Anyone know of any hotels that will allow an 18 year old to make reservations?

No, it's not for what most of you probably think it is. I'm considering making a road trip to Philly from Alabama (about a 20 hour drive), and I was hoping to break it down into 2 days and stay in a hotel overnight midway which would be somewhere near Durham, NC.

I do know there are hotels that will allow 18 year olds to make reservations, but I don't know which ones they are.

I was for all intents and purposes a GM of a Comfort Inn for a short stint of time and I can assure you that you would not be able to get a room there. You have to be 21. Maybe other Comfort Inns are more relaxed about these rules but I dont know. I know one thing that will definitely help your chances (and its something you wont want to hear) but dont make reservations. Most hotels dont rent rooms to people under 21 cause of liability issues. They're afraid people will use them to drink in or have parties in or whatever. If its just you, a weary traveler, stopping mid journey, I'm sure a hotel wouldnt have quite a problem letting you stay.

Yeah, that's what I'd end up doing. I wouldn't even know which city I'd be stopping at. It would just get to a point where I'd want to stop for the night, and pick the next hotel. I was looking at Holiday Inn's policy, and they said that although individual hotels' age requirement varies, most require 21.

You might call a few and ask if having the room under your parents name and credit card would make a difference. I'm sure in some cases their main concern is having someone to bill for any damage to the room.

There's no way that the person behind the counter is going to turn you away if you show up late at night lookin for a room.

Reservations would be your downfall.

It's easier to get forgivness that it is to get permission.

I booked a room online when I was 18 and didn't have any problems with it, they took away the pay-per-view porn tho, jerks. This was at Amerisuites though.

Haha, you're finally legally old enough to view porn and they take it away.

I would do what every one is saying. Just when you get tired stop. When I went on a trip upstate with my friends we were all 18 and they let us have a room. I think it was a comfort inn. If you get turned down by a major hotel chain. I would just find a local motel or the one hookers and johns use. They won't turn you down.

They should use that in advertising: "If you get turned down by a major hotel chain, come to us. 9 out of 10 hookers and Johns prefer us over any other hotel chain. Just don't touch the beds... sleep in the bathtub."

I was qctually by one of those hotels in a shady part of town, it had a neon "HOTEL" sign, but it was broken so the only letters lit were "HO" wish I got a picture.

I was stuck in Ft. Lauderdale once when I was 18, I missed my connection or something, and the next flight wasnt until the next day... I had a taxi take me to a hotel I'd been to many times with my folks, but they totally shut me down. I was feeling despair, as outside of the hotel was pretty dark and uninviting, but I hit the road with my back pack and carry on in the middle of the night, running across freeway to freeway getting shut down, but I eventually was able to talk to a manager of a hotel, who I assured I wasn't partying (he was skeptical even looking at my airline tags on my baggage) and paid him cash, and was finally in a room. I totally thought I'd be sleeping under a bridge, which I regret not doing on account of how great a story It'd be to tell.

Or, make reservations online. If you do that, they don't ask for your age. Then, you can show up, say you have a reservation, and say look pricks, you already gave me a room, it's late, let me stay. Of course, you have to have a credit card. If you have one, they won't turn you away no matter what age you are.

Or, there's one more thing you could do. Call, reserve the room w/ a credit card and say the reservation is for your boss/parent/some authority figure and then show up and check in. They usually won't say anything then.

Don't make a reseravation under someone else's name and show up! It might work half the time but the other half you'll be kicked out of the hotel and you'll be out of your money! Making a reservation under false pretenses is FRAUD! I agree with everyone on showing up and making a reservation when you're tired. Just make sure you're not so tired you coudn't drive a little while longer to find another hotel.

If you have a credit card, chances are you can get a room. Most of the places I've stayed (including the resort I work for), do not ask for a photo ID at check in, but just a credit card.

I work for a Holiday Inn, and when you make a reservation, they don't ask your age at all. And, you'll get a better price. If you just stop. most hotels will charge young people more, because they're usually a problem. We may charge $65 for a reservation, but charge an 18 y/o $79 if they walk in.....plus 15% in taxes on top of that.

I'm not saying to make the reservation under someone else's name, but your OWN name, using your OWN credit card. As far as the boss comment, well, that's to imply that you're older than you are, but I'm not saying to make the reservation under his name either. I do not encourage Fraud.

i agree completely with James and Diiz

Sorry brother. I misunderstood your post, but it's easy to see how the OP would've gone down the same road. I'd hate to turn on CNN and see some kid being led out of a hotel saying "CAG made me do it". I know, that's being dramatic but it's the image that popped in my head when I saw your post. I agree with you guys on the credit card though. They usually just ask for the credit card you made a reservation with.

You should be able to get a room without trouble.

The only times that hotel staff crack down on young kids is during prom season, and of course... you know why. ;)

Thanks guys. I'll probably end up just making reservations online. A credit card isn't a problem, I can steal my parents before I go. No, I'm just kidding about that. I've got a couple of credit cards (well, debit cards, but they're accepted the same as credit cards). Two different Visas and two differet Mastercards and plenty of funds, so that won't be a problem.

i remember getting a hotel room way back in the early 90s when i was only 15,, really cant go into detail :) man those were the days : )

There are alot of situations where a few idiots (partiers and fuckers) ruin it for people who would use the room responsibly or at least use protection or nor drink

I stayed at a Comfort Inn with some friends on a roadtrip when i was 19. Just gave them my credit card, they didnt even ask for ID.
