i've done amazon a couple times and in fact just put a trade-in order. They've updated their system a little bit since I last did a trade-in.
The price noted on the game's page is the price for the game in GOOD condition. This is the game disc intact and playable with not too much wear, with case and manual.
Then there is ACCEPTABLE condition, where there's the disc, but it's missing something else (case, artwork, yada yada)
You'll choose which condition you believe your item(s) are in, but of course Amazon's third party company that handles trade-ins makes the final decision.
You'll be given the option now to either have the item(s) returned to you at no charge if they do not qualify or do not return (they may evaluate them for a lesser amount).
Finally, once you've confirmed, you'll be allowed to choose either a free pre-paid UPS label or send it your way via a carrier like USPS (which you may be forced to do if a UPS drop-off point isn't convenient)
For shipping your games, it depends on how much you're shipping. You can easily find some cheap padded mailers at your local WalMart or office supply store, but you might want a box if you're sending more than three. Include the packing slip and slap on the UPS label and you're ready to ship it.
UPS takes 2-6 days, and all of mine have so far gone to New Hampshire, I don't know if that varies by your location (I'm in New England). After receipt of package and a couple days, you'll get an email saying if your items were accepted and how much in Amazon credit you're getting.
Also, this isn't based on previous experience, but some people on another forum have reported their items were declined acceptance becuase they arrived damaged or something. It might be good to snap a couple photos of the items you're trading-in when you're prepping them for shipment as a backup. I haven't done it yet, because I have yet to have an issue with the trade-in process.
I haven't tested this site yet, but plurent.com is another option, earn some occasional cash by handing over your games and they rent them out.
