How can I clean my N64?

CAGiversary!
System still works fine but it is starting to get harder and harder to boot games after I switch carts or if it has been sitting a while. Q-Tips are too big to get between the connectors - any advice? Maybe a pencil eraser?

Not nearly as cheap, but it might be worth it in time saving & frustration.

After you clean your system make sure you only put clean games in as well. Otherwise you'll just transfer more gunk back in.

screw that $10 cleaning kit. They way I cleaned my N64 was I got an old shot game cart for .50c (Madden 64) and I spread some metal polish on the rom chip on the bottom and plugged and unplugged it from my N64 about 20 times. Then I cleaned all my games. And after I was done I checked that stupid Madden cart and it still worked! Now every game i own boots up on my original launch day N64 every time.

Hmmm... This could be a good use for Aerogauge...

I know you're asking about system cleaning, but I find the best way is to doit indirectly. Act as if you are cleaning a game.

Take Q-Tip, apply alcohol, douse on game cartridge, insert game before alcohol dries, clean system.

It works for me every time my system acts up.

If you want to open the game cart, you can get the bits from The Electric Quarter. I got my bits from there. The guy is a regular poster over at digital press. I would recommend getting both bits incase you want to open other carts. I'm not sure, but I think you also need one of these bits to open the n64 console.

I bought a screwdriver with an entire set of security bits on ebay for like $15 shipped. Its come in handy more than once, and not just for game carts and systems.
