Hori PS3 HD Monitor $99.99 free shipping at Newegg

Definitely a great price on it. I'm tempted. Not sure if I'd ever actually use it, but it's pretty cool. I've got one for the previous two Playstation slims so I probably should bite.
I needed this back when I was in the Navy and stuck on a ship for 6 months.
But

I know a lot of people might not care, but apparently this thing has no latency issues. Meaning you can play fighters and shmups on it without worry about delay.

Does anyone know if this could also be used to play the Wii? I noticed it has the composite (red, white, and yellow) video connections on back and was wondering if that means it could double for a small monitor that can play both PS3 and Wii games? I would've never considered it before, but this price is pretty good though, especially with free shipping and no tax (for most states).

Don't see why not, it's just shaped to fit the slim. As long as you have somewhere to set it down that it won't look awkard or be unstable it should work.

Haven't tested it myself though so YMMV i guess.

Why not just buy a small tv? This thing is 11".... you can get a 15 or 17" tv for just a hair more.

Most of the people who could use something like this, buy gaming laptops to fill this niche. Although that is a whole lot more expensive than buying a console with a mini-screen.

Would have been great if it was component inputs on exterior of the monitor instead of composite inputs.

If I didn't have an HD monitor already, I'd probably get this as a cheap HD monitor for the portability.

Thanks for the feedback, Fuji. One last question though - is there any way the HDMI out here can be used for a 360 instead of a PS3? If so, that'd be pretty awesome to have that type of versatility, but if not, just having it be Wii/pS3 compatible is pretty sweet in its own right. Damn this wonderful price!

Does anyone know if you can invert the screen on this thing. Reason being, im on a submarine and would love to put this in my rack taped to the roof of my rack and be able to flip it down and play it.

Hmm, the Hori screen plummeted in price not long after it came out.

Wasn't it only recently (a month or two back) announced at 399? or 299?

Hope its just my ever so cautious nature, but the product itself seems god-sent for anyone in the military or just have a strong game craving when traveling.

Not really. You can get a very capable Alienware M11X for $550 new. PS3 ($300) + Hori Screen ($100) = $400, only $150 less than a laptop that can do so much more. Keep in mind that the laptop includes a battery and can be played on the go, has a size/weight advantage, and can do more than just play games (Linux can no longer be loaded on PS3, thanks Sony, that was a DB move).

As for this screen, I have never understood why anyone would buy something like this. That Hori seems to think there is still a market for such a product is evidence that there is either something wrong with American consumerism or Hori's management team (likely a mix of the two). IMO, the only purpose these console LCD screens have ever served is for modders to make handheld versions of the system.

Can the m11x play Uncharted 3?
I wonder if I could get away with playing it at work...nobody comes in on Fridays, and then there's my hour lunch.
There nothing greater than playing video games at the office. I have a PS2 hiding on my top shelf, connected though a Composite cable to my monitor (my monitor allows an RGB connection directly, so no need for fancy adapters). I play everyday on my lunch break and before work if I get early.

Of course it helps that my cubicle is in a corner with no one around :)

My wife bought me this for Christmas and I play at work now all the time! You can also put it in your lap if you are close enough to an outlet. The slim doesn't get very warm and it's not as heavy as I thought.

It's actually not an hdmi cable. It goes into the av port like component cables. Oddly enough it can still output 1080p.

You can't.

I can see why some people would ask "why?" but for a small percentage of us that transport our PS3 frequently, this looks amazing. I work 3rd shift and once our paperwork is done we are free to game. I've been using a 21" Dell monitor but it becomes a pain bringing it in every night. If this would fit in my PS3 bag with the system when attached, it would be great!

Does anyone here have one of these? Without being able to see it in person, my questions would be:
1. How are the speakers? I know they won't be earth shattering but are they decent enough?
2. How well does it attach to the PS3 Slim? Is it a pretty sturdy design or is it usual flimsy third party crap.
3. How much more size does it add to the system when attached? I use one of those official PS3 backpacks to transfer the PS3. Would it fit in the slot with the screen on it?
4. How is the picture quality?

Ok, I'm out of questions. Thanks to anyone that might be able to provide answers.

Kotaku did a video review on it that you may want to check out. I don't have one myself, but it looked very impressive, and the sound wasn't too bad either. It seems to add about an inch and a half of thickness, and looks very well built.

Initially, I was suspicious of the fact that it was Hori, a company that doesn't really make monitors, but this looks solid. Hori makes very good fighting sticks, so I guess the quality of this product isn't completely surprising!

Man, I wish I saw this thread earlier. Not gonna drop $250 on this, but I will be looking for the next deal.

I love my Hori LCD I got last year. Displays in 720p, has excellent speakers, and two headphone jacks especially for fighters. Several games were completed in due time because of this wonderful device!
I realize this thread is long dead, but I don't suppose there's anyone who's looking to get rid of theirs?
Asshat...
That's what she said!
:applause:

Id get this if it wasnt for the 7ms refresh rate. After playing on an Asus vh236 (2ms) I seriously cant game on anything worse. 5ms is pushing it. I cant get used to the input lag.

edit: just read some of the other posts, people should be banned for doing this

Because it's ONLY a year old, and not even locked, and I can't find a retailer for even a used one anywhere. Also, since an updated version with HDMI was released in July, it seem like there might be some people willing to get rid of their older versions.

Using torrents has given me a twisted sense of how long things are still relevant. Even non-porn torrents are fair game at a year old. (Naturally, porn torrents are immortal.)
