I just bought the gamecube version of NFL 2k3 for $10 at gamestop..and I was wondering if I could maybe scam Best Buy into taking it in and giving me store credit for it..there selling price is $29.99 on there website...its unopened, so will the scam work or am I wasting my time with them ??

I think the only store that will take back a game without a receipt is WalMart. I'm pretty sure Target, Circuit City, Best Buy, and K-Mart all require some form of a receipt to take it back.

FRAUD ? big deal its not like I'm taking there money..store credit is nothing for big stores like Best Buy..calm down cause it is only a matter of trade..

Best Buy or Circuit City will not give credit without a receipt.
I think Circuit City can actually tell if you've bought it at their store by scanning it.

Don't you think sooner or later (if this master plan works) stores will catch on? Then people who have ligitimate returns get screwed. Also every time someone steals from a store that loss is passed to the consumer. So, after everything is said and done, you pay for it anyway. In the end we all suffer because of scams like this. Just do things the right way.

Not really.

Gamer buys a game at EB for $9.99 new. EB gets rid of some of it's inventory and makes money. EB is happy.

Gamer takes game back to Walmart for $29.99 in credit. Walmart, seeing the game is new and never opened, puts it back on the shelf. Walmart adds inventory (which they will sell eventually, for full price) and Gamer is happy because he got credit. Walmart wouldn't make any profit on it, and at most would lose pennies due to things such as credit card fees and the actual cost of the employee physically putting it back on the shelf, stuff like that. I'd guess they'd lose, at most, 30 cents, but I could be wrong.

Some stores have caught on. K-Mart, at least where I live, won't take back stuff without some form of receipt. However, you said "what if people with legit returns get screwed?". Stores will always be willing to take something back as long as you have a receipt, and they always will. A legit return customer will never get screwed because a legit return means they have their receipt.

at my best buy they have let me bring a game unopened to them without a receipt for store credit and they give me the amount that they are selling it for. i know wal-mart will do it without a problem. hope that helps

"believe what you want. in my district(pittsburgh PA) all of our target stores(all 7 of them) met on a monthly basis to discus problems exchange ideas and such. if we noticed someone doing that kind of activity we would mention it to the group and they would be on the look out. the same goes for other chain stores in the area. if best buy for example got ripped off by someone stealing a certain product or returning bogus stuff, they would make a note of it in email to the rest of the stores in the area. you see, when all the stores work together it is in the greater intrest of of everyone to stop theft."

You might want to read this topic if you don't want to get caught

People did it at the Best Buy and Walmart here near school quite a bit last year. Just to get a different game but with the same value. But they started cutting back on it and become more strict about it, without the receipt.

Okay, this was posted 10 months ago, not 11. You're getting a little closer to the present.
