would like to know and do u think an update or something can make it better

I would say its better than a cell phones browser because of quicker loading and obviously bigger screen but not as good as the wii browser. Because the wii mote makes navigating the screen easier but typing sux on wii mote. But than again who turns on their wii...
it is far from perfect a update would help.

It's pretty awful. We moved about four months ago and I dont have a laptop and since my PC was in storage, I had to use the PS3 for general internet browsing. It crashes a lot, takes a long time to load any page that has more than just text, and did I mention it crashes a lot?

I definitely wouldn't use it unless you really, really have to.

The PS3's internet browser is a horrible piece of crap that's prone to freezing often and is total junk.

But if you have no other options available to surf the net with, then it's only barely tolerable and only for short periods of time.

B.S.!!! The PS3 is my only option to surf the net, well..., was, since i recently got a laptop , but it's really not at bad as you say. The trick is to turn javascript off and everything is much faster and rarely freezes. Dont get me wrong, it could be better though.

I did have JS turned off when I was using the PS3's browser, but some pages just never load right with it off, so I'd turn it on and off constantly.

a piece of shit. They shouldn't have wasted money developing it. It shows Sony's knowledge with the PS3 and how they flubbed it at every end.
so when u think they will come out with a update for it
Probably never.

You know if you have a fat PS3 you could just put Linux on your system. Oh wait. Sony removed that due to eeeeeevil hackers who found an exploit through Linux.

The PS3....it only does "everything"(read: unless Sony feels you no longer need it or they need to cut something to be able to add it back in later at a cost to PS3 owners).

I've never had a problem with the PS3 internet browser. It doesn't really have the latest flash player so it runs into the occasional issue with video but otherwise I can't complain about it. Never had it freeze on me, unlike other people, the only downside is I can only have about 6 windows open or so the most.

its good for crunchyroll really good, aside from blocking alot of microsoft related sites its good, if only it could do hulu.com it would be better, so to me its about as good as the wii, have used both when my laptop was down and aside from not being able to download i was happy, and ive never had it freeze on me, the only time ive had issues was on my psp and it hates alot of sites

It used to do Hulu, until Hulu became assholes and blocked the PS3 browser.

yeah its back up and its called Hulu plus and it cost 10 a month

Use to be good for Hulu and YouTube, but now its worse due to site changes. Also it plays videos in the lowest quality on YouTube also.

The PS3's internet browser is definitely not up to par compared to what's out there now for smartphones and the like, but for light browsing, it's better than nothing. It's frozen up my system plenty of times, though, especially with JavaScript- or ad-heavy pages. I only bother to use it when my laptop isn't nearby and I just wanted to check something or do a search.

I could never get any modern web mail to work (i.e. Yahoo! Mail), Facebook doesn't always render correctly (granted, they change their site design every other week), pages sometimes just refuse to load even after clearing all windows and the caches, etc.

I think the last big update for it was to improve Flash video during full-screen playback, but it's still a version or two behind the current one, so not all video sites work. I've used it a few times for YouTube viewing but can't view any in HQ or HD as stated by someone earlier.

In short, the PS3's internet browser = meh. Could be better, of course, but at least it ain't worse. You know what's worse? The PSP's internet browser.

I have used it a lot and it only froze on me a few times out of hundreds. It's not as fast as a decent PC. Only problem I've had is that some videos don't show up. However, I did enjoy full screen Youtube from it on tv, which is easier than using my PC on tv. Another plus is that you don't have to worry about viruses on the PS3 browser. I'd rate it a 7.5 compared to PC being a 9.5
It's great for grabbing multimedia from the web. Just use bookmarks and it's not hard to use.
Any good sites you recommend?

It isn't bad for youtube. I enjoy watching "let's play" gameplay videos (which is kind of ironic, watching a playthrough of an N64 game using the web browser feature of a PS3)

Anything else it sucks.

I mostly used it for revision3 shows since they offered multiple formats so if one didn't work, there were alternates to try. The only weird thing about their site is that they are formatted weirdly, so I had to scroll a bit to find the download links. I tried GameTrailers once before finding that it didn't work that well, but maybe that has changed with revisions they've made to the site. I then also used it for podcasts, so I'd just go to their podcast page and download from there.

It would be great if Sony put an RSS reader on the XMB like they have on the PSP to streamline that stuff, as I'd prefer using that for video stuff since I stream those videos to my PS3 anyway.

The PS3's browser is really flipping bad. It doesn't even contend with my iphone and thats a cell phone. The PS3's browser is slow, bloated, and good for nothing.

You're wrong. So wrong. The browser is just as fast as any computer and its good for lots of things.

Another idiotic comment probably made by a spoiled 12 year old...LOL, im on my ps3 right now as a matter of fact. 99% of my posts were made from my ps3. Since PS3 came out i've been using it for everything. i recently got a laptop, but i'm still using my ps3 for browsing, its convenient. What people have to realize is that the PS3 is a gaming console, everything else is a plus.

I use the PS3 browser a lot. When my GF is on the computer, I just load up Youtube or Neogaf or whatever. Sucks that Hulu no longer works on the PS3 for free, but the PS3 web browser is good enough to do most of what i do. Plus 40 inch tv makes some of those animated gifs really enjoyable.

I only use it for 'spankwire.com'.... Streaming porn. And it works just fine. Sometimes will require a refresh deal to get the movie to play. Nto bad though really

Thanks, I hadn't hear of revision3 before.

Really? In what universe is it as fast as any computer and good for lots of things?

I tried surfing to CAG, YouTube and maybe 1-2 other sites while using the PS3 browser. CAG took 2-3 times reloading to load in right, YouTube rarely played the videos as smooth as my PC and the other sites were gimped without Javascript turned on.

I only read the thread title but I just wanted to answer by saying it fucking sucks compared to a normal browser. It's very pathetic and it needs worked on. I would only recommend it if you had absolutely no other way to be connected.

It's better than the Wii's browser, that's about all I can say about it.

It does work ok but it has issues running Java and sometimes struggles with flash video websites like YouTube and GameTrailers.

LOL, CAG loads for me in about 2-3 seconds....you practically have dialup, what do you expect?

Assuming I can find a cheap cable modem(now that the PC people at the flea market by us moved out:cry:) I might switch to cable internet soon, but I'm still not willing to pay over $20 a month for it.

Must be nice to live in a fantasy world. You ain't gonna find no good internet under $20 outside of a limited time promo.

Actually my one relative had Comcast's high speed internet promo($20 a month for 6 months, then $45 a month after) and they were supposed to cap his speed and let him keep the lowest speed they have available for $20, so I'd probably go with that.

Unlike many I don't need or want the super fast speeds since I don't use my PC for much outside of surfing to CAG and a few other sites or my PS3 for more than online multiplayer after beating the single player in most games.

If I lag in some games due to having 'Brazilian internet' or the games disconnect me, then oh well. But I'm not paying above $20 a month for my internet.

The way it is, I wish I could jack someone else's internet for free since even $20 a month seems a bit outrageous at times.

No way in hell is the PS3 browser as fast as a computer browser...Both my old ass laptop (a 3 gigahertz old AMD laptop chip) and my 3 year old tower (an old dual core laptop chip in a desktop with an intel GPU) are way faster for surfing the web than the PS3...and way more enjoyable to use. I tried checking my Gmail and facebook last month on my PS3 and it was a slow mess compared to my normal computers.

I've been posting here since 2004 no way in hell could I be 12 years old and be a poster on here from 2004...That would mean I've been posting here since my 6th or 5th birthday...I can see I'm dealing with a real intelligent chap. Speaking in terms of reason and with a lack of bias may be beyond your logic so I'll breaking it down as follows...

Lets see if you can follow me. By and by I'd have to say you both are acting like real fan boys trying to say the PS3's browser isn't heavily broken and flawed. There is no need to go on the defense for no real reason other than defending your system of choice. Trust me, by and large I love my PS3 for games, movies, and music. It's my favorite system out now (I own 2 ps3s, a wii, and a 360). With the power of the PS3, the browser should be smoking fast and have the ability to play all sorts of digital online media and games like a normal computer. Gmail, youtube, facebook, HTML 5, and newer flash video shouldn't give it any sort of problems unless you're dealing with a crappy browser. Last I checked, my PS3 could really only run super old flash 9 (it that took forever to get that feature). Why h.26, Flash 10, or HTML 5 won't run on the ps3's browser is beyond my logic. The lack of these features really ding up the image I have of the PS3s as a true internet browsing machine like a desktop/laptop or some smart phones. Why chrome or firefox isn't on the PS3 is beyond my understanding. I'm betting sony has intentionally crippled the PS3's browsers to sell you videos, movies, and games on PSN. This is similar to what Apples has done on the ipad and iphone to make their users dependent on itunes and the app store business model.

The browser isn't THAT bad, just not too good for prolonged use.
Latest update to it stopped most videos and email input so it's of no use to me anymore.

It would certainly help if PS3 had more RAM. It must only be utilizing 256 mb since I don't see how it would use the GPU ram outside of graphics. I'd be willing to pay for a RAM expansion on a console for that reason alone.

People seem to be expecting too much from a game console web browser. It's a free bonus and it is usable for a lot of stuff. It's not meant to replace a PC and be your core-browser. People who don't have a problem with it are those who have found something it can be used for that ties into their console use. You need to use it to your advantage.

FriskyTanuki's example is a good one, using it to gather media to watch on his tv. Pron is another good example. Sites that would otherwise give your PC a virus is another. Game guides another. Etc

I try and watch CFL and NHL games on TSN.CA, and CBC.CA, and sometimes Justin.tv, but it does a pretty poor job at it. You need java script enabled, and it keeps fading the screen after 5 mins (couldn't find a way to turn this off, and why would it if a video is playing), and every couple minutes it pops up a message saying "would you like to continue running the current script?". Gaaahhhh!
xvideos.com and other sites like it work flawlessly, is that bad?
Fist-bump, cause a high-five wouldn't be sanitary.

Its a web broswer... stop complaining about it having to be the best, and just use it. I just used it to listen to the CAGcast the other day... I use it to search things on yahoo, and hell once I used it to watch some porn... so hell its good enough. Obviously, it could be better, but damn who cares use your fucking computer.
