The image is hazy, your monitor isn't screwy. The chart shows averaged first-year Approval (yellow) and Disapproval (green) among whites for Presidents Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton, and Bush - and Obama on the far right. (safe to say Bush II is an outlier if it's just an average of first year in office).
 
I see a pattern. Americans don't like black presidents. Look at the graph. There were a lot of negatives with our first black president, Bill Clinton, too.

ZOMG all white people are racist, nobody white voted for Obama, only blacks voted for Obama even though whites are 79% of the country vs. 13% for blacks

ZOMG people who disagree with a black person are racist, never mind their policies or job approval ratings, I as a white person immediately hate a black person solely because they are black and even if he gave me a backrub I would still hate him but I would be more relaxed.

ZOMG how do you link job approval numbers to racism, how the fuck can a white person disagree with the policies of a black person and not be a racist? I could reach a conclusion of your poll that their are a lot of self-hating white people just like the ones who frequent this site, they are called far left liberals. Take a poll of blacks job approval rating for the prior presidents to be objective for once so I can instantly label them all racists to.

Anytime I see a thread as one-dimensional and generalized as this I just know who started it.

I agree myl0r I mean this IS one of the worst recessions in the US, and of course people are going to blame the government for not doing more.

Still, I'd be interested to know more about that blurry poll to know who conducted it, what questions were asked, etc.

Have you watched either of the Big 2 National News channels at all within the past year?

That argument always comes up, and I more or less completely disagree with it, or at least it can be negated by the fact that some people LOVE him for the exact same reason.

It's an illogical argument, and I have literally had someone directly tell me that I don't like Obama because I am racist, which I am not.

Yes there is racism but you can't make the connection that because a white person disapproves of the job a black person is doing, that makes them a racist. Please tell me who specifically was polled, what questions were asked, hopefully this isn't as scientific as "do you approve of Obama's job whitey", and how these conclusions were reached.

If this was a poll about his approval ratings and the questions were actually about what people thought about his work on major issues, then unless all those people made racist statements as they were answering the question, they were giving their opinion on the job he was doing, but obviously since all the people were white somebody had an agenda.

Don't let mykey think for you, he already made up his mind and he is just picking and choosing whatever crap he finds on the internet to convince others that he is right.

Rasmussen has an annoying habit of asking whether you merely approve/disapprove or really approve/dissapprove of Obama. I wonder what nudges one from regular dislike to really dislike and I really wouldn't be surprised if it was racism since a lot of people I talk to who have a visceral hatred of the guy literally cannot tell you why.
 
Low approval isn't the evidence for racism, it's the comparison with other approval ratings after the same length of time.

Regardless though, I dunno how accurately it could show any differences due to race considering current conditions (not that they were really his fault, but people are going to blame him). You'd have to compare with similar situations, there are just too many variables. It's not as easy to tell as racism in the tea party protests, all you had to do then was look at the signs.

I wouldn't doubt that race amplifies the negative effects of other things like the economy though, that's how it has worked in the studies that have been done looking for those effects. So yeah, if everything else was the same, but he was a white guy, I would guess his approval rating would be higher. But it's all just hypothetical at this point.

Actually you are a racist because you don't like Obama. Or you are just missing the entire point here.

Edit: Unless, of course, you can come up with some court-room caliber, non-racial, bullet proof arguments for why you don't like him that would convince even the biggest Obama fan....If you can't, accept your bigotry now.

The NYT was the source for the second image. I'll see if I can't find the source; but since I spent 16 hours in airports and autos today, you'll forgive me if I punt until tomorrow or Friday.
