rightwingjedi

CAGiversary!
I am finally upgrading my old LCD. Below is the criteria, let me know if you have any suggestions.

1. Has to be at Best Buy online
2. Must be $825 or under
3. Must be 1080p
4. Must have at least 2 HDMI inputs

I have not made a decision yet because I am still reading up on 60mhz v.s. 120mhz and I am reading up on Insignia LCD's, they have some great reviews at amazing prices.

Check BB online & LMK what you think

You really don't need anything larger than a 19". A 19" with a quality wall mount and professional installation should cost around $750.

I have no idea where you are getting your prices but that is an INSANE SCAM. Pluss it all depend on how away you are sitting. 19 in really small unless you are planning to sit about a foot away.

Thanks guys. My gaming/loafing room is big and the old TV was 32 and really small to me. I think I might go 37 or 40.

My brother said Samsung's pic is much better than Sony Bravia, but I am not sure about that.

My old LCD was 720P and when I saw my buddy rolling at 1080, my jaw dropped, that is why I want to upgrade.

In all honestly I would advise you to NOT buy a TV because for picture quality LED TVs are AMAZING. But as it stands right now the good ones are all over the 1g in price. If you can wait 1 or 2yrs then you can get a BADASS TV at a much better price. If you buy a TV right now, you will most likely regret it every soon.

Also when it comes to gaming Sony and Samsung both suck because they use a cheaper LCD panel technology. Although Samsung is better because with a 1080p signal and the input name changed to 'PC' you can basically fix all the problems with the worse quality panel.

I recently got a 50" samsung because it was on sale at amazon, I honestly think it seems a little big for games, its kind of hard to keep your eyes on everything, I would recommend in the 40 range.

Here are two in your price range ($809).
Sony Bravia KDL40EX500

Samsung LN40C630K1F

Both offer 40" displays and 1080p/120Hz tech. I tend to prefer Samsung sets (have a 40" 1080p set myself) and they're fantastic for gaming. Don't listen to anyone who says otherwise. Insignia units are cheaper; but that's because they're a Best Buy own-brand offering. Avoid those and go for the good stuff. You'll thank yourself later.

Now, if you want to push your budget, you can grab a Samsung of Sony 46" 1080p/60Hz set for less than 50 bucks more. The 120Hz versus 60Hz really doesn't make much of a difference unless you absolutely know you'll need something like Samsung's Auto Motion Plus tech.

If you go smaller than 40", you can then save a bunch of cash by just grabbing a 720p set rather than a 1080p unit. At that size (and arguably, below 50"+) the human eye can't really discern the difference in resolution; which makes mid-size 720p sets the best bargain going right now.

If you didn't give a crap about name brands or where to buy them from, I'd say to try Kmart for the 37" Sylvania LCD tv they have on clearance there right now for $300 something, since Kaydigi said in the Kmart thread that they may be doing an additional 50% off all clearance prices(including TV's).

So you could get a 37" tv for $200-ish and have the additional $600 or so to spend on games.;)

If you want a TV for movies watching TV/programs etc. get a :
Samsung, Sony(both TVs are known for their low response times which results in what we know as "lag" when playing games, but since they use MVA panels, blacks are usually deeper but viewing angles are far worse than IPS.)

If you want a gaming TV get a:
Panasonic, Sharp, LG(these manufactures are generally known for their fast response times and Panasonic and some LGs uses IPS-Alpha panels which give you the best viewing angles and color reproduction on LCDs period but they suffer from weaker blacks than MVA and VA panels.)

If you can push your budget just a little, you can get IMO, the best of the best:

Best Buy has the Sony KDL-46XBR9 on clearance for $999. 100,000:1 Contrast Ratio, 1080P, 240hz, Netflix Streaming, etc.. I have this one and it's the baddass Cadillac mack daddy of LCD TVs. Remember, this set cost $2700 when it came out last year!

It's a deleted/closeout item, so you won't find it at BestBuy.com. Call you local store to see if they have it. They'll probably all be gone chainwide within a month so get it while you still can!

Here's the CNET Review

Are LG's any good? My nephew has a 32" and the picture gaming is very very good. Deep colors.

I was thinking about shelling out $1000 for a Sharp Aquas LED 1080P LED LCD but that is an awful lot for a tv IMO.

I am heading to Wal mart to check out some of the pictures on the different models and the difference between 720 & 1080. My buddy said he has a 720P 37" and a 42" 1080P and cannot tell the difference unless he is 3 feet away.

Samsung and Sony use the same panels on many of their TV's. They jointly own a factory in Korea. The differences between the sets are in the electronics.

I have the slightly older XBR6 Sony. The XBR series are great and if you can get one cheap, go for it.
LG are probably the 2nd best after Panasonic for gaming. They both use the better LCD panels.
I got a 32" LG, and it is nice I must say.
