Help a fellow gamer walk again.

That's me and my best friend, Travis. (He's the one on the left.) He's a gamer, just like you and I. Yes, we're both creepy-looking and I apparently have demon eyes. :p

A few years back, Travis was involved in a horrific accident, falling about 50 feet off a cliff and into a waterfall. Luckily, his cell phone worked even though it had been completely submerged in the water, and he was able to call for help. However, he paid quite a price --- He is now paralyzed from the waist down after his legs were crushed by the fall.

Just recently, Travis found a hospital in China that has created a special type of surgery specifically for this kind of condition. Since the accident is still recent enough, this surgery has a good chance of reversing its effects and allowing Travis to be able to walk again after the recovery process. Nothing would make both my friend and me happier than to see this happen. But things like this don't come cheap --- The entire ordeal will cost upwards of about $20,000-25,000. Not a small number, I'm afraid.

I have created a beneficiary fund at a local credit union (University Credit Union in Utah) in order to raise money to help Travis travel to China and get this surgery. I am begging all of you, if it wouldn't be too much trouble, to donate some money to this fund. I'm not asking you to break the bank and give me your life savings or anything --- Even a few dollars would be an immense help if everyone donated.

I know I don't know any of you on here personally, nor have I ever made a post before this one, and I know this is kinda random to all of a sudden be asking you for money. But as you've read, it's for a very good cause, and I want to do whatever I can for my friend before time beats us and nothing can be done at all. I promise all of you, this isn't some kind of a Norwegian scam or anything --- I would never take advantage of another human being like that.

If you're willing to donate any money, please send a PayPal payment to [email protected].

Thank you all again for being here and reading this message. Please, don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions at all.

---Peter

Was this the same person from the incident that was posted a long while ago that had a youtube video of a guy jumping off a cliff (with a waterfall) into a lake but royally screwing his landing?

Well, I am really sorry to hear that happened to your friend. However, just about any jackass on the internet could come with a story like this in hopes of making some quick money off of a sob story.

Not saying that this is what you are doing, but I highly doubt anybody will give you any money.

I also don't meant to be a downer, especially if this happens to be true and the ilk, but this being your first post...it would be cause for some alarm. I mean, if Cheapy or Wubb walked on over and posted this, that's one thing. Heck, I could post this and I would still get flak. ;)

But still, I am sorry for his loss but most people here are going to be highly reticent to donate money, I'd wager.

I'm not sure I'd be willing to travel to China for a surgery only offered there. I'm not implying that America is leading the world in medical creativity (or maybe we are, I dunno), but I think if I couldn't find someone to do it here, I would stay the hell away.

Trust me, it's a scam (the China thing, not necessarily this request). In China, there are lots of unscrupulous doctors and "health clinics" that claim to offer procedures not available in the West like stem cell infusions, "detoxifications" etc.. None of them are proven treatments and it'll just be a waste of time and money and just cause you and your friend heartache.

My sympathies for your friend.

@JolietJake

He was rock climbing on a mountain over here and the rocks gave way under his feet. He admits it's his own fault, and I agree with that statement, but I can't sit and watch him like that for the rest of his life.

@Kapwanil and darthbudge

I completely understand your concern. Even I think it looks suspicious, but I figured what the hell. I was actually referred here by a friend of mine on Destructoid.com, but I figured it wouldn't be a good idea since I'm not active here very often at all. I'll probably just hide the post on this website after a while, but I want to leave it here for a bit more so you guys get a chance to read this response.

@Magehart

No, that was someone different. Travis' video was never on YouTube at all. All the news reports were just commentary, anyway.

@Ender

I thought the same thing, but I guess when you're in that position you'd be willing to try anything.

@dopa345

Ooh, I actually never thought of that before... That's something I should run by him for consideration.

Thanks for your concern, I really appreciate it.

You should post the video on youtube and ask for money there. Having a tragic video is easier to get sympathy $ than a few words scribbled down.

Dopa345 is a medical professional, so I would definitely listen to his advice. I feel really bad for your friend but I seriously doubt the China thing is legit.
