House of the Dead 2 & 3, Out Now! Let's Shoot Zombies!
Wow, pretty awesome. I never thought of trying to PM that deal at Best Buy.
Yup, I did the same. The reward zone points were just icing on the cake.

I picked this up yesterday at best buy for 15 bucks! Apparently it was part of a 50% Wii game sale that particular store had so it wasn't nation wide.
For some reason calibrating the game using the zapper kept on screwing it up :whistle2:( What the hell!??!?!

This game is harder than TUC, but not better than TUC.

wow... I would have bitten on that... I'm guessing it's outa the way for me >_

Oh no, I am not going back there......manassas takes quite a while to get there and I don't want to waste gas stuck in traffic getting back.

Last night, I played Typing of the Dead with a friend and followed it up with HOTD2 and then 3 (and then Ghost Squad). It's interesting to see the progression - HOTD2 on Wii definitely looks much better than on Dreamcast. It's hard though - on our first run we got much farther into Typing than House. I was really impressed with how good HOTD3 looks, especially after playing HOTD2.

Which game is better out of HOTD 2 & 3 and Ghost Squad?

I got my hands on this. I found it a bit odd that you have to navigate the menu with the d-pad or control stick (zapper) and there wasn't a cool point and click menu. Pretty basic and barebones really. Games hold up great. My trigger finger got tired fast from playing remote only so I switched to the Zapper. I really need to get a pair of Perfect shots.

I think so far my favorite thing is that it lets you shoot off screen to reload like in the arcade. I hate "shaking the remote to reload" from RE:UC and Ghost Squad too I believe. You can shake to reload here too though for those who like it. I've only been playing without the crosshair and no complaints. Good buy here.

Edit - Oh cool I just noticed its actually just point off screen to reload.

Yup.

Is there no ability to save? Just play all the way through?
Yup.

Pretty sure it auto saves. The further I get the more starting lives/continues I get.

I'm highly satisfied with this game. I hope they put out a scaled down port of HotD4 on the wii! :bouncy:

After playing a bit more I found an odd quirk. If you hit 1 to skip the skippable scenes, it actually takes longer to load because it goes to a black screen instead of immediately skipping like in the arcades. Odd.

I also think HotD3 lost some of its magic from the arcade. I guess part of the fun was the fatigue of pumping the shotgun. Brings memories of me and my bro being exhausted after a playthrough
Which game is better out of HOTD 2 & 3 and Ghost Squad?
They're actually very different experiences. Ghost Squad is easier, much more accessible and has a lot of unlockables and wacky party modes. HOTD is more of a purist experience. It's probably a better game in terms of just staight play-through, but at least right now I'd probably be more inclined to recommend Ghost Squad to people. That's not to say that HOTD isn't really good, just that a wider range of people would appreciate Ghost Squad more.

My dream is that soon there will be enough light gun-style games that we can have a Light Gun Thread of Love discussing the merits and weaknesses of each.

We just got this tonight. fuck it, for $30 that's cheap. I hate paying full price for games.. but $30 for 2 games.. not bad.

Good game!..games. There really needs to be a whole lineup of these games. Why haven't they announced others? Doesn't Sega have a TON of these franchises?!

I mean, let's port a whole bunch of older games for the Wii..and charge them $30. That's fair, IMO. NOW, let's also make a whole bunch of NEW games..and say charge $40 for them.

When it's all said and done, and we are moving into the NEXT systems.. I don't want to have a Wii Zapper..and have 6 games, because that's all that came out :(

Don't worry about that, these things are cheap and easy (like Strell's Mom) to make, I'm sure we'll be seeing a ton of these from Sega and so forth.

One review I read was complaining about technical issues in HotD3 but this page makes no mention of them. What's the verdict? Does it run smooth or not?

Besides Virtua Cop, what other shooters does Sega have?

And no, I haven't noticed any technical issues in HotD3.

I got all the way up to the end boss in HotD3 last night, but then he killed me! I only used one continue to get that far, then I blew my whole load on him :[ (joke for lilboo).

What's the verdict on Ghost Squad vs. House of the Dead?
I would definitely get this if it came with Typing of the Dead and Typing of the Dead 2.
A sequel game, The Typing of the Dead II, was released in 2007. This version was a revision of The House of the Dead III, and has only been released in Japan as of 2008.[17][18] Sega has also announced production of English of the Dead, another revision of House of the Dead 2 for the Nintendo DS, designed as a language-learning game.[19]
Honestly, it's good to have both of them. I think Ghost Squad is really fun, but we all know how short it is. At least for $30 you are getting 2 games and several different game modes PER game. This is a sweet price for $30. Cheaper is always better, of course :).. but Ghost Squad is a much better game if you can get it for $20.

Theres a handful, they have potential to put all these out. Skimming through this list and picking out all the Sega stuff...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_light_gun_games#Arcade

-LA Machineguns / Gunblade New York
-Ocean Hunter
-Jurassic Park 1 & 2
-Confidental Mission
-Ghost Squad Evolution
-Lets Go Jungle
-Vampire Night (made with Namco, but def has a HotD/Sega feel)
-Virtual Cop 1-3

The company that really needs to pull the trigger (see what I did there?) is Namco because they have the most recognizable franchises that would sell easily. I wouldn't be mad if Capcom ported over a Gun Survivor collection either. Wii controls would be perfect for them.

Konami is putting out Target Terror, some game I've never heard of but looks horrible. They could easily port over a Silent Scope collection since it was already put out on Xbox. They have much better lightgun games than Target Terror, so I hope they aren't using that to gauge interest.

-Crypt Killer (this was fun even with the weird shaped gun)
-Evil Night
-Jurassic Park 3
-Lethal Enforcers 1 & 2
-Silent Hill Arcade
-Silent Scope 1-3
-Teraburst
-World Combat

Yes, Namco needs to port Point Blank. As I''ve said before, I'd rebuy it for the Wii and It makes perfect sense in the mad dash to make multiple minigame compilations for the Wii. They've done it for the DS, so it makes no sense NOT to release this for the Wii. The fact that it has skipped a hardware generation (in america, at least) means there's a completely new audience that has never seen it before.

Oh my God, the voice acting... it is incredible.

Rented this, finally got around to playing it a bit today. I'm not so good - died at the end of two different paths through Chapter 2 so far. I'm not thriled with the calibration since I can't seem to get it accurate enough that I don't need the crosshair... at which point it doesn't do any good.

I'm not a huge lightgun fan, so I'm just shopping around looking for one to spend money on. RE:UC was a bit slow for me, this one isn't bad. I'll have to get my hands on Ghost Squad soon. I've played that in the arcades, but not sure how fun the Wii port will be single player for the most part.

Just got this today (also got a perfect shot) from CC. It seems rather faithful form what I've played. My only problem is remembering to flick off screen rather than pumping the non-existant handle.

I also haven't been able to get past Chapter 2 yet. I need unlimited continues.

I think my brother might be coming home this weekend, so I might be able to get further with 2 players.

just keep going through it, i'm at about 5 lives 8 credits right now, i can make it to the ch 5 boss, but holy goomba that boss is cheap, like gill from third strike cheap

Picked this up off Amazon. Really fun game and something my gf is actually interested in playing.

A few nitpicks:
- hold B to shoot with Z...what? (zapper)
- not sure if there is a bonus for shooting without crosshair
- no online rankings like Ghost Squad

Overall, I'd put this a bit behind Ghost Squad, though the existence of zombies already makes it awesome. Bring on HotD1,4, and Typing!

Just picked this up today...with two Nyko Perfect Shots. Holy hell, that's fun. I thought I'd have trouble tracking two (or more) independant targets with each hand...but I did pretty well. I'm gonna need to practice some more, though.

Favorite move so far:
Three targets attacking, one on each side, one in the middle. Fire both hands at their respective side, converge in the middle, and then throw both hands out to reload.

And I'm about 100% sure I don't look nearly as cool as I feel while doing so.

I pulled the trigger on this (bad pun intended) and got it from amazon. How is it playing with the wiimote instead of a true light gun? I would imagine that the wiimote would be less accurate. Is this the case?

I've only played HoD3, but it seems damn acurate with the perfect shot, minus the shotgun pump of course.

I look even less cool with a Perfect Shot and Zapper combo. But it sure is fun.

I've been meaning to pick this up, but I have a question first.

I already own HOTD2 and HOTD2/3 on DC and Xbox respectively, both with 2 guns and both still hooked up.

Is there really that much of a benefit/difference that makes it worth me spending the money on the Wii version?

I'll likely get it eventually anyway, I'm just curious how far it falls into the 'disposable income' category.

Probably not, unless you're like me and ignored all other consoles once you got taken with the Wii, but it doesn't sound like you have forsaken the other consoles. Yet.

Finally playing this game and I really hate it. Is there a code or something for unlimited continues? Ive beaten the stupid game and if I dont get infinite cont ala ghost squad, this game is shit for me. My hopes for Overkill are dead!
Keep dying in arcade mode, after you've lost about 10 times it should give you unlimited.
:???: Anyone confirm?

I saw codes on GameFaq but by going by the other codes, I think its all for the dreamcast maybe pc version.

So theres no way in this game to get unlimited continues? Wow, replay of this game has died for me....

I've got unlimited continues for HoD3.

I can take a pic for proof if you REALLY want me to.

Then again I had a friend with me while we got raped by the plant tentacle boss.

I am talking about HotD 2. Sorry, I think I even forgot to specify. So Im confused too, lol.

So HotD 2 DOES NOT have unlimited Continues? Is this confirmed?

HotD 3 DOES have unlimited continues? If so, how do you get them?

You dont have to post a pic Maig, just say what you did. If that losing 10 times or something was the answer; kinda explain that cause it made no sense to me.

Okay well this is what happened for me. I kept losing all my credits in HoDIII.

After a certain number of "losses" (as in game over) they give you access to more credits. I had thought the max # (9) was as much as I could get.

Me and my buddy were still unable to beat the last boss, after about the 5th or 6th failed attempt (read: game over) It told us we had access to unlimited continues.

Thats about as good as I can explain it.

Decided to give the game a shot again and finally beat HotD2 and got very easy option. Thats it. I also earned a machine gun.

Beat HotD3 on VERY HARD and that unlocked Free Play, unlimited continues. It was easy to do. First try also. I also unlokced a timed mode thats pretty tough. hotd3 is tons better than pt 2. That one is just annoying and sickening.

Thats all Ive been able to open. If anyone knows other stuff, let me know.

I got extreme mode for HoD3 after finishing it. You get a melee/block attack that works against bosses too and your reload time is almost HoD2 speed (read: instant)
