Hell's Kitchen

Rofl, I agree re: Lisa, myke.

She does that whole arrogant shrugged shoulders half crooked smile eyes-almost-closed shit, which always makes me want to punch the offender.

You ever had one of those malted drinks Richard was talking about? I want to go hunt one down, assuming it actually has a caramel flavor.

I think it's clear that Richard and Stephanie are the front runners, and barring some obscene amount of choking (see Casey from last season), it'll be down to them. I think Richard has the edge given he's one of these new age hippie cooks that likes to boil shit in bags (and the judges apparently love that....tapioca balls + wasabi + celery root + white chocolate? fuck the hell off), but I think Steph adapts better and probably puts more soul into her food.

Lisa is clearly the Matt of Top Chef, replacing Spike since his smarmy ass was sent packin' last week.
You ever had one of those malted drinks Richard was talking about? I want to go hunt one down, assuming it actually has a caramel flavor.
Nope. Kinda sounds like it would taste like a Newcastle, IMO.

I like both Richard and Stephanie. I thought Richard was overly pretentious at first, but the show does a good job at giving his recipes reasons for existing. They are unique and sometimes over the top, but he clearly isn't just doing things to be a pretentious asshole (like makin' a fuckin' cyber-egg or somesuch nonsense) - his mind seems to genuinely move in directions that are grounded in reason, not so much the "I'm gonna knock your socks off with jicama and carmex with a skittles burre blanc" variety.

I don't just want to see Lisa lose, though. I want to see her eaten by a shark. She's better than Matt, but any motherucker that tries to deflect every bit of criticism the way she has is just classless - and it's also evident that each episode is based on the last challenge alone, as there's no way she would have survived if cumulative times on the bottom of the barrel count. She's just lucky because on 5 or more occasions, someone has done worse than her.

I agree about Richard, I'm just saying those combinations are just waaaaaay out there. Maybe I'm just jealous. Eh. I don't think I have great taste when it comes to food - for example, I can't stand licorice, and apparently there's at least 4-5 major ingredients that taste just like it that I see all over the place (fennel, saffron, anise, etc).

At least he sticks to his (wild) guns instead of trying to make shit up on the spot that never works out, which is Achilles' Heel #1 on the show.

The judges have said in the past they tend to only rely on what happens in the elimination round of that day for decisions, and thus not cumulative. Which...makes some amount of sense, in the same way a game reviewer grading Mass Effect after being forced to play it 10 hours 5 days in a row does.

fucking Lisa survived yet ANOTHER episode of Top Chef. The look on her face each and every time she's on the shopping block (which seems like it's every fuckin' episode) makes me want to jump through the tv screen and beat her with a cinder block. Smug fuckin' shitty-ass cook.
All right, other people watch Top Chef! I can't fken believe Lisa survived also, and I think it has been every episode she's been at the bottom barely squeaking by. Oh yea, and at the end after they say bye to Antonia, Lisa has the balls (cuz she's butch yo) to demand a congratulations from Stephanie and Richard, I was like wtf?!?

It was funny what Richard says though, "What was that all about, what am I supposed to say, 'congratulations, you won the bronze medal?' "
(cuz she's butch yo)
Nah, I'll give her credit for not flaunting the diesel dyke to the degree she could.

But that shit (the "don't I get a congratulations?")made her the biggest heel I've seen on TV in years. And I watch a lot of pro wrestling. I want to see her get beat with a fuckin' Buick for that kind of arrogance.

EDIT: This weeks' poll also had 91% of the voters thinking that Lisa should go off the show, while the other 3 divvied up the remaining 9%. Heh.

That was a total bitch move, yeah. Worse than Spike's little "THE SCALLOPS WERE IN YOUR WALK, PISSHEAD" comment from last week.

Richard's retort was fuckin' phenomenal though. I wish he could have said that straight to her face right then and there, but maybe he just hadn't thought it up at the time.

Haha, at least Spike realized he was an idiot for saying that and went up to the guy and made peace, Lisa is just as hard-headed as a rock.

When Richard said that I wanted to give him a high-five, that was just awesome.

Eh, I said that because my Mom keeps calling her that  plus she really looks the part.

I have no idea why the Judges keep her around, and I have no clue why they don't consider their track record in the competition.

Antonia has been doing very well so far and she gets booted for one blunder really, undercooking a part of one dish.

Meanwhile, Lisa has been skidding along the edge with one bad dish and performance after another and they still allow her to stay while she bellows out the same "You won't be dissapointed" phrase over and over again.

From near the beginning up until now, I still think Dale and Antonia should've been in the finale because they both were pretty talented and knew what they were doing.
I haven't caught the last couple, what did LouRoss do that got him sent home before Matt?
He doesn't know how to cook filet mignon. Ultra fail.

The lisa thing does baffle me. If her food doesn't suck, then the seasoning/flavor is always off and she has been in the bottom over 50% of the time. IIRC, the judges mentioned it in the week spike was booted and I think she had been in the bottom 8 x before that episode and now we would add another 2 x. I loved when Richard said congrats you got the bronze metal.

While it would have been nice to see Antonia in the finals, you can't undercook something. While she was talking about how her heart was in it, and she wanted to win. I call BS, she was doing a lot of talking about her restaurant and its opening. Maybe going home for a couple weeks didn't help her to remain focus.

My money is on Stephanie winning. IMO richard started off wowing people with his techniques, but he moved away from that. He also on several occassions served seafood that wasn't properly cleaned/washed.

Finally Matt is gone. What a huge man baby he was. I'm hoping Jen is next. And for some reason, I'm entranced by Corey. She's not particularly hot but there's just something about her. I think it's her eyes .. and bitchiness.

I don't think the whole drama angle of this show could be any more glaringly pronounced than it is right this very second.

I watched last week's episode on hulu due to boredom. Holy shit, not only was Matt a manbaby, he was fucking insane! Who got knocked off this week? EDIT: Checked who. Kinda surprised.
The bigger surprise is who did not get kicked off.
Probably to add drama to the show

Well Series Finale to Top Chef is tomorrow, don't really matter who wins to me, as long as it ain't Lisa >.>

I'll be pulling just a bit for Richard, but they both deserve it IMO. If Antonia was still in and Lisa was out this would make the final challenge a lot more interesting, but we all know Lisa will end up at the bottom again ;)

The show this year is meh. Everyone hates each other so it's not like there is any emotions other than anger going around. And everyone smokes... gross.

But, I had a dream where I was on the show and me and Petrosa were partners. I made this sweet pizza with feta cheese and olive oil with some spinach. And ramsy hated it because the cheese was folded or something.

That pizza was delicious!

Then you don't understand why the show is so arbitrary, man. His restaurant is fucked beyond fucked if they don't protect it from the winner of this show.

^ seconded. Every time she's at the judges table she just stands there with her arms across her chest with such a nasty attitude, silly lesbian! It'll be nice to see real adult chefs after watching Hell's Kitchen.

What do Hell Kitchens winners actually get anyway? a 1 year contract to be a line cook Supervisor? I just can't imagine any of them (except for Rock, he actually seemed like a responsible person) being trusted with any level of power higher than that.

Rock was actually and executive chef at a restaurant here in DC. (I work a few blocks from the place) But I agree, the cast this year seems completely incompetent. Is it just me or did the prior seasons chefs seem to have their stuff together by this time in the show?

Exactly how I feel about it. I like both Richard and Stephanie (though I'd probably want to see Richard win), but Lisa? fuck no. Not even close.

Got it on Steph too, though Richard always impresses me.

I want to see a top chef champions cook off with Tom Colicchio involved. For the past 2 seasons I've always been curious to see how he would do with a quick fire challenge.
I swear, if Lisa wins this, the show has lost basically all credibility.
was thinking the same thing.

btw anyone else abit dissappointed about the finale? Last year setup was so much better. Instead of the final challenge the last 2 chefs got to cook whatever they wanted. This years finale felt like just another episode. Abit underwelhmed.

Man, why did Richard say that?!? Ehh, I'm pretty sure it's because he wasn't satisfied with what he served enough to say it out loud :/

Wtf with Lisa all of a sudden being a great chef?!? She better not win dammit...

I was hella nervous that Lisa would win, because she's a bitch.

Really, I just wanted to see her lose in the end. The other two chefs were great.

I didn't watch past seasons, though, and I'm wondering if Tom Colicchio ever did anything interesting... guy seems like he doesn't have a personality and I'm not even sure what his claim to fame is.

No way, I love him. His condescending smarm, that "you're really sure of yourself, aren't you" smirk that is just dripping with doubt and amusement - he's like a bald, bloated, culinarily inclined *ME*.

*swoon*

That said, the Top Chef finale was a pretty anticlimactic show. About the only kick I got out of the past two episodes was seeing the viewer votes that clearly show that most of the people who watch the show universally loathed Lisa.

Heh.

Congrats to Stephanie, she deserves it ;)
Richard was bummed the fuck out, but he probably knew he came short, at least he won the car :/

I would love to see the chefs go head to head with Tom.

I agree with you 100%. It was what... 4% that thought Lisa should win tonight? A good laugh was had by all.

That'd be an interesting show, actually... or at least a good quickfire challenge. But yeah, I guess my issue with Monsieur Colicchio is that he doesn't have much of a role in the show... he shows up and bothers the chefs while they're cooking, eats their food like he's entitled to it, and then gives the finger to somebody at the end of the show. I dunno, I guess I just like how Chef Ramsay is so involved in Hell's Kitchen.

Kitchen Nightmares (BBC version especially) is better than both shows though, IMO

BBC Kitchen Nightmares is okay, FOX Kitchen Nightmares is atrocious.

BBC Kitchen Nightmares >> Hell's Kitchen >>>>>> FOX Kitchen Nightmares

Throwdown with Bobby Flay and Iron Chef America are my two favorite food shows.

i like how this is the reality cooking show thread now

i cant believe bobby got the boot this week over jen. 3 girls and 1 guy left, petrozza is my dark horse, he doesnt do great but he never does so bad that hes on the block.

I'd like to see Colicchio do something. I bet he's like a hardcore samurai chef - probably does flips and shit in the kitchen, cuts veggies up in the air with great flashes of light as they fall down perfectly stacked onto the plate, etc.

Padme probably just claps her hands and then pushes the start button on the microwave. She's an ethnic Rachel Ray as far as I can tell for the time being.

The finale was definitely anti-climactic. I seem to remember previous seasons having it set up in a "cook whatever you want" way - they could go buy the ingredients and such? Or at the very least they got to have more freedom than this time around.

I'm pretty sure in Season 1 that they had to make many more dishes. I know the girl (that lost) in the finale made 2 dishes per course...come to think of it, she was kind of universally loathed in the way Lisa is.

Kind of a weak season (ing! ho ho ho!) overall. Richard is a visionary toys dude and Steph has heart. But each group of chefs seems weaker than the one before it. I also noticed this was the quickest season - no missed weeks as far as I can tell, and the reunion show is coming on after the finale, along with no live revealing of the winner. I can't tell if this is Bravo's way of trying to cut down on popularity or if the writer's strike might have affected it.

Oh well. Hell's Kitchen ahoy for a few more weeks.

Colicchio's actually fairly hardcore, I think. He's got restaurants in 5 or 6 states, I think and at least one of them in New York was highly regarded.
Padma's basically only written a cookbook, far as I can tell. And I suppose that's all that matters. She's also ridiculously gorgeous, especially for 38.

Anyway, I didn't even realise tonight's TC was the finale. It just felt so rushed. It was like they ran out of time and had to rush the progression. At least next week is the Reunion episode where they all cook against each other again. That might be fun. I have to admit, like others have said, this season's crop of chefs seem to pale in comparison to the previous seasons'. No one was really interesting and most of the people seemed to be either a gimmick or a douche. Sad. Hopefully next season's contestants will be better.

And Hell's Kitchen. Damn. Jen survives again..she's like a cockroach. At leat Matt was booted last week. Jen seems to have fate on her side or something. If she wins somehow, I'm never watching again. And I give up.

You should check out the original Iron Chef. Iron Chef America can't hold a candle to it.
