My wife's birthday is Monday and I need to decide which of these I will get her. I like the fact that Creative's got the FM, but is it enough to make it better than the Ipod?

creative! its scroll is a lot easier to use than the click wheel. i just think the wheel is just to damn hard to use.

If the click wheel is too hard for you to use, I'd recommend avoid eating utensils and cuterly until you figure it out.

Creative's got the edge with drive size and physical size. Only thing the mini really has is iTunes (if she already uses it) and the whole pop culture appeal...

I have no experience with either, but my MP3 player-having daydreams have motivated me to research in the past.

Judging by features alone, you gotta go with the Zen Micro. More memory, FM radio, voice recorder, etc.

For style, Ipod. It's much trendier. But, hey, being trendy sucks, and I personally think the Micros look cooler anyway.

My vote goes for the micro.

Ipod minis are ugly as fuck and only play music. I dont knw if the zen has an other features but i saw a Rio Carbon posted on bens bargains for 150.

Go for the micro. I got mine a few weeks ago and love it to death. Here are some pics of mine in my nifty Altoids tin case.

Just so you know. The iPod interface is argueably more elegant and easier to use, and its tight intergration with iTunes made me into an iPod buyer. I've had nothing but problems transfering from my old (were talking REALLY old) Creative Jukebox... the problem was with the software. iTunes seems to be a lot more stable and it syncs both ways. iTunes is the reason I own an iPod, the program really completes the entire user experience and makes it amazing. So I say iPod Mini.

yeay I really want that zen micro.

I lost my mp3 player on my way home from work last week

so once I finish that temporary position Ima use my paycheck to get me zen micro

Had a problem transferring on my wifes too ended up just dragging them out of the folder on my desktop directly into the MP3 players folder.

My fiance' and I recently went shopping for an MP3 player for her birthday. We looked at the Rio Carbon, Zen Micro, and iPod mini. She went with the iPod, because she said the Micro and the Carbon were "too fat and bulky." Plus, she thought the green iPod mini was cute, and using iTunes made it easy for her to transfer her music.

So...remember, despite the extra features of the Micro, it will ultimately be your wife who uses and enjoys the product. Keep her interests in mind. An iPod mini is your best bet.

Personally, I don't like the size of the zen. I was debating getting rid of my current mp3 player and getting a zen, but for some reason, I just don't like the size and shape of it. That's a personal preference, though. The MSRP of the 5gb zen is $249, the same price of the 6gb iPod mini. The zen does have an fm tuner, though, so that may be worth it to you. I think the cheapest I've found the zen was for $215, although if you're a student, you can get a discount through apple. The biggest thing I would look at is battery life. The zen estimates 12 hours, while the revised iPod mini gets an upward of 18 hours (with tests reaching as high as 22 hours). Overall, it is just a matter of personal taste and what you would you think is important for a mp3 player.

Creative has a funky interface... I like my Archos Jukebox... it's simple... works exactly like an external HD and I don't really care about playlist and that good jive... I just move all the stuf I wanna listen to in one folder and play the folder... SOOOO much easier. There is a way to make a playlist, I'm too lazy to figure it out... I've had the thing for 4 years now, but I'm tempted to trade my mother for her Creative Zen, just because my Archos batteries aren't holding a charge like they used to (easily changed out though). Also the Creative Zen has a better case than my Archos, but I tell you my Archos has been dropped, kicked, thrown, beaten and it still works... my fiance accidently knocked his Creative Zen Xtra off a table and boom broken! My mom's ipod went psycho too, something about disconnecting it while charging on the computer completely wiped the memory and it wouldn't work until it went dead and was recharged. MP3 players are funny little things.

the zen is big and bulky but my wifes gets used int he car about 95% of the time. We use a FM modulator to avoid listening to the crap radio stations here.
