Help me find some new anime to watch (that doesn't suck)

OK, So I have just tried watching Trinity Blood, Samurai Champloo and Naruto and had to stop out of bordom or lack of interest. The two shows before that, that I did finish were Neon Genesis and Serial Experiments Lain, and while both were not bad I think they were a little to vague with the 'ideas' they were trying to convey. Granted I really really did like the last 4 or so episodes of Neon Genesis.
I really like shows with a story arc, good characterization and maybe a slight philosophic undertone. Rurouni Kenshin, Berserk,Fullmetal Alchemist, Escaflowne, and Last Exile are a few shows I really like in that regard. As far as recent anime I have liked, I really dug Death Note.
I know there has to be more good anime to watch, but I am tired of just wasting time watching these shows that I lose interest in 5 episodes into the series.
Any recommendations would be much obliged.
 
Based on your tastes, I would recommend "Monster" or "Now and Then, Here and There". I would particularly recommend Monster as it's very dark in its tone, and it has a deep plot with lots of mystery.
 
Personally I loved YYH, and watched the entire run of the dub(Damn you CN for fucking with it).

I'd recommend Rahxephon if you liked Evangelion but complained of it being "vague." Code Geass is polarizing. Especially when it changes seasons. I swear there is an R2 gene.

Wicked City
Ninja Scroll

and the coup de grace is the Original Fist of the North Star movie not the series.( it is being reissued on dvd shortly)
 
Well I haven't really watch as much animes as i used to.
But as of right now the only anime that I'm watching is Gundam 00, and I'm very much enjoying it.
And its also the first HD anime I've ever watched and i don't think i can ever go back to any anime in SD .... ever.
 
I'd recommend Wolf's Rain. In my mind it is a lot like Last Exile and Fullmetal. Code Geass from what has been released so far in the U.S. would fit the bill as others mentioned.
 
I rarely give input on these types of threads but screw it i'll bite . Gankutusuou or Code Geass have the highest probability of you enjoying them, maybe Gungrave as well. Looking through some of the recommendations people are giving i'm not even sure if they bothered reading the original post :lol:
 
Thanks for the recommendations! I started Claymore yesterday and am on episode 11 and enjoying it alot. I think after that I will start that Code Geass that alot of you have suggested. That show monster also sounds quite interesting. I work an overnight security job so I have plenty of free time so if you want keep throwing out more ideas, as long as the shows are good I will get through them rather quickly.
 
I assume you've probably seen Cowboy Bebop. If you haven't it's pretty much near the top of all anime lists.
