I just picked up DMC 3 recently. I really love this game, but I am just finding it very difficult. It's the first game in the series I have played and I am stuck on level 3, so it's not looking too good. Can someone give me some advice on combos that work especially well or other tips on getting better at this game. Also, which style seems to be the most effective, and finally any tips on beating that ice dog on level three? Thanks!!

I still have yet to beat the game too (I'm on stage 8 IIRC), but what helped me out a lot was to go back to the first stage and just keep playing it to get tons of red orbs. This way, you can power up Dante like crazy and the game won't be AS hard. Good luck!

There is alaways gamefaqs.com. Can't believe anyone who plays videogames and has the internet doesen't know about this site. You'll never need a guide again, unless you can't read and like pretty pictures.

There are times when the printed guides are a hell of alot better then the ones on GameFAQ's.

Yeah, I use gamefaqs on occasion, but I was just looking for some quick tips rather than have to go through one of their game guides. I may just end up picking up a game guide because I really love the style and gameplay of this game.

Thanks Gameboy, I'll have to go back to the first level and start building up my orb totals to buy some new things.

Trickster is probably the best style to use if you are having difficulty with the game. The game difficulty is inflated due to its extremely poor camera which is made even worse due to the nature of enemy attacks in the game; they often jump back out of camera view then dash forward. A tip would to be listen for audio cues. Most of the enemies make a sound before they attack letting you know when to dodge. Trickster makes dodging the enemies much more efficient.

As for the Cerberus, i do know that if u use trickster you can avoid the falling icicles simply by tapping the special button.

The best tip I can give is to get good with a style of your preference. Trickster is good because it allows you to get out of harms way relatively easily-- especially if you spend time getting it to level 2 throughout your red orb hunt on mission 1.

I beat cerberus using Swordmaster. All you need to do is get air hike-- and then keep jumping while he attacks, shooting the ice off of his body. When it is gone, all you need to do is run up and continue using the prop-shredder attack.

He will die very easily this way.

In general, the secret to DMC is to be cautious. Despite all of the cutscenes telling you what a bad-ass you are, the easiest way to win is still divide and conquer. Try to trap enemies against walls for deadly comboing. Keep yourself away from the majority of the enemies if you can help it. Always try to limit how many enemies you fight at a time. If things are getting crazy, Air Hike/Trickster the hell out of there. You don't need mad combo skills to win, you just have to be observant and efficient.

That being said, I was able to beat Cerberus with the pistols. Basically, I just stood at a long distance with E&I, and fired like a madman. His attacks are pretty easy to read, so you just have to react accordingly. The most annoying one (raining ice) can be predicted by observing the floor. The floor will get "frozen" a moment before ice rains down. I used the Trickster dodge to avoid most of his attacks. Whenever he lunges, dodge, then get in good with Rebellion (Sidewinder) for huge damage. Don't forget that you need to clear off the ice from him before you can damage him.

Don't be afraid to use a healing item if you need to. Unless you're going for all S ratings on your first time through, one item use isn't going to screw up your rating. I've gotten A's so far, even though I've used a small green star on every boss.

Trickster is great against the Dog(Cerberus)...Go crazy on his head, shoot all the ice off, slash away, dodge when he drops ice etc.

Oh yeah, Get enough Red orbs for the AIR HIKE before you fight him...the air hike makes everything easier.
