Hip-Hop ain't dead~!! It's the D-d-d-d-d-discussion Thread!
The Blueprint is excellent, and the Black Album is worthwhile (though I prefer the Grey Album).
Word. Blueprint has got some damn good cuts on it.

Finally listening to Marco Polo's Port Authority right now.

And oh yeah, Liquid will love this: new Panacea album on Sept. 4.

I've been enjoying this vid:

Kanye West ft. Rakim, Nas, & KRS One - Classic (Better than I ever been)
I could never get in to Biggie, just don't like his voice.
Everyone has there opinion (even if it is crazy) but I feel the same way about Sadat X from Brand Nubian.
i thought Life After Death was much better...
I'll look into it. It's just that I've heard it was inspired by All Eyez On Me, which was once CD too long, IMO. Seriously, I buy a fucking 2pac CD to hear 2pac, not some random dumbass who can't rhyme.

If you like 2pac you should get Me Against the World if you don't already have it. I'd say it's his best album.

Ya know, if the government disappeared P.Diddy, I'd be REALLY fucking happy.

BROOKLYN ZOO-zoo-zoo.

ODB, how we miss thee.

Makes me want to listen to Ghostface Killah, but I'm listen to some Talib right now instead.

It'd be cool if he would end his attempt at rapping and producing too.

Nah, I'd just like him to die after they remove Big's dick from his mouth.

EDIT: Just won Aquemini for $2.51 on eBay. fuck yeah.

That's an awesome deal! I remember back in the day, when Aquemini & Jay-Z vol.2 hard knock life came out in the same week! That was a awesome time for hip hop. You should pick up ATLiens by outkast(if you don't have it), that is one of my all-time favs!

talkin about dead rap artists... RIP Freaky Tah

Lost Boyz = my favorite group as a kid..

their first 2 records are rite outside my top 5
Everyone here should check out The Nextmen that fart_bubble got me and senorwoohoo onto.
Have you gotten around to checking out any of their mixes?
Have you gotten around to checking out any of their mixes?
Not yet. Got any specific ones to recommend?

A Child's Introduction To Jazz and Family & Friends are my favorites but you might as well grab their first one Personal Golf Instructions as its pretty cool to see how they have tightened up their sound over the few years. I honestly haven't listened to Playing the Game or Listen & Lose enough to get a strong take on if I like them or not though frankly, everything they do is top notch so its not like you can pick out anything that is a miss.

edit: I'm also glad you two seem to dig them

man fart_bubble is always down with the music nobody but himself has heard, lol.

I gotta get down with that, hopefully this Nextmen is on emusic.

shit, Nextmen are probably one of the biggest groups I listen to (popularity wise)

Beside illegal downloading where does everyone get there independent or underground Hip-Hop from? Got a few places but wanted to see if I could get some new ones.

well, since www.hiphopsite.com is closing (their catalog is now 40% off) its now www.undergroundhiphop.com, www.cduniverse.com, www.cdbaby.com and www.juno.co.uk beyond a local B&M shop that hooks me up with a 10% above cost when I special order stuff

edit: also forgot Jazzy Sport's own site is where I go when I am looking for stuff from Japan

Thanks for Jazzy Sport and Juno.co.uk, the rest I already have. Between hiphopsite.com going digital downloads and sandboxautomatic stop selling vinyl are some of the reasons I am looking for alternatives.

aw hella yes~!!! saw this on youtube:

on the topic, I never mentioned this yet but DJ Quik is my favorite west coast producer!!!

not to mention one of my top emcees as well, Quik spits effortlessly and always makes himself sound interesting. Damn near all of his records are classic too!!

not to mention he is responsible for yet another song I can EASILY put into my top 5 rap songs ever.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=Z4863IGL
Dollaz and Sense is seriously the best diss song ever, EVER! no contest. Quik rips on MC Eiht way too hard. Other rappers can listen to this track and wish they can do that to others. A sick beat which he rides hard, a catchy ass headbanger, and damn the way he spits is straight O_O~!!! Please if you think you've heard a better diss track, show me.
I remember when that song came out everyone wanted to take sides just like the stupid west vs. east thing. I never did on both subjects and bumped both of them. Here is MC Eiht on the Cypress Hill with Redman and Erick Sermon song Throw Ya Hands in the Air.

Anyone else a slut for Stones Throw material?

I can't wait until Yesterday's Universe officially comes out as well as Madlib's latest beat CDs.

What I really want is another Madvillain, Quasimoto or MF DOOM album.

Yep, I'll check out anything that label puts out. Glad I got a copy of Peanut Butter Wolf's 666 Mix on vinyl.

Any other fans of Supastition?

I can't find my old skool rap! Where can I find cds (if they even exist) by the following:

King Sun
Twin Hype
Special Ed
Ultramagnetic MCs
Son of Berzerk

I used to have 2 shoeboxes full of tapes by these guys, but now I want to reinvest in some digital media.

Good luck trying to find King Sun and Twin Hype, I got lucky to find my replacements at a Music Recyclery. Special Ed and UMCs are easy to find, check Amazon or evilBay (run you a buck or so each). Son Of Berzerk is a bit harder to find but they usually pop up atleast once or twice a month on ebay and get no bidders or there are usually a copy or two through Amazon Marketplace.

Thanks. I used to frequent the Music Recyclery stores here, but they've all closed up this year.

Yeah, the last one I can think of is the one in Waukegan (which is the one where I found my copies and I honestly don't know if that is still there or not). It was a complete spit take when I found those, I didn't think I would ever be able to replace my cassettes

I gotta look for those tapes! I don't even know if I still have them. I don't have a tape deck with which to listen to them, but it would be funny to see what I still have.

Some of those artists I mentioned can be had on Amazon, if I wanted to pay $25-30 per disc.:hot:

I just discovered that Launchcast has an 80s hip-hop station, so at least I can get my fix that way.

I know Just Blaze has made some crappy, cliche-sounding beats, (who hasn't?), but when he's on, goddamn. Listening The Blueprint just reminded me to say that. He might do more 'mainstream' shit for the most part, but it's usually epic and just damn good. My favorite JB beat is probably either "Song Cry" or Ghostface Killah's "The Champ."

I still have a box of about 400 or so tapes in the garage, shit that I really have no use for but I'll never get rid of them as they are the tapes I grew up with. Shit, I would be surprised if most of them are not worn out

Really? I know its been awhile since I've looked at Amazon for some of that stuff but that shit is insane. There is no reason that should be that fucking expensive, those are come great albums but I really can't say they were that popular. I guess your best bet is watching evilBay as I know for a fact that they usually get listed atleast once or twice a month and they get no bidders. Sadly there isn't many people who check out the older stuff anymore (let alone actually knowing hip hop history). Atleast UMCs and Special Ed are still really easy to find. Like I said, I got lucky finding King Sun and Twin Hype for 5.99 a piece.

Are there 2 versions of "Cars that Go Boom"? I remember the one by Le Tigre, but now I'm listening to one by Old School Players (not nearly as good).

Now there is a song I have't heard in a long time but I think you mean L'Trimm

and I didn't know there is a cover of it
Whiteboy, you got me bumpin' The Blueprint.
