Help on burning files to a DVD disc

Spades22

CAGiversary!
Hey, I bought some DVD+R CDs thinking they were regular, burnable cds, only capable of holding larger amounts of information. Now when I insert them into the burner slot, it says no cd is found. I've used normal cds 700mb and burned stuff a number of times, but for some reason it cant find a cd when I put these 4.7GB dvd discs in. Anyone know whats wrong?

Question: Do you know the difference between a CDR and a blank DVD?
Question: Do you have a DVD burner?

fyi. blank DVD's do not work in a regular CDR drive.

He obviously doesn't, since he referred to them as DVD+R cd's.

DVD's, like the ones you just bought, are different than CD's. They aren't just CD's that can hold more info. You won't be able to say, burn 40 songs to a DVD instead of just 20 to a CD. 2 completely different formats.

Aww darn, so I guess I cant burn stuff to it then? I wanted to burn a game thats like 4 gigs, but of course it doesnt work on a cd. Are there any kind of cds that can burn large things for me? I have 2 drives: an "hp cd writer" and "dvd rom" drive.

Oh and I know that cds and dvds are different things...but I thought it wouldnt matetr for burning >
no, there are no larger cd-rs.... just buy a dvd burner they are like 30 bucks.
Do you really think he's going to be able to install a dvd burner, if he doesn't even know the difference between CDs, and DVDs?

ahhh
there actually are larger cd-rs, but many devices are not compatible with them
870MB, 99 min

also, there are some burners that are capable of doing hd-burn which lets you burn 1.4 gb of data onto a regular cdr. once again, the compatibility isn't all that great.

I thought my thing was a cd/dvd burner! Hmph. Ya I can figure stuff out though. I mean...I installed a video card! Fixed my playstation controller....

Ya...I just didnt know you needed separate burners for them, I figured a burner was a burner. Besides that I do know the diff. tho.
