Help, I haven't played my GC in months and need a new game!

The last games I bought were RE4 and POP:WW. I haven't really kept up on games too much recently. What great games have I missed since the beginning of the year?

Mario Superstar Baseball and X-Men Legends are the newest ones. Unfortunately I didn't get a GC until the end of last year, so I had a lot of catching up to do on older games. I'll have to check when I get home and see what's good that just got released this year.

Battalion Wars is supposed to be pretty good, as is Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance (which is coming out next week). I can't think of anything else... I think the DS releases have been distracting me from the Gamecube stuff :\

The GC is going to do a lot of dust collection this year... nothing outside of RE4 that's really worth going all out for.

Fire Emblem does look good though.:)

Btw, best deal for Fire Emblem is at Gamerush (if you have one). Trade in two games and preorder it for $30. You can use your credit to pay for it too. XBOX Dead to Rights 2 gets $27 and only costs $20 (-$5 GGC) at Best Buy.

The Cube this year has sucked more wind than any console I've seen since the Saturn's last year. Oh, and it only sucked so bad because Sega announced they were ceasing support. The Dreamcast fared better in its dying days than the Cube did this year.

I have never seen a console suck so bad in a full calendar year as the Cube has in 2005. Fire Emblem is, without a doubt, the lone high point left on the Cube lineup this year. It's mainstream appeal though is ZERO. That title is for fanboys only.

I can't believe anyone is still buying that console. Any game store workers care to comment on how much Cube hardware you've moved in the last 6-8 months since Resident Evil 4 came out?

What do you mean, only fanboys would like Fire Emblem? It should be a high-quality game. Anyway, the Gamecube is close to dead, but not quite as bad as you make it out to be. There are five remaining games that really interest me, Fire Emblem, Zelda, Kirby, Spartan: Total Warrior (not exclusive, but still), and Mario Strikers (I don't like the milking of Mario, but this actually looks fun), roughly in that order. Plus a handful of others that could possibly be good (Baten Kaitos II, Odama, etc.)

The PS2 has the best remaining lineup. XBox probably has the worst, but it's done much better than the Cube for most of the year and it's only weak because so many people are shifting to the 360. Still, even though it's the only console I own, I don't regret my Cube purchase at all - the Gamecube makes a great complement to my gaming PC.
Hmmm... Killer 7 is a blast if you're open-minded enough for it.
yep, and you can find it for $25:booty:

I agree that the cube hasn't had the best lineup this year but....it makes me wonder something. Does anyone buy 3rd party games like Hulk Ultimate Destruction or any other games for their cube? I mean I know the 3rd party numbers aren't as massive as the PS2 lineup or the XBOX lineup but games do come out on the system. I like the cube because it has such minimal load times and I usually buy a game if I can for my Gamecube before my PS2.

We all must remember that Nintendo is a company that focuses on innovation, creativity, and flat out gaming. They could care less if the system can go online or play movies. In my opinion, no one does first party games better than Nintendo. Metroid Prime 1 & 2...excellent!, Zelda Windwaker and Zelda Four Swords...excellent!. Paper Mario 2...Excellent!, Super Mario Sunshine.....Excellent!, Pikmin 1 & 2...Excellent. Just to name a few. I have so many first party and "only for Nintendo" games that I haven't even opened yet, because for one, the games are quality games with some length to them. In other words you get your money's worth.

Now as far as not being able to speak Pokemon, you don't need to. Neither does Nintendo.
Because to them, Pokemon translate to Cha-Ching!! Pokemon is Nintendo's Cash Cow! That series is there to keep their assets up.

Final thoughts: The Gamecube has some of the most entertaining titles on the market. I Love my Cube. Oh...did you ever experience connectivity with a GBA SP...Da' Bomb!!

I love my Gameube too, and I don't think its year is as bad as he makes it out to be (certainly better than the N64's last year!), but you're just being fanboyish. Mario Sunshine was nowhere near excellent, but connectivity was for the most part a stupid gimmick. It produced two good games: Pac-man Vs. and Four Sword Adventures (it's hard to get the equipment, but it's a damn fun game if you can!) However, other than those two games, there hasn't been a single useful implementation of connectivity.

BTW, Pokemon blows. I like Nintendo, but I wish it and Mario Party would die.

Too bad Metroid Prime 1&2 weren't first party games and neither were other Cube "greats" like Eternal Darkness, F-Zero, either Star Fox game, Wario World or Wave Race. They were either second parties or third parties licensed to develop Nintendo properties.

Nintendo hasn't put out a decent first party game since Zelda: TWW. If you want rehashed Mario shit in every sport known to man and an annual Mario Party update and consider it fantastic. God bless.

Just realize that subjectively many people will say your taste in games suck.

good point but i think he was trying to illustrate how Nintendo does have some great exclusives not so much 1st party...i believe their concentrating on the DS & Revolution now...besides what 1st party games has Microsoft and sony released latley that was ground breaking? (im asking because i dont know)
i think all 3 companies are focusing on next generation and portables

nice collection of games by the way...

The Metroid Primes are first party. Retro is part of Nintendo, just like Intelligent Systems. I also think Nintendo deserves a lot of the credit for F-Zero GX (I got the impression from an interview that it was very much a joint effort). By the same token though, I think they deserve a lot of the blame for Starfox's suckiness this gen and for Geist. BTW, Mario Party (which blows) and most of the other Mario spinoffs (some of which are good) are also second or third party.

two more games left till I sell my cube: Odama(the pinball strat game) and Zelda.

you're smoking crack. both those games are pretty awesome, even though they have a few poor design choices and are very similar to each other. then you go on to say that either Star Fox game is better? wow....

Just realize that subjectively many people will say your taste in games suck.

that sums it up.

Where did I say the Star Fox games were any good? I never played Assault just due to reviews and word of mouth. I did finish SFA which, while simple, looked incredible and I did enjoy it. Where did I say any of the others weren't very good? Your reading comprehension is severely lacking.

Warioworld was not a good game. Colorful yes, good, no. Metroid Primes were both overrated IMHO. I'm in the minority that just has not been able to get into the franchise despite owning both Primes and the first GBA game that came out with the first Prime. F-Zero was ridiculously difficult. Waverace? Meh, I loved the first one. Somehow 5 years later the second just did not impress or seem as fun to me. Eternal Darkness was good but there are other franchises that do the survival horror genre better, especially the Silent Hil and Fatal Frame series.

Sega made F-Zero, Nintendo had jack shit to do with it.

Still Nintendo is making the money while M$ and $ony aren't.

Few Cube games = easier on my pockebook. :)

Eternal Darkness, though, isn't really a survival-horror, per say; at least, not in the traditional RE mold. It's more of an action-adventure game that pulls more from the old "Sierra" style games than, say, Silent Hill. It's draw, I think, was more in its innovation in gameplay ideas (i.e. the sanity meter, the magick system) and it's plot (i.e. mulitiple characters across time told as chapters in a book) than it's control scheme (which was often unwieldy) and it's graphics (which were average). The game was a critical hit (if a retail disappointment) largely because it did something quite different and it came together in a compelling and satisfying way, even with it's flaws.

This is to "ShittsburghAfterDark"- It's obvious you are riding Bill Gates' Jock with your little logo. My taste in gaming goes far beyond Nintendo gaming. I was simply naming a few of their first party titles (thank you joeljermon for setting his ass straight...talk what you know)
I like good games period. Be it Nintendo, XBOX, or PS2.

And just so you know what time it is with me, I rate XBOX as the best system in terms of graphics and power. Gamecube being the second best in terms of graphics and power, but first in innovation, creativity, and flat out original gaming. The PS2 is a whore when it comes to flooding the market with games, but don't get me wrong, there are some awesome games for the system on the market. The success of the PS1, along with the Sony name is mainly the reason for the success for the PS2. "Emotion Engine" my ass.

P.S. That collection of yours ain't all that. You have some good titles surrounded by crap. And you have the nerve to comment on taste in gaming.

OMG you're so f'in clever dude. I am definitely riding Bill Gates' jock! In fact I'm posting from his guest house right now. He, Melinda and I just spent 5 sweaty hours banging away like bunnies. Well, Melinda and I did for 4:45 minutes. Bill lasted 15 minutes then promptly passed out from the roofies I dropped in his Dom Perrignon. So in actuality, I didn't spend that much time on his jock tonight.

It couldn't be that the 360 is the only new console coming out this year could it? NAW! I'm riding Bill Gates' jock. Damn boy, how did you know!

Yeah, I do have nerve to comment on your taste in games. You're a fan of recent Nintendo titles and from what you've told us, current Nintendo titles. There hasn't been a first party title they've released since Zelda worth the disc it's printed on. Hence, if you think Nintendo titles released in the past two years are good? Your taste in games sucks.

Thank you for playing. As a contestant on our show you'll receive a case of Turtle Wax, a year supply of Rice a Roni, the San Francisco treat and a heaping helping of PAD brand STFU.

As for console exclusives... Far Cry Instincts and SOCOM 3 are their latest great games. Also Ninja Gaiden Black.

Anyway, ya GC has sucked this year, but I dont mind, it let me save money to buy other great titles I've been wanting.

You have to remember that Nintendo is keeping up a very high level of quality (IMO) while actively supporting three distinctly different platforms, planning the launch of a new console, and mapping out the free WIFI system for the DS and Rev. They've got a lot on their plate, and yet they still managed to release a decent number of really good 'Cube games.

It's also worth noting that most Nintendo fans like myself don't just own the home console -- they also own one or more of the portables. For people like me with a 'Cube, DS, and GBA, it's been really hard to keep up with all of the fun titles Nintendo has been cranking out.

Maybe those who have bashed the output for the 'Cube this year have devised a new technology to increase the number of hours in a day, but for an average guy like me, I really don't have enough time to enjoy all of the games I'd like to play. On average, I probably put in about twenty-five hours a week gaming and still have a stack of about fifteen 'Cube games that I haven't even popped in the system yet and about ten more that I haven't beaten yet. I don't know what I'd do if Nintendo published more than they do now.

I continue to have more fun with this generation of Nintendo games (across all three platforms) than I have in any other period ever, and I've been gaming since the Atari 2600 days.

(P.S. Wario World ruled!! Treasure gave me a solid two week's worth of fun with that title.. played through it twice in the evenings after work and loved every minute of it.)

I have a PS2 and a GC--the only titles I buy for the GC are ones that I can't get for the PS2.

Having said that, my GC library has the better concentration of good titles because I only buy the few "good" ones that come out. Like someone else said, it makes having a complete collection of great GC games easier on the wallet!
