I've noticed lately that my car is drowning in CD's, so I think it's about time I bite the bullet and get myself in touch with some actual technology, i.e. an MP3 player.
Anyways, there are four probably options, and I have a few questions about each - anyone who owns one of these babies or knows about them, I'd appreciate the help!
iPod Classic 80GB
I was certain I was going to stick with the Classic, but there are a couple things that concern me about it. First of all, all of the display models I've tested out in stores have extremely unresponsive click wheels, especially compared to my sister's 5G iPod. I've heard there's a software update that may address this issue...any comments? Also, is it true that once the Classic goes idle after thirty seconds or so that it stops displaying what song is playing and switches to a battery/clock view? That seems like a pretty big step back.
iPod Touch 16GB
More expensive, yes, and less space, but damn if it's not a sweet piece of technology. I find navigating music the easiest on the Touch. It's 16GB, but what's the formatted capacity? I already have 13.2 GB of music, but a whopping 5.3 GB of that are Video Game Soundtracks, very few of which I'd need to have stored on my iPod for convenient listening (I really don't need all 7 Metal Slug soundtracks with me at all times). If I got a touch, would I be able to deselect a lot of the game music? Also, around what time of the year does Apple announce it's annual new iPod models? I may want to wait for a 32GB touch...
Zune 80
This is actually my favorite MP3 player of the bunch, and it seemed the most intuitive and easy to use from my hands on time. Problem is, all of my music is already organized in iTunes, and I've heard some terrible things about the Zune software. Apparently it'll auto transfer over all of the music except those purchased from iTunes, but I can just burn and reimport the seven or so CD's worth of music I've purchased from iTunes. Still, is the Zune software as horrendous as I've heard? iTunes is pretty damn great...
iPod 5G
All of these options have their downfalls, so I've considered getting an older iPod for cheap, but I'm wary of buying a used or refurbished model...my sister bought one and has had quite a few problems with it in around a year's time.
I've looked around at some other options, but I want it mainly for music (so Archos is a bit much), and I really dislike the Creative Zen players.
Anyone have any advice or other recommendations?
Thanks!
