House of the Dead 2 & 3, Out Now! Let's Shoot Zombies!

um yea if sega feels like putting the effort porting HotD1. The Saturn version is probably hard to port but the windows version would be easy. There were even rumors that Sega was going to include HotD1 on the Dreamcast version of HotD2, but had to cut that out in order to meet deadline. With Ghost Squad you can at least make a point saying that it never had a console release, even though the game was out for a few years in the arcade.
This is a minimal effort port as pointed out in the review. They made a excellent point that HotD1 was never ported to a console and would take extra work. I think its a fair price point for two games as Ghost Squad came out at the same price and is only one game which is significantly shorter even with all the extras.

HotD4 would no way be included, it would not fit on the disc. The game is in HD and suposedly Sega's new arcade boards are built/based on the 360. 4 would have to be totally remade for the Wii but it was be risky to waste the resources without testing the waters. Now if 2/3 Returns sold a whole lot, then I could see Sega going for it.
I'm getting nitpicky, but I'm pretty sure that the Lindbergh arcade hardware that HOTD4 runs on is based on the PS3's architecture.

But it is objective fact that putting HOTD4 on the Wii would be a waste.

Point Blank on the Wii is an outstanding idea. My ps1 copy skips and stutters pretty badly. I'd also take an Area 51/Maximum Force combo like they had in the arcades, it was a guilty pleasure of mine.

I really like how the Wii has brought back light gun games that can play on non-tube TVs. I've got the PerfectShot and the Brando 2 in 1, stuff like Ghost Squad is a blast. Hopefully the sales of HotD can justify more of these arcade ports.

In Japan there is a point black 1-3 + Time Crisis on 1 disc for PS2. Very fun to play with GunCon 2.

Huh? How so? I'd buy it. And I count as much as about 500,000 normal purchases.

That would make an excellent Wii port.

'casue that wii aint got no HD GHAMEZ.
Well now that the PS3 has the GunCon3, it wouldn't be a bad idea for Sega to put 4 over there. According to Sega, its easier to port Lindbergh games over to the PS3.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sega_Lindbergh
Nah that's crap the gpu difference is less of a factor because of their pc roots. Ati and Nvidia both work with similar instructions because they were designed with direct x and open gl in mind.

Now the cpu difference and memory is the larger issue. The ps3 version of Vf5 needed a long install to compensate for its memory architecture. I think everyone knows how complicated it is to port over single threaded x86 code to the multi spu cell. The tri-cored 360 is a closer match.

Vf5 got a 360 port that was more polished than the ps3's

Heck sega is popping out wii ports from xbox hardware like its nothing, so pc hardware is where its at for porting in general. But easier to ps3 ha.

That makes sense, but I still don't see how it "objectively" doesn't make sense to make a port of HotD4 for Wii if it will sell (of course dependent on 2&3's sales) unless it is technically impossible, which doesn't seem to be the case. Yes, it might have to be scaled back or changed in some areas, but that's what ports are.

I guess at this point I don't really care one way or the other if it comes to the Wii, as long as there is a steady flow of decent shooting games, especially arcade-style ones.

Except for me, apparently.
So anyone pick it up yet? Thoughts?
I added the Metacritic link to the OP:
http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/wii/houseofthedead2and3return?q=house dead

Mine isn't expected to arrive until next week apparently. Oh well; I just checked Target today and they didn't have any, and a bunch of stores yesterday with nothing. For some reason, Best Buy removed it from their website (it shows backordered), but you can still check stock here:

Although I'm happy that the wii is bringing out back "rail shooters". Since as a kid for Hotd 1 and time crisis 1 was always pumping quarters into arcade machines.

So, ever since time crisis 1 ps1 and Hotd 1 came out on saturn it's always been such a money saver.

I played Hotd 4 at a Dave and Buster's it was around 5 dollars for playing the game!
It was fun but unlike a couple years ago arcades have become expensive!

I remember beating House of the Dead one with only one quarter...best achievement ever.

Now Ill get to relive that on HOTD2&3 by paying the low low price of $29.99

Hmmmmm, GIO says "Although having a reticle onscreen does take away from some of the fun and “skill” of a lightgun shooter"

So does that mean I cant remove it like in Ghost Squad?

I want the game but will only get it at TRU cause of my coupon and unused GC. If they end up not carying it, Ill have to pass till a price drop.

I picked it up. I'm loving it so far. Everything translated really well, and HotD3 especially holds up nicely.

Also someone asked in an earlier post about the retical. Yes, you can turn it off.
Now Ill get to relive that on HOTD2&3 by paying the low low price of $29.99
It looks pretty good, but running through both games at an hour and a half each for 30 bucks... i'm gonna pass till it drops.

played HotD2 w/ the perfect shot gun. it's pretty damn good. graphics aren't fully updated, but they look crisp in 480p at least.

although i'd say use the tip of your finger to pull the trigger rapidly. i tried going into it like i had an arcade gun or guncon, pulling with the middle section of my finger...the spring in the perfect shot made it tiring.

Anyone try it with the Zapper?

I'll probably pick it up over my Easter break (w00+ catholic college!) if I run into some extra cash.

I put my XBox copy with the light gun (madcatz blaster) on eBay and hope it sells for atleast $30 so I can buy this new, if not i'll pick up a used copy on eBay. I might have to look into the perfect shot thing to.

I caved and picked up the game with the perfect shot knockoff for 35 bucks at frys. The hotd3 port looks better than the screens suggest but not as good as the xbox version.
The only negative is that you have to stand back further and you cant change position or the aim will shift. Anyone know if adding more ir lights will increase accuracy or does wii only use 2.
Huh? How so? I'd buy it. And I count as much as about 500,000 normal purchases.
It would be a waste because the game would look like crap. HotD3 doesn't even look as good as the Xbox version. I can only imagine what HotD4 would look like.

picked it up today and its damn sweet with the wii blaster. Without the wii bladter it would just feel awkward. Hod3 rocks.

cheers,
mike
Wait a minute House of the Dead 1 was put out on the Saturn and Windows too. Back in 1996. Ign is totally wrong on that point!

http://www.amazon.com/The-House-of-..._7?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1205315077&sr=1-7

and the pc version!

http://www.amazon.com/Sega-85075-Ho..._4?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1205315077&sr=1-4

So overall IGN while I do like their reviews it seems they slacked big time and they didn't mention how the saturn port of house of the dead 1 was the first console port for the series!! Which means that porting HoTD 1 would be fairly easy to port over and personally besides the second game i love the first and typing of the dead the best.
I have HOTD 1 for the PC and trust me, no one wants it ported to the Wii. No one would want it -PERIOD. It's so choppy and blocky that it's hard to play, or even watch for more than 10 seconds.

I'm gonna get this eventually, but I'm not sure if I should pick this up or Umbrella Chronicles. Those who've played 'em, what would you suggest?

I like this better than Umbrella Chronicles. It's more of a traditional lightgun game, which is what I was looking for. UC is still good though. Especially if you're a RE fan.

My problem is UC is that its not so much of a pick up and play. Its slow and normal enemies feel strong. Its fun but its more RE than arcade-y and I think light gun games are more suitable arcade style.

I think I'll be picking this up and ghost squad at TRU this upcoming week because of the deal they are having (buy 1 get 20 off another title (must be over 19.99). That means $60 becomes $40 and totally worth it.

Actually not a bad deal at all.

I tried to get this game and Resident Evil UC today so I could get a price match but they didnt have any :(

I just ended up getting RE:UC instead. Looks like Ill wait for HOTD to drop in price.

i played umbrella and hotd-but on xbox
I enjoyed umbrella, but not all of the missions can be played co-op immediately, so I ended up downloading a game save to get around this, which defeated the purpose of leveling up and unlocking items
it took me about 10-12 hours to beat it, and the savegame file with everything maxed and unlocked was 30 hours

Thanks for the advice, all. I think I'll pick up HotD first, since while I love me some unlockables, I'm mainly looking for a fun co-op experience.

I bought this yesterday and cracked it open this morning. Although I've only played the arcade version of HOTD3 one time, it looks like it's an arcade perfect port - as is HOTD2. It looks great according to Wii standards, IMO.

My fears about the calibration were unfounded, as the 2 point calibration feature made accuracy in the game as accurate as any actual lightgun, if not better. I say better because I got further in both games on the first playthrough than I have ever gotten before in any other version.

I've no regrets for $30. Getting this with Ghost Squad or some other $29.99 game at the TRU $20 off sale is a no brainer.

Is Ghost squad better than this house of the dead package?
Lol, circuit city in my town is trying to sell ghost squad for 50 bucks.

My TRU didn't have HoD 2&3 yet. So I will hold off until I can get the buy 2 get $20 off. I'm not paying 30 for this, just like I haven't bought Ghost Squad for $30.

Will have to try and pick this up at TRU like you cheapwiigamer.

I never thought I'd have so many light-gun games in 2008.

Is this any more robust than Ghost Squad (aside ormt he fact that there's 2 games vs 1 :p)? Ghost Squad was fun, but didn't hold my attention for very long... I don't really want this unless there is more to it.

i went to best buy and got them to price match the Deal thats going on now at toys r us * they had the as on hand to see it was legit *
An i walked out of best buy with house of the dead 2/3 returns, along with zack and wiki, for around 41$ total. plus reward zone member points. woot.

im thinking about going back and picking up resident evil 4 wii edition, but cant think of another good 29.99$ game.

My Best Buy wouldn't price match it because it's not a price it's a deal so they just gave me crap. Should I try back another time or will it be store policy and I'll be shut out every time?
