HorrorFest Movies!!! Any Reviews???

Merboy007

CAGiversary!
I was just wondering if anyone see any of the 7 HorrorFest Movies that came out on DVD today. Are they worth the purchase to buy as a complete set or just individuals???

Thanx

I saw Dark Ride & Ressurection.

Dark Ride is a average horror movie with Isabella Soprano (Jamie Lynn Sigler) her husband is the director, and that fat kid from the Sandlot. Good kills, but nothing major.

Reincarnation is a subtitled thriller Japanese movie. I never watch subtitled movies, and it's easy to follow, and it's a great thriller not really horror. I know this will get remade in America and completely ruined, like Ju-On was turned into The Ring.

I would say pick up Reincarnation, so you can see the source material for a eventual US remake.

Hamiltons was interesting although its been done before but not in that setting.

Gravedancers was a pretty good ghost story.

Well I just bought all 7 for $60 (money that I should'nt have spent) @ Best Buy. Someone at the store told me that they were really good. I just figured to buy it now before the set goes up tp $165 by next week.
Arn't there like really 8 movies ? Why didn't they release all 8?
the 8th movie was put back in theathers last month. dont expect it out on dvd until summer probally

why would the set go to 165. Normal price is 15 each. 15x 7 = 105 tops. none of the movies were that good so dont expect them to become collectors items

UMMMMM where was good kills???? i thought the movie was lame and boring. Was done so many times before and it was nothing more then a RIP OFF OF CLOWNHOUSE

clownhouse was a better show if you ask me

Actually I believe there were 9 movies. Because Snoop Dogs Hood of Horror was one of them that was playing at the fest.

Just watched The Hamiltons and Reincarnation and was disappointed by both, but Reincarnation was the better of the two.

I just don't understand the whole " too scary" concept of the Horrorfest. Both these movies were mediocre at best.

it was too scary for most people to understand that they just wasted 10 bucks on each of these movies if they saw them in the theathers LOL

any SAW movie was 100x scarier then any of these movies

This series has weak-as-hell written all over it, no offense to whoever, they basically took most of these movies and credited them as their own creations, when they were in fact, mostly just films that had been yet to find an american distributor, take Reincarnation, it was the third in a series of J-horror films, preceded by Infection and Premonition, both which Lion's Gate released. It just seems like they're mixing the good with the bad, the awful with the god awful, for the sake of marketing this as a prominent series, I don't know, just a thought, buy it at your own risk, 8 something a pop isn't too bad at Best Buy if you buy them all, could always sell the terrible ones and keep your preferred ones. Maybe they'll all be good....... LOL

was premonitoin the movie were the newspaper would tell stuff that hasnt happened yet. movie starts out where the father finds the paper in a phone booth and his kid gets killed when a semi or something hits the car and it exlplodes. Infection was a werid show (seen both of them on showtime but never really watched them to the end) DVR allowed me to FAST FORWARD THE MOVIES LOL

UPDATE: I just finished watching 2.
*NO SPOILERS ONLY OPINIONS*
1st Movie was: "Penny Dreadful" personally this one scared the hell out of me. especially since it has a more realistic scenerio i.e. involving a "Hitchicker". The director totally exploited people's (including myself) fears of being stranded in a dark road in a broken down car in the middle of nowhere.
VERDICT: Highly recommanded!!!
2nd Movie was: "The Grave Dancers" personally, this is like watching a long episode of "Supernatural". With that said it all depends on if you like that show/genre or not. The make-up on the ghosts is the only thing worth the view/purchase.
VERDICT: Rental!!! Buy it when it goes for $9.99.

These movies are all $8.50 at Best Buy. I just bought them all.

I'm not poking fun but your typos make awesome sounding words.

Scenerio, hitchicker, and recommanded are all words that need to work their way into my lexicon. Like, a wife-beater could be a hit-chicker and a poorly respected leader may have to recommand people to do things all the time!

Again, not making fun. Just having fun. :D

LOL not offended at all. but a bit amused. :) Thats what happens when watching TV and typing at the same time. I could correct them but nah you seem to enjoy the typos too much.

I bet there will be another box set released with the 8th movie in it... for those extremely anal collectors out there who must own the best of everything.

I saw the box set yesterday. It's funny to me that I can get all 7 released titles for $60 at BestBuy; or for $100 more get the same titles boxed in the same cases MINUS the sleeves they came in, and with no additional content. They aren't even really a series of movies, per se. Sounds like a killer deal.

You can find reviews of most if not all of them at bloody-disgusting.com. At least those reviews are from horror fans, and so the movies are compared to other horror movies.

Damn!!! I'm at work right now and unable to go to that site since its contents are restricted. Can someone copy and paste the reviews.

Actually Ju-On was The Grudge and Ringu was The Ring. :D

I heard The Hamiltons was good, I'm stoked about that.

The post would be huge, so here's the overall ratings Bloody Disgusting gave each movie.

Penny Dreadful: 2.5/5
Gravedancers: 4/5 (DVDtalk also gave the movie the same score)
The Hamiltons: 3.5/5
Reincarnation: 3.5/5
Unrest: 4/5
Dark Ride: 2/5
Wicked Little Things: 2.5/5

Wow, they gave "Penny Dreadful" only 2.5 out of a 5!!! I enjoyed the hell out of that one. I would grade "Gravedancers" 2.5 instead of a 4.

Theres more then just 8 movies. Theres 9 and one of them is The Tripper And it will be released in June. The other 2 are The Abandoned and Snoops Hood of Horror. You can see the list http://www.horrorfestonline.com/film1.html I am actually tempted to go and pickup this deal at best buy because Amazon has them on sale for 104.99 with the regular price being 139.86.

I picked up the whole set at BB and had a $5 RZ certificate so they all came out to about $7.80 ea.

So far I've watched Gravedancers and The Hamiltons and both were watchable. Were they the best? No, but for a $7.80 movie so far I'm satisfied.

The Abandoned will be comming out in June and will have the same box art ( Horrorfest border ).
i have blockbuster pass. It's time to rent them all & burn them all on DVD for future view, lolz :)
good luck finding them at blockbuster. Ours locally only had 4 out of the 7

No
dark ride
ham something
penny something

you would think they would break up the sets but they didnt. For some reason every blockbuster around here only got the 4. ALso good luck finding them cause most people picked them up on tuesday so 99% chance you wont find them this weekend.

with instore and blockbuster online the only one im missing is the Penny one

I'll probably pick up these movies very soon. Which ones are the ghost movies? I don't want those ones...
Actually I believe there were 9 movies. Because Snoop Dogs Hood of Horror was one of them that was playing at the fest.
I count 10. Isn't The Tripper one? It's on the horrorfest list on Bloody-Disgusting.com.

*Edit*

Oh nevermind. Apparently thats a very limited release. "One weekend only: November 17-19." It's not even out yet.

Dunno, WalMart has em 14$ each... (I'd own all of them if BestBuy wasn't an hour away) so I grabbed Hamiltons and Reincarnation. I'll get the rest when I have adequate funds.

Ju-On was remade as the Grudge here chief, Ringu was the source material for the Ring.

I wonder if blockbuster online has these?

Um, I hate to break this to you but Isabella Soprano isn't a character from the hit HBO show. The daughter is Meadow Soprano. I googled Isabella Soprano...dude um, she's a porn star.

So which version of the Sopranos are you watching Lancejr? :D

They had copies of most in the store wednesday, so I'd guess yes.

The ironic thing is after reading the wiki entry it seems as though she's on some HBO series, perhaps he's just getting his late night HBO viewing mixed up...

She was on the first season of "Cathouse."

Trust me. :bouncy:

Dark ride___ lame movie just a rip off of CLownhouse
Ressurection---- Turned it off 5 mins into it . hated Subtitle movies
Gravedancers ----- Best film out of all of them BEst fx
wicked little things---- boring movie way too dark to see what is going on
Unrest----- another boring one
Hamiltons----- Looks like it only cost 50 bucks to make very boring
Penny???_ havent seen yet cant find anyplace

Gravedancers was the best of the 6 but none of them are worth buying . I would been totally pissed if i went and paid 10 bucks to see any of them when the thing was going on in the theathers last nov. and REALLY REALLY pissed about Ressurection.

I personally thought The Hamiltons was a fairly decent flick. It wasn't really well acted and it certainly didn't have a high budget, but it kept me entertained. The "Lenny" twist at the end, though, was unarguably stupid.
:wall:
well after watching 2 or 3 subtittle movies this week didnt feel like another. I doesnt go back till Monday so maybe i give it a chance (i was scanning though it last night and really didnt like what i saw of it)

EVIL (a 28 days later rip off) was one of the subtitle movies i watched weds (i think it came from russia??)

i thought lenny was a monster type creature.

UPDATE: I Saw 2 more this past weekend:
1st: "Dark Ride" Not really a bad movie, but definitely a rental. Purchase it only if it's under $9.99.
2nd: "Wicked Little Things" I liked this one, my only problem is that certain scenes were too damn dark!!! Reminds me of how dark the "Hulk" movie was when he is fighting the two headed dogs.

these movies seriously are terrible!
I've seen darkride, wicked little things, gravedancers... gravedancers was best but they were all crap!
