so i got this chicken shit traffic ticket/violation for a rolling stop at a stop sign at 2:30 am in a residential area.

in short i was driving with my brother, we dropped off his girlfriend at her place [ lives in a condo; nice area ]. while i was driving through the area i slowed down and went through a stop sign [ although the cross section, which was a T, was kind of hard to notice cause of a tall bush ]. some pussy ass cop was waiting at the cross section with his lights turned off and as i drove by he pulled me over.

these pussy cops do this all the time in that area. i've seen 2 other cop cars on different days just sitting in the middle of the street or hidden on the side with their lights turned off to give out any kind of ticket they could give.

so i sat on this ticket for the longest time cause it's utter BS and i've been busy with school work. and like other problems i face in life, i ignore them. now that i actually got around to "try" to pay it, i can't. [ thought about fighting it but the cop saw me "run" it so eff it ]

tried to pay for it online, says my docket # isn't in the system and that it takes 6 weeks [ tried this about 5 different days ]. tried to pay by phone and the phone # is disconnected [ tried this on 2 different days ]. couldn't pay by mail cause the dead line was too close.

now it's passed the dead line [ and grace period ] by probably a week. i checked a few days ago if i can pay online and i still can't.

what can/should i do? is there a possibility that i can contact the county in which i was given a ticket in [ Alameda, CA ] and complain about their payment system and perhaps get more time or even have the ticket dropped or something?

note: first time i've ever gotten a ticket or been pulled over. my record is clean. so i was suprised that i actually got a eff'ing ticket.

Don't insult the cop for doing his job. It's the lowest thing you can do and it shows you deserved every part of that chicken shit ticket.

Plus you're retarded for California Stopping a stop sign when you knew cops hang out in that area.

Hmmm, looks like you have to go down in person and pay it. Do that before they send it off to a bill collector and make your problem even worse. I don't know what else you can do, you sat on it for too long to try and figure out a way to pay it and you were unwilling to fight it.

You're going to need to go down to the courthouse I believe and pay it. And if I'm not mistaken, failure to pay or show up on your scheduled court date could lead to an arrest warrant, so... you may wanna do that.

You should probably got to the courthouse and pay this ticket. If you get pulled over again... you are going to go to jail. This happened to my brother and he was in jail for about 6 hours until he was bailed out. They will also raise the fine for paying late.

Hopefully, the docket number you entered was unrecognized for a reason. A friend of mine had a bullshit ticket issued to him recently. I won't go into the details, but when he went in on his appointed case date and time, apparently there was no record of anything. I assume the cop simply dropped it. This is probably a long shot considering your situation, though. You really need to call up the actual courthouse and see what the deal is. Not that this advice does you any good anymore, but I would recommend anyone always contest their ticket.

I was ticketed about 2-3 years ago for not yielding a railroad crossing... on foot. The barricades for the cars had literally just lowered. It couldn't have been more than 10 seconds since that I hopped over the tarmac. This was on a college campus, and some douchebag cop was posted up citing everyone he saw cross the tracks after the barricades went down. Myself and at least three other people were ticketed, and I later found out that it was something like a $130 ticket. I fought it for the hell of it, and the cop never showed up.

They gathered all of our cases together at once, and absolutely no one whose cop showed up won their case. The judge will listen to the opening statement of the defending citizen and then the cop, and immediately side with the cop. It's not even a contest. If you have the time, you might as well fight your ticket just in hopes of the cop not showing up. If he does, just come up to the judge and do whatever you want. Seriously. You can say or do whatever you want, because the cop will win. It's worth a shot, though, because if the cop doesn't show up then you're off clean.

Sucks to be you. I hope you find a spot in life where you can accept responsibility for things you screwed up doing, as you don't do a very good job of attributing the blame to others.

Traffic tickets are very easy to fight... Of course, it depends on the area in which you live.

All they really want is your money, anyway; Fight the points.

Go to court, plead guilty, and the judge will probably knock off the points since you have a clean record.

They should mail you a court date at least if it's anything like MD or VA.

i hate these damn cops
and its pointless to fight the ticket cause you end up paying alot for a court case, and the judge sides with the cop no matter what so you end up payign the ticket too.
cops got too much power.
fuck em.

You're an idiot. The OP admitted he ran the stop sign! How is the cop a dick? Don't break the fucking law and you won't get a ticket.

I hate those ''pussy ass cops'' too, OP. Last month I was smogging my car up w/ a giant blunt and the asshole pulled me over because of it, threw me in jail, and I missed the Cowboys game.

What the fuck kind of crap is that? I'm going to fight it because it wasn't even my fault and the cop was just being an asshole and not doing his job.
Pay for your ticket and stop whining. I'd imagine when a sign says 'STOP' w/ 'come to a rolling' on top in tiny lettering... then you can start complaining the cop pulled you over for not doing his job. Until then, don't be stupid.

Don't pay that ticket, man...Just sit on it. I want to hear you bitching later on about going to jail and having some "Pussy ass" con making you sit on something else.

Definitely go to the courthouse, as a bench warrent may be in your future if it remains unpaid, depending on CA laws.

If it's a chicken shit ticket, then pay the chicken shit fine.

I actually encountered a real dick cop who chased me down (without his lights, just the white floodlight) on the parkway screaming through his megaphone.

What did I do? I had my running lamps on instead of my lights at 4am. He gave me a speeding ticket for trying to get away from him.

When I got to court he dropped the charges, I assume for fear of looking like one of the fabled "pussy ass cops".

Go to court, it's free and if he doesn't show up you have a chance of escaping.

In Texas you may request a driver safety course to dismiss up to 1 ticket every 12 months. The instructions for that are written directly on the ticket; however, you must make the request in time. You will pay court costs plus the cost of the driving safety course (this was $120 + $40 a few months ago).

If you have taken a driving safety course to dismiss a ticket within 12 months you may appear in court on your scheduled date (usually on the ticket as well) and request deferred adjudication. This is at the judge's discretion, but if you are polite about it, your request will likely be granted. In my experience the judge has required me to pay court costs plus take a driving safety course, and then if I am not issued another violation within 90 days the ticket is dismissed.

If you wish to do either of the above to dismiss your ticket, do not plead guilty. I have seen this in traffic court too many times: guy pleads guilty, judge accepts plea, guy asks for defensive driving a couple minutes later -- it is too late once you enter a plea. You have to decide what is important to you. My ultimate goal is always to keep tickets off my record since they cost more in the long run for insurance. If money is no issue for you, then always just pay the ticket and move on with your life. Then again it might be worth the $50 to hire a traffic attorney to take over everything about your ticket.

No matter what you choose you should do as others have said and find out the status of your ticket. You don't want it to come back to haunt you later; if that ticket has matured into a warrant the next time you are pulled over you could go to jail. Own up to your responsibilities and resolve your own problems otherwise expect a protracted journey through the system.

When I was in college I bounced a check (overdrawn by less than $1) toward the end of the semester. I had moved out of the dorm and by the time the bank, merchant, etc were able to track me down the case had escalated past the normal $20 bounce check fee and to clear up the issue I had to enter a no contest plea and take a bad check-writing class. This class was filled with older people living paycheck to paycheck, and was geared to teach them that floating checks is a crime.

I'd also like to affirm what others are saying about the attitude toward police. Realize the position of uncertainty the cop is in when he pulls over two males at 2:30am. It is easy to get an ef-em-all attitude when you're bombarded with taser vids on youtube, but when it comes to your personal interaction with the police you might be shocked (ha-ha) to realize how far "yes, sir" and "no, sir" will get you. I have been pulled over by the police literally three dozen times and received only 6 or 7 tickets.

Please do not insult other members. If you don't like what the OP has to say and cannot find a constructive way to disagree then don't post in this thread.

If you really feel the need to talk shit to one another then take it to the Vs. Forum.

i didn't know that there were cops "hiding" in the area till after getting my ticket. i'm usually a really good/nice driver. when i got to the T section, i didn't see headlights coming from the side so i just slowed down and rolled past the sign [ ~4 mph ], i was pretty tired and wasn't thinking straight.

when he pulled me over, i was super polite and addressed him with "sir" and all that jazz. he still decided to write me a ticket when he probably could have left me off with just a warning. and while he was writing the ticket, a back up car arrived [ they really must have nothing better to do ].

as for "he's doing his job", why doesn't he do what he's more entitled to be doing, which is helping the community by preventing or dealing with more serious crimes, instead of sitting in his car in the dark of the night giving out tickets at 3 in the morning [ which was in a nice area to begin with ].

i would like to thank those that provided me with useful information. and for those that attacked me and were being sarcastic, i'm just highly perturbed that they offer different methods of payment for a ticket, but when you try to use said methods you're unable to. so sorry if i came off as a whiner, cause i am not one.

yes it's my fault for not doing a complete stop. yes it's my fault for sitting on the ticket so long. but i'm just looking for some insight on what to do from here.

If there are so many cops in a specific area as you described, then more likely than not it's the result of the homeowner's in the area complaining about speeders/people not stopping at stop signs. They complain to the police or city council, and then the cops sit there at the request of the people in the area. So just like certain laws are decided by the community as a whole, the people in that neighborhood probably requested that the cops do extra patrols there to keep people from running stop signs, etc, because it's been a problem in the past. If that's the case, then the cop probably had less of a choice in your ticket because the stop sign was exactly what people were complaining about. Not saying that was the situation, but it is a strong possibility.

And larger crimes aren't always reported 24/7, so there probably wasn't any better place the cop had to be.

As for the response of everyone in this thread, this is what happens every time someone asks about getting out of a ticket or has a story about a, "Stupid cop," or whatever. I expected nothing less. It's just one of those given things that if I see a thread title similar to yours, I know people are going to say, "You shouldn't have broken the law in the first place." Threads like this are flame bait.

As for my recommendation: Pay it ASAP. Like people said earlier, there is a possibility that you could get a warrant for your arrest for not paying it, and even better possibility that the fine has at least increased. You were lazy about the ticket and let it sit too long. It happens. Now you have to pay for your laziness by paying the ticket, and a possible additional fine. Don't let it get worse.

Take care of your obligation and learn, hopefully, from your mistakes.

You have problems, other areas of focus which kept you distracted so that you couldn't take care of the ticket? Welcome to "life".

If you have the option I'd try to fight the ticket, the worse thing that might happen is you waste 1/2 an hour of time, and you still have to pay the fine. The best would be the officer didn't show up and you got off ez. It's especially easy to get off a ticket if the officer was using, say, a doppler radar gun- you ask to see the FCC certification on the gun, and when/if it's calibrated.

Unfortunately that's not your case.

Here in Houston we have some...interesting law firms which specialise in traffic law. They deal in bulk-cases: they'll take a few hundred of the same type of ticket, go to court representing all of them, do some legal mumbo-jumbo, and get everyone off the hook. $100 flat fee, and you don't have to deal with going downtown.

As another person mentioned we can also opt to take Def. Driving.

Someone needs to explain to me the day it became alright to do a rolling stop at stop signs.

I get honked at so many times because I actually stop and look both ways.

And while we're at it, someone please explain why people think they don't have to stop at a red light when they are making a right turn. You still have to stop.

In summary, you should just man up and pay the ticket, since you did something wrong, know you did something wrong, and thus should be held accountable for doing something so clearly wrong.

But I have a feeling you're not going to do that, and complain under some bullshit "entitlement" nonsense.

Traffic laws don't apply if you have a driver's license. I think that's in the book somewhere. I mean why else would anyone get one? Getting one shows that you're an excellent driver, so the rules don't apply. The rules just apply to those who don't have one.

I was reminded of this about 1 year ago when I was given a ticket for failure to stop at a red light. I knew as soon as I saw the flash from the camera that I was screwed. I ended up paying $410 for the ticket and $26 for traffic school. You can be damn sure that I now stop at every red light and count to 5 before making a right turn. Lesson learned.
