I am looking for a new headset for fairly cheap around the $100 range, any recommendations? Currently looking at the Steelseries Siberia V2 or the Razer Carachias, and reviews or experiences with those?

I have the Razer Carachias headset and I love it. It is very comfortable, even after wearing it for a long time. The sound is really good too.

I got the Zalman mic, I can say that it isn't that great. Unfortunately, it just hangs under your chin, and unless you want to talk with your chin down, you won't get much volume out of it.

My overall stance on game headsets are that they are gimmicky and the guality isn't as great as getting a seperate hadset and microphone.

If you want to go cheap, just get a cheap plantronics. But if you want something more, don't go for gaming headsets, instead, invest towards seperate dedicated headsets and microphones.

i got a pair of sinhieser 360s that i really love because it has a open acoustics design (basically can hear stuff in the room and not feel like ya are under water hehe) and i think it has a great mic with a boom. however it's about twice the price range you're looking for and requires a good sound card.

+1 on the PC 360s. I bought those around Xmas last year and they have been great.

And +1 on the fact that most gaming headsets are crap. Regular headphones plus a mic is where you get the most value for your money. Basically if you plan to spend reasonable money on a headset then I'd steer clear from anything Razer, turtle beach, etc. and buy from an established headphone brand like Senn or audio technica, etc.

You can also look into getting the mod mic as an alternative to a zalman clip mic. I have not used one but it looks like a better option to me.
