How can you guys/girls afford a hdtv

I just save up enough for a 360 so i decided to go down to our local walmart to look at some cheap hdtv's but i was surprised at how expensive they were,i'm thinking should i get the 360 now and play it on my crappy non hdtv or just keep saving until i can afford a hdtv as well.If i didn't have bills, car payments it wouldn't be much of an issue but damn if you want to game in this generation its gonna cost you.

It may be expensive, but consider this: a TV in most houses is the most used item, so really $1000 or $1500 spread over the 5-10 year life of the TV is a great deal.

I have a side-job as a circus freak. It's degrading, yes, but I refer to it as my HD Job and that makes it better.

You need an income greater than what mowing lawns and babysitting will get you.

I dig up graves and look for stuff to sell, watches, jewellery, gold teeth or whatever. You can do surprisingly well out of it. Plus it's good exercise and it gets me out of the house in the evenings.

It's a victim-less crime.

Homer's Brain: Twenty dollars can buy many peanuts!
Homer: Explain how!
Homer's Brain: Money can be exchanged for goods and services!
Homer: Woo-hoo!

My girlfriend of 7 years is the reason I can't drop multi grand on the TV of choice.

My 360 on my 27" SDTV is more than enough. I'll get an HDTV after I've worked as an Aerospace Engineer for a while.

Full time job, saving, waiting for a good sale. I started saving about a year before I actually bought one. I just threw extra cash in the safe anytime I had any. I didn't want to go into much credit card debt over a entertainment item so I had pretty much all of it saved before I bought.

It's already been said, but:
 1. Money management
 2. Deal hunting
I've been playing on my crappy 27" SDTV since I bought my 360. I don't care. Sure it's sometimes annoying to read shit in Dead Rising or FNR3, but not all games are like that. If you really want it, grab the 360 and get a small HDTV when it's time.

Or just grab a monitor, VGA cable and a nice 5.1 with a game audio adapter... thingy.

OR, use the Best Buy 0% Interest for 3 years and just pay monthly on it so it is PAID OFF before the 3 years are up. That is the EASY way to spread the cost out.

I'm a student and have money saved up from my summer job, so I am waiten till black friday before I drop money on a TV. For me it is hard becus I want a HD but then again I don't know how much money I wll be spending later in the year and into next year.

Sell plasma. You can get a 32" LCD HDTV these days for as low as $400. Even working min wage, should only take you a few weeks.

Credit cards and college loans... I'd go with daroga's suggestion. You usually only get $1 a pot, but if you go back in those suckers will have replaced the pots and filled them with money again. They never learn.
Have you thought of going into people's homes and breakinga ll their pottery and taking the money inside of them?
Theres also usually a chest upstairs near the bed with a few hundred dollars in it.

I dont yet have an HDTV. Mostly cos Im not willing to settle for a cheap one. I want a great one. I have a price point in my head and when TVs get there I will get one. I want a good brand name 1080p 42" lcd for $1000 or less after tax & ship. Im thinking sometime in 2008 it should happen. Hopefully.. lol

In the meantime, a used $10 vga cable from Gamestop and your PC monitor are your friends. ;)

The selling plasma idea is a good choice I think you get $50 a pop and can do it once or twice weekly. i hate needles so I would never do it, but its an option.

Also I have amassed a large collection of old games and wait till the current season to start offloading them.

As well as deal shop and bargain shop on my lunch hours at local thrift stores...

In reality I have yet to buy one, but I will be getting a high end one for our house sometime late this year or next year. I personally cant wait. I stopped buying all dvd's some time ago as I new I would make the jump to one of the High def sides (not sure who yet but would prefer HDDVD I think).

Anyway what people say here is not always true, don't put it on a credit card and rack up interest, in the worst case I would do as Daroga (?) said and do the 3 years interest free and make sure you make payments.

Doesn't take too long to save up a few hundred bucks.

That said, I'm using a $10 computer monitor I bought from my school.

I think though around christmas I'll be getting a 22" widescreen LCD because they're only around $250 and I don't need anything much bigger than that.

Dude, it's bullshit. Last time I did that, this fucker caught me and charged me 10 rupees per pot!

it's cheapassgamer not blindassgamer. go find a good deal on an HD set, save money, purchase. thread over.

Like they said, save up the $$ and pick one up or get a computer monitor. Personally I just DOWNGRADED to an SDTV (there is a legitimate explanation) for my 360... I had a 36" SD for my gaming, then when I got my 360 I pillaged a 30" Phillips HDTV from my father-in-law (who owns a TV repair shop) and used that.

Since we're looking to move into a bigger house I can't just have this 36" TV sitting there so I put it back into the entertainment center for aesthetics. That Phillips had a picture that looked like ass anyway and I'll be getting a 42" LCD when I move, so I can live with it for now.

You can get money for selling plasma?

And like a sucker I've been giving it to the red cross for free.

LoL JK I don't mind donating but I'm surprised that it can be sold.

Wait... you can make MONEY off of that? And here I've been all this time just doing it to get off.

I got a credit card with 0% interest for 6 months and used it to get a KDL-46XBR2 for my bedroom from J&R for about $2,800 IIRC. This was back in April (I've since paid it off). I was 19 and have never worked a day in my life. If I did it, so can you! :p

Okay, perhaps not.

I donate pretty regularly, but somehow the idea of heading out a bunch to harvest my blood for cash just grosses me out. The tv would literally have been bought with blood money.
...sometimes you just gotta take a shot in the mouth to get the finer things in life, little man.
Yup. Plus, you can't spend it when you're dead.

Yeeeaaaah, it's possible to play on a regular TV. It looks fine, too. It's really only worth it to play in HD on a 36" TV anyway. Anything smaller and the difference isn't that great.

I'm still playing on my SDTV.

With component cables it looks great. Not HD, by any means, but beautiful enough.

Hopefully come black friday my situation will change.

The key word is CHEAP ASS.

I would rather pay full price for a game than full price for an HDTV.

And also being a cheap ass gamer also means being a cheap ass in ALL aspects in gaming. (ie: TVs to play them on)

Thread Over.

I go around killing woodland creatures, then I sell the loot I pick off their bodies. Sometimes they have gold pieces lodged in their stomachs.

How was that? I'm currently employed since I started school and enjoy donating blood.
