The game is out, but the scores are low. 67 at Metacritic...

8.0 from IGN

5.0 from Game Informer

Maybe it's love hate.
The World of Mana is back again on Nintendo DS, and this time it's taking a very unconventional form. While the franchise has looked to evolve itself with every iteration, series creator Koichi Ishii is bringing the Mana world down a fairly-uncharted path for Nintendo's touch-screen handheld, as Heroes of Mana will land later this Summer as DS's first full-fledged real-time strategy game. We've just recently been given a chance to go hands-on with the game in its first English build (Heroes of Mana is already available in Japan), and are already beginning to go through DS-RTS withdrawal, as Heroes of Mana brings the familiar world-management genre to the DS in an impressive fashion.

Its made by Brownie Brown, who made the last DS Mana game, and that Magial Starsign game. Infer from this what you will.
Brownie Brown made this game. They also made Sword of Mana and Magical Starsign.
hahahaha! Both in at 4:14 FTW!!! lol

I LOVED children of mana on the ds
I was okay with magical starsign (thought it was too hard in some parts but a great game still need to beat it)

As long its better then LOST MAGIC i be happy

Yeah, I have mixed feelings about Brownie Brown. Magical Starsign has given me many hours of fun, whereas their Mana offerings have been okay. So we'll see.
Brownie Brown also had a hand in Mother 3, one of the holiest games ever created.
With Mother 3 Shigesato Itoi also had a hand, and it is better then BB's other game.

BB made the GBA Mana game, not the DS Mana game.

Well, yeah. And yes it is the best Brownie Brown game.
Brownie Brown didn't make Children of Mana, Nextech did.
That's what I was thinking (that BB didn't do it, not that I knew who did.)

They made the GBA one which was meh..

Nintendo Power gave it a 6.5. Ouch. They had kind words for it overall, but seemed to fault it most for the shoddy AI of your units, which, as we all know, is death in an RTS.

On the other hand, IGN put up an in-depth hands on preview yesterday calling the game brilliant, so who's to say. Sure does look pretty, I'll give it that. Check out those rotating battlefields in the videos.
IGN's been dishing out hyperbole left and right though, lately.
True enough. I'm somewhat meh on Matt Cassamassina and strongly dislike Mark Bozon. I like Craig Harris, though.

I will, however, give them credit for drumming up support for Zack & Wiki, which looks fantastic. And Bozon's HoM preview was actually much deeper and more observant than the NP review, so they did a better job backing up their arguments.

Dangerous for their credibility to be doing such a positive review of a game this close to release, but I'm not sure if that's stopped them before.

Metacritic page
Quite a few reviews have been put up since the last time someone posted in this topic.

From what I can gather of some of these reviews, it seems that the game's biggest Achilles' Heel is the lousy AI pathfinding. On the positive side, even the lower-score reviews applaud the control scheme, even Kevin VanOrd of GameSpot admitted that the intuitive stylus control "confirms that RTS works on the DS." Thus, if you can put up with the poor pathfinding, then you might have an enjoyable time.

I do want this...I just don't know if I $40 want this right now. I can wait, especially with Pokemon Pearl en route to my house for $20.

I'm hoping to use the TRU 20% off on this one...

And it looks like upcoming SE DS titles aren't all $39.99 (according to Amazon):
Front Mission $34.99
Revenant Wings $39.99
DQM: Joker $34.99

I have a good first impression from the game. The AI path whatzits is bad, but you can always micromanage. You'll get a lower completion time if you rush, but besides the S ranks there isn't much you lose if you take your time with each unit.

glad i didnt buy it. really dont care for it one bit. i probally keep it thought the weekend and return it. i wouldnt be shocked to see this in the 10 buck bin very soon
Really? The reviews have been so good; it's going to kill me to wait until Sunday to pick it up (Best Buy sale).
i Really dont see why they would group this as an RPG game.

Rpg game to me = level up and have more hp.

this game you dont level up. all of the creatures you make have the same HP no matter if your on map 1 or map 20

you put on equipment is the only way to gain HP or more attack. I would not put this game in the same group as that Fire emblem game (at least in that game you got to LEVEL UP and get more HP

Hell if i knew for sure that
Luminous Arc

would be here by saturday

i would return heroes tomorrow

fingers crossed Luminous Arc is here tomorrow and i can return heroes saturday instead of being stuck with it all weekend.

I would been totally pissed if i paid 40 for it

just staring map 5 at the 2 hour mark

(LOL 1 day and gamefly is already selling it while ARC is still NOT FOR SALE )

EDIT decided just to toss it back to gamefly tomorrow.... game was a MAJOR Letdown for myself. I would rather played Children of mana any day over this one

i would rather toss it back tomorrow and pick up

Brunswick Pro Bowling or Dungeons & Dragons Tactics next week

EDIT 2

I should mention i think my touch screen is a little #$#$$# up . half the time the things wont move when you touch them

sadly ARC didnt make it today. I hope it makes it Saturday or i wont have jack crap to play over the weekend. (I could open up my Tales of the world for the psp but i might have to sell that

Not really feeling this game after the first two levels. Initial impressions are bad mainly due how the unit movement is handled. Hell, even Lost Magic has easier controls for moving your units around and they moved better as well. I'm going to keep playing for a few more levels at least, but I don't see this being a long term play.

Lunious Arc on the other hand, seems to be a nicely done little SRPG. Nothing spectacular, just a nice, traditional, NIS style SRPG that I can take around.
