Hori screen protector residue?
How do they put stress on the upper screen?
i'll try to take a picture of what i'm talking about because i don't think i can explain it well without it sounding like it's destroying my ds.

the upper screen on the ds lite is a bit flexible compared with the bottom screen. when i put my screen protector on it, each individual part of the protector is latched on to a particular part of the screen. it doesn't bend or shift if the screen bends. so the protector has alot of stress in the very middle of itself, and kinda pulls the screen into the center. it looks like a finger depressed in the center.

it's pretty tiny, and doesn't do any permanent damage to the screen.. for a while i would lift up the protector to releave the tension, but i stopped doing that a while ago.

this also happens with another screen protector i purchased..

anywho .. i'll try to take a picture of what i'm talking about to help illustrate this. I've got a japanese ds lite, so they may have reenforced the upper screen for the US release. :shrugs:

is anyone actually using these screen protectors and can provide a mini-review. i keep reading mixed reviews that contradict each other.

i ordered these from play-asia.com

I'm using the Hori DSL protectors right now and they work really well. It makes the backlight a bit weaker but you can hardly tell. If you get dust stuck under the protector you're screwed until you take it off and buy another one.

I just picked one up at the Fry's in Campbell for DS-Lite, but I'm totally confused on the instructions.

The smaller one should go on the top screen, and the larger one on the bottom screen right? I think they made a huge typo in their instructions, because it says to put the large one on the top, and the small one on the touch screen!

They repeat the typo like 3 times, so I'm really worried that they might mean it.

Only problem with doing it their way is they don't fit!

Anyone know FOR SURE which screen gets the red tab + round tab, and which screen gets the white tab + oversided tab? :(

I'm pretty sure the larger one goes on the top screen. The smaller one goes on the touch screen, just be sure to CENTER it though since it will not fit the entire screen.

Oh lame, so the bottom one doesn't lay precisely into the socket? That's going to suck for games where I need to drag the touch screen along the very edge.

Secondly, how does the top protector even fit into the top LCD area, when only part of it is in contact with smaller screen? There would be a huge pocket of air all the way around, as it touches the outer plastic frame which sticks out....

edit: OMG, how could I go that long without noticing I was holding my DS-lite upside down...

From what i have heard there are a bunch of fake hori screen protectors floating around on ebay, so if you ordered your protectors from ebay beware as pretty much all of them are fake. This could be where the rumors about goo and sticky stuff came from.

I'm sorry, but that's gold.

I also ordered the DS Lite Hori protectors from Play-Asia and love them. They go on like a sheet of glass, and no reisue, gunk or goo left behind. Although I wish it came with a free removal kit, it's tedious to painstakingly lift the touch screen protector off. Anyone have tips?

Hi guys.
I hope that my post isn't counted as reviving the old thread.

I'm the same guy who posted at play-asia (PrTv) and state that this product leaves the RESIDUE on the screen when it is removed.

I'm here to reaffirm it again that all the things which I've posted there are true.

But before I get into the details, I have a story to tell.

I bought my DSL and Hori screen protector (lite version) in the first week when it was released. And when I tried applying it, I noticed that the screen protector left some residue on my DSL's touch screen when it was removed. And this thing was EXTREMELY HARD to get rid.

This residue was only seen when the screen protector was removed, but when it was put on, the residue was disappear (it was still there but applying the protector made it invisible).
Now it has been like 6 months since I have it installed on my system.

The interesting thing is that yesterday I went to the gamestore near my place to have the guy there applied the screen protector to my friend's dsl. When asked if he had other brand besides Hori since I had a bad experience with it, he told me that he only had Hori and told me it's the best screen protector out there. I told him about my story; he was quite surprised telling me that he has never seen that before.

I told him to apply it to my friend's system but I won't pay the money if it left any residue on the screen. He agreed and did his work, when done, he removed it and I CAN'T SEE ANY RESIDUE on the screen!!!

I didn't know why I had this problem but my friend didn't, and the guy at the store had no idea either.

Anyway I bought one for my system hoping that it will work as good as my friend's, but I have yet to apply mine since I'm not sure if I can remove all the residue left after I remove my old one (I still use the old one).

P.s. After I compared my old one's package with my new one, I found that there is a little different in the text on the cover plastic.

Here it is.
The old one (took this picture long time ago before I applied it).

The new one (up until now, I haven't applied it yet).

Besides this difference, everything is exactly the same.

Please note that I'm 100% sure that both my old and new one are the authentic Hori's product, since I bought it from the respectable store and I did check with Hori (I emailed them and they said that mine is authentic but they didn't have any comment about the asked residue problem).

My assumption is that maybe my old one is the defective product since I bought it long time ago (at the same time when DSL had just been released). Now the new one is just laying next to me but I dare not to install in yet. :hot:

I couldn't for the life of my get the top screen of my Hori protector to go on smoothly without bubbles. I probably applied and removed it about 50 times. It only took me one try for the bottom screen. I can assure you that it leaves no residue.
