Thought it was a good deal on a good tv.
Resolution: 1024x768

good or bad?
That's a 4:3 resolution but the specs say the TV is 16:9... odd.

Keep in mind Plasma's have a problem with burn in I believe.

So if you are getting it for gaming make sure the game takes up the whole screen otherwise you'll get black bars burned in.

This is false. The first plasmas suffered from this and the reputation has been with them ever since. It hasn't been an issue for over 3 years and new plasmas are reeally no more susceptible to burn-in than a regular CRT is. I've been doing ALL my gaming on a plasma TV for a long time and there isn't a hint of burn-in and I play all types of games with static images. Plasmas are great for gaming (and everything else).

Ok then

IIRC, it's because it has slightly rectangular pixels that are a little bit longer from side to side then they are from top to bottom.

Wouldn't that just stretch all of the 4:3 images then? How would you watch something in 16:9 if there were only enough pixels for a 4:3 image (stretched or not)?

This is false. At work we just had another Plasma get a burned in image on it. It was a 42" New Samsung and someone left the onscreen menu on for about an hour or so. Now there is a permenant outline of the onscreen menu :D

Same thing also happened before with a Sylvania 42"Plasma when someone left the DVD layer menu on it.

good or bad?
mostly all hdtv plasama are this resolution. very few are true 1080p (1920 x 1080). the ones that are are generaly 50+ inchess and can easily run over $3,0000 if shopping around

Are you sure your job was not bargaining and brought an older model to save money? Cause the plasma i have has been left on over night before with no damage

It was actually the newer Samsung Models. The link Karuto posted to NewEgg is the exact same TV. Ours are manufactored I believe in May 07.

the panasoncic tv that i provided a link to was once on newegg.com and it received slightly higher reviews. all 5's from six different users with liltle or no cons

1024x768 is below 720p(1280x720) which is High Definition so the TV is not really hi-def. That being said, many would say that even though they usually a lower resolution, the high contrast ratio makes plasmas have better pictures then 720p/1080p LCD's. On this set you would still be able to view high def stuff but it would be downscaled a bit. Of course you can get a plasma with 720p and that way get the best of both worlds but they're pretty pricey:cool:
