My soon to be brother-in-law just purchased a new slim-model PS2. Well since he got that, he traded in his old PS2. He also had the HDD w/FFXI and guess what? He said I could just HAVE it! I asked him twice if he wanted anything for it but he said no. Man, I totally lucked out! :D

Yeah, he is. He isn't into games to the depth that I am but I always try to hook him up when I see deals. This year when ESPN NBA and College Hoops went on sale for $14.99 at BB, I got him copies. Whenever he and my sister go out and see a great deal, he'll get me a copy. He has given me games before (Gold Zelda for NES) and I have given him accessories (PS2 Monster Cable) and sports collectables (he is really into that). So it works out great.

so... when are you gonna get a copy of HD ADVANCE? lol.

I probably won't. I pretty much own most of the PS2 games I want so I don't need to burn whole games to the HD. I have wanted to try FF XI for awhile now and this is a great chance for me to do so. Also, it will be cool to backup my saved games to the HD because my cards are getting full.

I know that HD support is blah but I also have ESPN NBA 2k5 to use it with.

Its a good idea to copy games you play alot on to that HD. That way your dont wear-n-tear the laser on your PS2 unit (ie Grand Theft Auto SA).

HDadvance significantly decreases the load times for games.

I've heard about the speed increase but to be honest, loading times don't bother me. I'd rather not even fool with it since I am sure Sony frowns upon it. Also, instead of wear and tear to the laser wouldn't it add wear and tear to the HD?

HDD are built for wear and tear. It would be better to use the HDD more than to use the laser more, especially with the great hardware stability of sony's lasers. (JK!)
how would you burn a Game to the HDD ?
There is a program you would load onto the HD that will allow it to load games onto the HD. It is called HD Loader.

But you know what is funny. There is a federal law that states that you are allowed to own backup copies of any software that you own as long as you don't make copies for sell. I.E. any DVDs, Games, Music, or any other media that you own that is considered to multimedia you may own a back up. So, if you save games to the HD all you are doing is creating your back up as long as you own the game you are copying.
