Feh. You really think that being in overrated quasi-independent big-company artsy films places you on a higher pedestal than Jamie Foxx, who has the biggest name presence of anybody else listed? Do you think that some poor bastard who wants to see *another* bland-ass military movie is going to say "oh, honey, the putz who wanted to make whoopie with Natalie Portman in Garden State is in a Marine movie! With that black person, too!"?

I think the demographic of the films you mentioned are as far away from a movie called "Jarhead" as is a film adaptation of "Tuck Everlasting" would be. My guess is that Jamie Foxx has a wee tiny role in the movie, and they couldn't put him any higher on the billing without looking like obvious whores.

At any rate, I didn't think "jarhead" was a racist or otherwise negative term as Ackbar claims, but actually a term of endearment between Marines. I could be wrong, though.

It probably is just a small role, or he would get top billing at this time.

I dunno about the demographic being that far off, it was directed by the director of American Beauty. It might appeal to action movie fans since they will go "Oh, sweet! A war movie." but that is akin to Jean Claude Van Damme(sp?) or Chuck Norris fans going "SWEET! FIGHT CLUUUUBB is gonna be awesome!" simply based on the name.

Jarhead is definitely not a racist term. Also, Donnie Darko is incoherent tripe. Yes, even the director's cut. Yes, I read/watched the extras.

Similarly just because you do understand does not make it not incoherent. Things can make sense and be incoherent. This is another logical fallicy many make. I'm not saying that the movie is incoherent or not, but the word incoherent does not only mean "does not make sense."

Now, I haven't seen the movie Donnie Darko, but I have seen dozens of pretentious pieces of shit movies. Especially Troma releases. Or Harmony Korine.
 
that movie in the directors cut of donnie darko was hilarious. that guy was at comicon this year.
 
Having personally asked a friend of mine, who is an active Marine, you should NOT refer to a Marine as a jarhead. He gave me a one-time-only bye because I'm his friend. Coming from a civilian, most Marines will take it as an insult.

This movie could easily be portraying Marines as incompetent, unethical or worse, judging by both the title and the director. Don't get all upset if you disagree w/me because my opinion, at least at this point, is still very much uninformed. It could change when I find out more about the premise.

As far as leet-speak, I don't even know what that is.:whistle2:s

Which doesn't resolve the definition that I brought up, which is that the word is a term of endearment *between* Marines, or possibly a diminuitive term from higher ranking Marines to new recruits. Either way, although it's inappropriate from a civilian, howsabout from one to the other?

You friend takes life too seriously if he gives his "friend" a "bye" for something you asked inquisitively. What does your "friend" threaten to do next time you say it? I mean, it's not like saying "Jehovah" or anything like that. ;)
