Hooking up Xbox Hard Drive to PC for backup

Ok to clarify, I am not doing this for hacking/modding purposes, Im just cheap and don't want to buy a hard drive transfer cable. I have hooked up my current xbox hard drive to my pc via sata cables with the purpose of backing up the data and then hooking up my new one to transfer the data to. I have heard the Xport360 is the best program however when it tries to connect it says could not find a "FATX" drive. Some help our alternative methods would be helpful!

How about using a thumb drive to transfer stuff? Or a usb external HD. Or you could just buy a used cable from gamestop and return in the 7 day window. That's what I did, the sales clerk even told me to do it that way.

i agree with majorsmeg, what your trying to do is way more hassle than the 15 bucks is worth lol
