Last night I was opening my gold DS and playing it for the 1st time...then 15 minutes or so accident happened and water spilled all over it. The screen became black within 5 minutes or so and I called the big N, opened the battery lid and now its drying..but Im pretty sure its toast >.> I called again and they said it would cost $60 to fix it and chances they will have to send me a normal color instead :K Is there anyway to get it repair for less..? >.> I dont want a normal DSL..

Its a day and a half now..the water got in it pretty good and when I turned it A LOT came out..when I try to turn it on the light go on for 1 second and flicks off. I made about 15-20 tries and they all said the same thing so I'll be spending the $ to get it repair then >.>

You could just try taking it back and say it was a defect. If they believe you, you should get it exchanged. I am gonna second what arfin said about letting the DS dry, you should try that first.
I bought it at Target...but dont they have a rule of no return if the product is opened?
pretty sure that's only software, music, and movies

Keep in mind that it probably has a strip or something inside it that indicated it was dunked in water. I'm guessing accidental spills must void the N warranty. But N does have some of the best customer service out there. It might be worth a shot to call a couple times, talk to a few differnet people, and see if somebody won't help you out. I mean having it break within a couple days of purchase is pretty rough.

Does Target actually check to see how a returned DS was broken? I have no idea.

I'm surprised they don't have any limited systems for warranties/repairs, that would suck.

Also, IF YOU EVER GET AN ELECTRONIC ITEM WET, NEVER EVER EVER TURN IT ON UNTIL IT IS DRY

Also, put it somewhere warm, so it can actually dry. Leave it alone for a day or two.

Absolutely right on trying to call a few more times. My DS Lite recently had the whole 'right hinge completely cracks off' issue that some others have had in the past, and although my Lite was already out of warranty they took it in and repaired it free of charge (since my main argument was that it was because of the faulty build and the cracking they're known for, and since Nintendo themselves said to not send it in since it was 'purely cosmetic' it would be silly to fault me for waiting so long in sending it in).

And yea, I doubt Target would get too anal about looking over the DS, so that's a viable option as well, especially if you're wanting to make sure you get another special edition.

Target do check it I think, my dad have returned a few eletronics there and they did on those. Adding to that is the chances they have some gold ones left is tiny. I called Nintendo about 10 more times..no luck, they still say $50 to fix it. So thats over 25 times of calls...
I do think there is something that lets N know if it damaged by liquid as some people who faked it as N's fault to get a free repair got charged with the repair cost when they founded the system damaged by liquid. I just shelled out $50 to get it to fix >.> It better be a gold one when it comes back and not be a normal color or I'll me mad wasting the money and all. :(

Ugh, mine's developing a hairline crack on the right hinge, starting on the side near the power switch and working it's way across the front of the base of the hinge. I've already had to replace a broken power switch. This is getting ridiculous.

Ah well, good decision to not lie about the water damage though. As you said they'd end up charging you once they found out the warranty was voided.
