Homemade repair for analog pads?

All of my controllers have been getting rubbed away, and I dislike using its innermost core: plastic. Especially in mw2, accuracy is key, so I was wondering how do you guys fix your analog pads instead of buying new pads, or a new controller?

I bought a controller shell off ebay recently for about $15 shipped. Came with new analogs and the it actually has a better d-pad than the original shell. They come in different colors, made my old controller feel like new. You need the torx screwdriver, which will only run $3 if you don't have one already.

You can get replacement sticks. Granted, they are overpriced (IMO). About $10 for a new set.

Or, there are FPS Freeks that snap on top, and extend the stick about 1/2". I use one of these on the right (aiming) stick and love it. It does seem to make aiming more accurate for me http://www.kontrolfreek.com/Game-Controller-Accessories/KontrolFreek-FPS-Freek.asp

I suppose if you have several controllers to do , are a bit of a DIY kinda person, you could pick up a can of plasti-dip spray (rubberized coating similar to analog sticks; used a lot on wrench handles, etc) http://garage-toys.com/plspbl.html

Option 1 and 4 require you to open the controller with the proper torx security bit. Well, i suppose if you were super careful, you could mask off everything except the sticks to paint the coating on.

My left stick is getting close to needing repairs as well. (the right was too, but I have a FPS Freek snapped onto that now).

If you have a torq bit, you can open it easily and switch them out. Personally, I play better with these. I tried my friends controller with the original sticks and it's just not the same anymore.
