Help! PS3 and FF7 save

Hey, maybe everyone can give me some input and help here. I'm playing FF7 for the first time ever on my PS3, and just got to the second disc. Problem is, every time when the first random encounter loads, no matter where, it shows the battle field and that's it. No characters or enemies, but the music plays normally. Think the save could have been corrupted somehow? I checked the disc and it's clean with no scratches, and I have a save before the last boss, so it's not really a big deal, but still aggravating.

Have you tried progressing with the backup save?

Well, went back to the old save and beat the boss again, then still on the second disc at whatever first random encounter i'm getting the same problem. Maybe there's something wrong with the disc and i just can't see it on account of how they're black

See if you can borrow a buddies copy of the game (assuming you have a buddy who has FF7). That way you'll know whether it's the disc or the system/save.

Yep sounds like a disc problem. First time I was playing FF7, my sister accidently scratched the 2nd disc just as I got to that point. Had to buy a second copy. Of course years later, I ran into someone who needed Disc 1 and 3 so I guess you could say it all balanced out.
