Help understanding rockband exports

I finally was able to afford a PS3 this year, and I really want rockband and saw there was some method to export RB songs between versions. I see how people are explaining going from RB2 to RB3, but not RB1. Is this even possible? I purchased a used copy of RB1 from a friend who never really played it.

Ideally I would like to get RB3 & maybe the country track pack. From what I understand, getting a used copy of any trackpack is useless unless you want to just play off the disc, correct?

Could anyone explain this to me or point me to a resource which explains it clearly ?

Thank you so much!!!

On the Xbox you had to pay $5 to export the songs from RB1 to the HDD - you got all but 4 or 5 songs due to licensing issues (one of them was Enter Sandman though which was unfortunate because that's a great RB song - especially the drums). Not sure about PS3 but I imagine it works similarly.

For the PS3, it's pretty much the same process. First, buy the export key on the Playstation Store. Then, pop in your Rock Band 1 disc and go to options, where there will be an "Export Songs" option. Viola. You should be able to play all those songs (with the exception of, as javeryh stated, a few songs).

sweetg1223 > Excellent, thanks! So, just to confirm, if I export RB1 songs with the playstation store process, do they show up in all other versions of rockband, or just RB3? So, if I get RB2, do they show up in there as well? Also, do the track packs work the same? They just show up in all versions of rockband?
