With the demo now out for Heavenly Sword I thought I'd search around for the best pre-order price. Here's what I came up with...

Heavenly Sword for $49.97 at FamilyVideo.com

Use Coupon Code NEWPGMEM to take $5 off for new members (code is verified as working) or Coupon Code NEWMEM3F to take $3 off for return customers (I have not personally tried this code yet, but it should work).

Shipping is $0.99.

New members total is $45.96 shipped...return customers would be $47.96 shipped.

Amazon.com doesn't have a price yet, but judging by the fact that Assasin's Creed is $59.99 I'd expect it to be around the same price. I also checked LionGames and didn't see anything on Tony's site yet either so if you really feel like getting ahead of the game this seems like the way to go.

I called and 20 minutes later, I was still on hold so I left a message as well as cancelled via email.

Had they just handled it differently, like keeping us in the loop, the anger would be lessened. But there is simply no excuse to take pre-orders as early as they did and not have enough stock to satisfy them. Completely unacceptable.
By the way - for the benefit of those who may have been displeased with the situation/want to cancel - unhappy with the responses they are getting.

I found this number on their site: 1-888-332-6843
http://www.familyvideo.com/contact.php

Called it - and granted, I had to sit on hold for a bit, but had a reasonably straight forward conversation with a rep who only wanted my order number. Was off the phone in 5 min. Couple hours later, this turns up in my email

"Per your request, we have sent a request to our shipping department to cancel
your title(s). This message is not a confirmation. You will be receiving a confirmation shortly."

It's not the THUNDERING cancellation I'd hoped for, but they're woking with me, so it's all good.

(I post this on the off-chance that others may be trying to cancel, and may have more satisfying results by calling rather then email.)
As much as I like Family Video for their prices (and prices alone), I am a little disappointed in how quickly they're getting my copy out to me. I placed my order over a month ago (August 12), and it's still just in fulfillment.

Oh well. Must remind myself I AM saving almost $20 over buying it in a store. $45.98 vs $64 in the store.

Family Video's service reps are definetly not that bad and are pretty friendly. It's the way the company does things that's bad.
I just got it today, thanks Tony! Here's the proof below! I preordered a day before shipped next day! I'll buy from them again!!!
Congrats on getting your copy. I am quite sad that I ordered it Aug. 8th and still am waiting in fullfillment limbo, I wish it was easier to cancel an order, I would just cancel and reorder since new orders seem to have no trouble. As it stands I can't even get an e-mail response (at least not for my order) or a phone response.
Wouldn't begin to question you there, but it also wouldn't surprise me if the dsitributors aren't doing all they could. Do they overnight? It didn't sound like you thought much of their efforts, considering you've already said that it's getting to your customers faster if they ship to you and you ship to them. Maybe the solution isn't necessarily for the publishers to ship sooner - so much as for the distributors to ship faster.

Although at least in the case of FV, I really don't think this is about a 2-3 delay caused by a delay from the distributors - I think it's more likely that they're either incompetent - or word got out that they had a good price on Heavenly Sword and they weren't properly prepared for it. (They got slammed). In either case, I shan't be doing business with them again. It isn't that I'm unsympathetic to a couple days delay or if even the "sky is falling" to get a game a little later then most, but we're not talking about 2-3 day delay, we're talking about a month after ship date. I simply can't justify waiting that long for the savings, considering I could go down to the mall on lunch break and pick it up myself.
We can ship ups and it is pretty quick one to day days to most customers but most customers dont want to pay for ups. I try to offer a decent shipping way for a decent price.

I have a sinking feeling that all the ones not shipped were coupons people used so they make less money on those orders. where as without the coupons they might make a few dollars on it. Its a poor way to do business but I understand it.

This is the latest and greatest. Got this in the afternoon. I think some of you will receive this as well.

At this point, I'm more disappointed than mad. I was really hoping this place would be a place for me to order from, but if there's something I can't stand is inconsistent business practices. That and they don't reply to a single corresponence I've sent. I should've just ordered from Tony. At least he seems to be responsive and doesn't keep people in the dark.

This whole situation is quite odd. I preordered Ninja Gaiden Sigma from them long before the release date, yet it shipped out right away. But then I do the same thing with Heavenly Sword, and it has yet to ship and FV won't respond to my emails...

I've also yet to even receive an email notice about it backordered...

look like im going to have to cancel. It's a shame. I rather get the game now than to wait a month. Ill just head to best buy during my break and get the game.

If I buy this game at Wal-Mart, cant I just return the FV copy to the Wal-Mart store? Does FV put any stickers on the case and plastic?

Nope, you shouldn't have any problems, as long as FV gets your copy to you before Wal-mart's return window expires.

Thats a big if!
Just canceled my order. I really wanted the game for this price, but 2 weeks plus the 5-10 day shipping is a big no no for me.
did you cancel by e-mail or by phone? I don't seem to have much luck with getting through to them by e-mail, but I don't have time to wait on hold while at work either.

Just call them on the phone... they should pick up and help you right away.

Here's the latest news on in this saga, FV called me this morning a very nice guy the distribution center that my order was sent never got any copies the guy told me. Buit today they got more and are shipping my copy today 100% sure. I'm glad I kept my order and feel Family Video gave me some great service. Even going so far as giving me an extra 5 $ off coupon. I feel much better now and should have the game by the end of the week. Not bad at all now I will order some more from them.

I got two emails from FV. One when they shipped Lair (I ordered it at the same time I ordered Heavenly Sword, two days before release) and the next day when they shipped Heavenly Sword. Hopefully I'll get it by Friday?

Just sounds like they have either issues with thier distributor or thier P.O.S. system (or both) if people who ordered it months ago are still waiting for shipping confirmation or are on backorder.

I e-mailed them as suggested here, but that was a few days ago with no response. They must be ignoring them after getting too many cancel requests.

I played patient. Today, I decided to email them AND I'm currently on hold waiting for an answer. To be in fulfillment STILL is not acceptable.

Yeah, they were pretty prompt with their responses up to the scheduled release date, but now they're not responding at all.

I just called and after waiting through only 2 songs for their on hold music I spoke to a person. She told me they ran out of stock but had more in stock but wouldn't be shipping for 2 weeks, which doesn't really make sense, so I just cancelled the order instead. On the plus side the phone rep was very nice.

Just out of curiousity, has anyone who cancelled attempted to re-order the game from their website now? It is still listed as in stock and shipping within one day.

I spoke with the Manager of the Family Video store. He explained to me that one of the shipping centers they utilize did not get the full stock from Sony. However, that center received their shipment today, and ALL orders would go out tomorrow morning. He apologize profusely.

I was actually pleasantly surprised with the customer service.

He also explained that "In Fulfillment" would be changed to "Shipped" tomorrow but that in fact all orders were going out today.

The reason some orders were filled before orders has to do, not with time of order, but rather the location of the supplier.

I hope that's true because the rep I called about 15min ago said they were back-ordered 2-3 weeks for that title.

Edit: added time reference

I stand corrected...I just got home from work and they were both in my mailbox in 2 different packages.:bouncy: Stay strong, they're on the way!!!

Screw Family Video. I just did a product search on EB's site for a used copy, and found one at the store I usually go to. After my Edge discount & that 10% off coupon that's floating around, I'll be out $49 after tax. I'll spend the extra $3 to have the game in my hands already. :)

Wow, the saga continues. So basically, after no answers to emails and a phone call, I actually speak to a rep this morning and call to cancel this pre-order. Almost immediately, I get an email saying that the request for cancellation has been filed and I should be receiving a confirmation shortly.

Well, I just got an email from them saying it's too late to cancel because my order supposedly shipped. Status still hasn't changed in my order status, but I guess we'll see. I still want the game, but I don't even trust that it actually has shipped. They could just be keeping my money hostage until I receive it a month from now then I have to ship it back for a refund.

I better get this game soon...by Monday would be nice.

I'm debating whether to hold my Halo 3 preorder with them. I expect the shipments of Halo 3 could have more shortages than Heavenly Sword, easily. Still, it's hard to pass on a $48 for a Halo game at launch. I still haven't beat Halo 2 (yeah, I know, no excuse) so I might power through that while Halo 3 is "in fullfilment."

Lol, this is priceless. I went & picked up the used copy of HS at EB, and was told that the manager of the store is the one who traded it in. He just got back from some big EB/GS convention in Vegas, and they gave him several games while he was there - this being one of them. He doesn't own a PS3, so he traded it in. So I got a brand-new copy of the game locally for practically the same amount Family Video was charging - and I have it now.

Mine shipped out on Friday, but I still haven't got it yet. I paid for the better shipping option. I ordered a while ago though. No biggy overall though I got Eternal Sonata to hold me over for awhile.

My order was shipped on Saturday and I still hadn't received it today (was expecting it). I had left work a little early. I was so pissed that it didn't come today that I decided I had to go pick it up.

Toys R' Us - Buy 2 Get 1 to the rescue. I picked up BioShock, HS, and Gears for $120. I'll write return to sender on my package and send it back to them. Seriously FV, fuck you.

I just got an email from FV saying my order has shipped. Hopefully its here by Saturday, with it shipping from IL to NY I dont see why it cant make it in 4 days.

After cancelling my order yesterday and picking up a copy I got a message today saying it has shipped too. Oh well I guess I will still be getting this for a nice low price.

I bet a lot of folks who thought they cancelled are going to be getting it shipped from FV. Glad I just waited. Mine shipped yesterday.

Same here... after sending a cancellation e-mail on Monday, now the game is shipped. Kinda sucks with the TRU B2G1 free deal going around....

Same here. Order was shown as cancelled online yesterday but now shows up as shipped.

yeah same thing happened to me. I called and the lady said that because the orders were pre-booked I would have had to cancel earlier. I got an e-mail confirming my cancellation on the 10th. That's just bullshit. They could have at least mentioned that in the e-mail instead of ninja shipping the game to me. fuck family video. After the persona incident and now this, they just aren't worth my time.

Edit: I also noticed that I was charged for the game minus the coupon i used which showed up on the invoice and they shipped it to the wrong address. I sent an e-mail earlier in the month to change shipping addresses. This is just too many fuck ups in two orders. Hopefully you guys are having better luck.

I also pre-ordered the game 7/26/07. Wow even though i pre-ordered the game way early it still took a week for them to ship it out.

I ordered it on 7/27/07. Canceled on 9/10/07. And it just shipped today.

I called the lady, she said that its going to be at my house today, all I have to do is refuse the order or return to sender. This is grade-a BULLSHIT.

This is the last time I preorder from Family Video, no matter how good the price is.

Hah. I canceled mine yesterday, and went to TRU for the B2G1 deal. Played some last night, and then, as EXPECTED, FV shipped out my copy today. Definitely not pleased.

Not sure why everyone was in a rush to go buy this game considering how short it reportedly is. Also a bit unfair to slam these guys with cancelations soon after the release date when they obviously had a distribution problem and were already in some measure of action in trying to get all the orders out. Not saying that FV is blameless in the mess--they clearly have problems with per order communication and pre-order processing loop--but to go off in a panic with the game barely out a week is too much.

It wouldn't have been so bad if they hadn't told me yesterday that it wouldn't ship for 2 weeks only to have it ship today. I don't mind waiting a week due to a distribution error but 3 weeks total was a bit much. If they told me that it would ship today when I spoke to them I wouldn't have bothered trying to cancel. Not that it really matters since I will be getting it from them now anyway since it is easier to return a copy to Toys R Us than to have this one sent back.

Mine shipped today too.

Luckily I've got BioShock to keep me busy so the fact that this shipped a little late doesn't really bother me (although I was hoping to play it before Halo 3 comes out next week).

If I didn't have a 360, I'd have been a little miffed about the whole thing, but hey...I saved $15 by getting it from FamilyVideo so it's all good...assuming the game actually shows up in my mailbox.
