Headsets

I have AXPro's and the mic is flat out broken. I plan on doing this replacement thing, but it sucks that the shipping is gonna cost me a ton.

Just picked up my new pair yesterday.

It's funny how the guy on the phone said that the upgraded version makes "Huge improvements" and that I'll really "Like them a lot more". When the only 2 things added/changed are that there is now a headset cord break away and the input holes are more fine tuned for the X360.

-----

In my experience, there is about a 10-15 hour burn in period, till you can hear MW2 footsteps to their fullest. You'll also want to rock Nina Pro, so you can better hear enemy footsteps,
woohoo!!! My local best buy finally has them in stock. Gonna try and pick them up tonight after class...
ARG!! They lied, they don't have them in stock in store. I will keep checking though.

I keep bring this topic back from the dead.

The Tritton AXPROs should be coming in early tomorrow for me. I can't wait to try them out.

Would you recommend spending the extra money to pickup the AX Pros? Right now I'm looking at the 720's because the price is not too bad, and I like that there really is only 1 cable to worry about. Do the Pros still need two power adapters?

Also I've tried looking up information on the AX900s but can't find anything, do you know when they will come out or any pricing rumors?

Looking at the cable length on the AX Pro...it says 12.5'. If I want longer, all I need is a longer USB cable and a longer optical cable - is that correct? That is how I interpret this in the online user manual.

Want to know that before I order one...thanks!

One question though. How close is your power outlet to your PS3?

Amazon = $150

Costco = $150

You are gonna need a special USB cable for the Trittons, just as a heads up so you do not buy a normal USB-USB cable.

A special cable - how so? If it plugs into the USB port on the PS3, shouldn't my extension cable for that work (USB female-to-male extension)? I'm not going to replace it, just lengthen it.

You cannot quote me on that one....I fear the knife or headshot. You can just fear me taking everyone on our team out in CTF. ;)

I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something else.

I will take some better pictures when I get home. I will mess around with some editing, to show you the cables better.

That's okay...mine just arrived from Amazon. Hydrocodone + Valium = feeling too good to look for my longer cables to hook it up right ATM....hopefully I'll have it up and running tonight. This should definitely help when I have to play upstairs (much better than tv ouptput).

Do not be discouraged if these do not live up to your expectations, at first.

They have about a 15 hour burn-in period.

Review of how to setup the Tritton AX PRO's, along with a check list to set it up.

 1. You plug the optical cable into both the PS3 & the hub?
 2. You connect the USB cable to both the PS3 & the hub?
 3. You have the headset plugged into the hub? ;)
 4. You go into the PS3 Settings > Accessory Settings . Audio Device Settings, and set both the input and output to "C-Media USB Audio Device."
 5. You make sure to change the audio outputs to be optical out / Dolby 5.1 / PCM 44.1 (Make sure DTS is unchecked, as this will disable output of some games).
Test connections by powering on the PS3 & the Hub, watch to ensure "Dolby Digital" light on the hub illuminates.

Last of all, MAKE SURE THE PROTECTIVE CAPS ON THE ENDS OF THE OPTICAL CABLES ARE REMOVED. That is what got me when setting it up.

To turn off the dongle by itself, you just have to hold the "FRONT" & "MUTE" button in at the same time.

 • The DRC (Dynamic Range Control) option is to make movies had a more balanced volume level. As in it tones down the action parts, and amplifies the love/dialogue moments. I find that it is best turned off for gaming.

 • The PL (Dobly Pro Logic) converts 2 channel audio into 5.1. They recommend this for listening to music, but I have not personally tested it.
-----

To setup the recommended time delay.

 1. Slide the switch (on the hub) to the "TD/DRC" side.
 2. Slide the "TIME DELAY" switch to the "SUR" side
 3. Push the volume/TD+ about 15 times.
 4. Slide the "TIME DELAY" switch to the other side ("CTR")
 5. Push the volume/TD- about 15 times.

Max the volume on the Hub, so all you have to control the volume with, is the dongle.

 1. Slide the switch (on the hub) to the "VOL/PL" side.
 2. Slide the "TIME DELAY" switch to either side.
 3. Push the "VOL/TD+" about 15 times.
 4. Repeat 2-3, but with the other side selected.
-----

That should get you setup. Now just get it burned in, through about 15-20 hours of play time.

For Modern Warfare 2, I recommend clicking the Sub channel down 1-2. Since the bass is a little bit overwhelming at first.

The problem is that I never get the Dolby Digital or Pro Logic light lit on the controller unit. To ensure that nothing was wrong with the optical cable, I hooked it up to my receiver and got sound.

Based on the fact that the mic works and that runs through the controller unit, I have to think the digital processor - or something working with it - it not functioning in it. The headphones work fine in analog mode on my PC.

At this point, it is wait until Monday to talk to them. All I want them to do is to send me another control unit - that would be far cheaper than an entire new setup.

I'm currently debating between the Tritton Universal Gaming headset (ax180's) $75 or the Tritton AX PRO's $180. Do you think the the 5.1 surround is worth the extra $100?

I just saw this thread and it appears you've chosen the Tritons. If not, check out the turtle beaches. I traded for their X2's which are last gen and use them on my 360. They're awesome, lightweght, and wireless so i imagine that the X3's, and X4's are good plus cheaper than the trittonns.

On the phone with Tritton...they are going to replace the unit...I think...I hate having to send the whole thing in when I know it is only the control unit.

So I started looking around for some nice headphones, and I've been looking at the Tritton 720s, but a lot of reviews have said that the bass is poor. What are my other options if this is my criteria:
 • Must be usable with both the PS3 and 360. I don't mind getting extra adapters or what not
 • Must have a microphone to voice chat
 • I would also like to watch blu-rays with the headphones. Anything that works with the PS3 will work with watching movies on it as well, right?
So basically, are there any other headphones that are compatible with both the PS3 and 360?

The Tritton AX Pro will work on both system along with Blue-ray movies plus it's surround sound so I think it would be worth saving an extra $40 and get the Pro's. I don't like all the cables required but it's something I will get over.

I'm debating between Tritton AX Pro's $180 and the Tritton AX 180's and the Turtle Beach PX21's around $80 each. I'm afraid of buyers remorse if I go with the cheaper set so I'm leaning more and more towards the Pro's

Just as a warning, the PRO's were made mainly for situational awareness (in games such as MW2). So do not expect the greatest while listening to music, or watching movies.

Sharkoon Xtatic 5.1 Headset on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Sharkoon-x-ta...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1271774609&sr=8-1

Its better than any of the headsets you mentioned by a long shot. I have them and they work flawlessly with my PS3. Sound is crisp and clear, bass needs to be upped more in the settings, and mic is ultra clear and can tune out the volume of other gamers without tuning down game sound. The only cons are a somewhat flimsy build and a really cheap compononent which connects the mic to the headset. This is offset by true 5.1 digital sound and comes with a sound unit that rivals (read: exceeds) the quality of the a40s.

Have you tried any of the others? I am not saying they are not better, but unless you have used the others, I am not sure that your statement is not just an opinion.

Regardless, I am about done with Tritton...this is getting ridiculous. I should have returned my DOA product to Amazon. What a complete waste. I cannot recommend the product just based on my experience and the lack of any update on my RMA status. I don't care if they are in the process of moving, you don't suddenly close down completely for 3 weeks. They got my DOA pair on either 3/31 or 4/1 and have known since then. All that I've heard is "it will ship out on Monday." Buyer beware.

Let me add more info now - just informed by Tritton that they will not get any more in-stock until the 2nd week of May. So, I order a headset and MAY have a working one 2 months later...if I am lucky.
