Help! I Need To Remove Permanent Marker From My Game Disc

Hey there,

Can anyone tell me how to remove permanent marker from the front of a PS1 game disc? It is on the artwork and "of course" I do not want to ruin the artwork. Any ideas with normal household products? Thanks!

The game is Tactics Ogre for the PS1, picked it up for $20.00. Not too bad.
 
I've never tried it but the "Easy Off Bam" commercials show the guy removing dried permanent marker from glass. It seem like BS to me, but you could try it.
 
You can try Goo Gone, or a product containing Xylene (such as goof off). It'll come right out. A little dab will do ya, so be careful not to use too much or to wipe too hard, or you'll damage your disc.

I've done it myself on a few rare games, works every time. Sometimes there will be a slightly dark spot on the disc where the marker was, like a shadow, so don't try and scrub that out or you'll just destroy your disc.

but that $19.95 + shipping, that doubles the price of the game.
 
What I do is use a Dry Erase marker, draw over the permanent, wipe it off, and tadaaah, it wipes off the permanent too. if it doesnt go off the first time, keep doing it and it will eventually.
 
Personally, I just wouldn't do it. The top layer is what the data is actually stored on (the bottom of a disc is just a clear protective layer), and if you put a cleanser on the top of the disc, in time it might cause it to crack or peel off. I would just pay the $7 or whatever the game costs to replace.

The art is not the top layer per se' most of the time the art is put on the protective layer covering the data layer.
 
Guess I'll piggyback and ask if theres anyway to remove a sticker (ala Gamestop) from the top of a disc. I just can't take Chop Chop Master Onion's face being blocked by such a nasty piece of adhesive.

Lighter fluid, again because it's on the actual disc just to be safe you may choose to dilute it just a little.
