I accidentally preordered BioShock at Ebgames a month or so ago. However, I already bought it from TRU today. I won't be able to go to the store until Thursday. Do I need to go there before Tuesday to cancel the preorder or should I just not go at all? Thanks for the help.

(Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I haven't pre ordered a game from them before)
Just walk in and say that you want to cancel a preorder. It should be as simple as that :)
Can I do that even after BioShock comes out? I am not sure I can make it to that EBgames until Thursday or Friday.

Yes, it's your money. Should be no problem at all, though they may say otherwise or try to get you to shift that money to something else.

Worst case scenario: Shift the pre-order to any random thing, then cancel that one the next time you head in. If the employees get annoyed, just be apologetic "Stuff happened, I just can't spare any money for games, dude." (Do note you're not being apologetic because you're doing something wrong- it just makes the employees feel a lil' less jerked-around, so to speak, and you'll get better service.)

yea it's easy... just walk it with your receipt say I want to cancel my pre-order and if they give you lip then just say "Cause you guys suck ass..."

I cancelled my Kane Edition Pre-Order for CNC3 when I knew my local best buy was going to have it in stock... I wanted the Kane Edition so bad plus with price matching it from the CC ad, it was a lot cheaper and no problems at all. EB won't PM squat. Funny thing is, that I could still find Kane Edition copies out there for about 2 months AFTER release :(

doh

see if they will make it worth your while to not cancel your preorder. maybe you can get a free stylus/demo/poster out of it

When I went to go cancel my Madden preorder, the guy started half-yelling, questioning why I would do such a thing, as Madden won't be available anywhere for weeks. Everyone was staring as he asked me where in the world I got a better deal, and I told him about the Best Buy special...he just slammed down some stuff for me to sign and muttered something about Gamestop going to send me a survey on why I cancelled the preorder.

I just took my $5 bill and left.

Don't be apolgetic; it's your money, get it back. Go in with any attitude you want.

First off, the register monkeys will try like hell to get you to keep your pre order or shift it to something else. Tell em 'no thanks there's nothing that interests me that's coming out right now or in the near future' and demand your money back.

Second, did you completely pay for the game or just do the $5 minimum deposit? Because if you just did the minimum, then it should be NO PROBLEM to get the $5 back. However.............. YOU DO NEED YOUR RECEIPT or to at LEAST have your name on file with them for the deposit. Best bet to get your money back is the receipt route, since without it they could just say 'we don't have a record for you in the system'.

Mind you, they would get in serious trouble if you WERE in the system and they lied about it, but it could just be like my God Of War II deposit I did about 6-7 months ago, where I have the receipt but I never received a call to come finish paying for the game or pick it up.

At any rate, don't let them give you crap about getting YOUR money back because it is STILL YOUR MONEY!!

Either way....good luck....you'll need it with the tight fisted slappies @ GS/EB

they should be able to give it back to you in store credit. I get a return on my Marvel Nemesis reserve last year....a year after the game came out.

Yeah, it's pretty easy to cancel a preorder.

Just go in, and say you wanna cancel. We're pushed so hard for preorders that almost every one of us register monkeys will ask if you want to shift it over to something else, or ask why you want to cancel. (and yes, someone coming in and canceling a preorder counts as a negative mark for the day, so we can get in trouble...it's retarded.)

Don't take any of our shit. If we ask, either *politely* decline, or tell the truth. I for one would much rather hear "Yeah, I got it from Toys R Us when they broke street date" than "Uh...my brother like...already got me one...yeah."

Then again, it's about you, not about the register lackeys. Don't take any of our shit, get your money back.

Edit: About the calling on preorders, we don't do that manually anymore. It's all handled by corporate, and you get a pre-taped message from "Aeris" (PUNCH. IN. FACE.) that the game is coming out. I'd rather go back to the manual calls. =\

LOL Logain, well, I didn't get any automated ANYTHING from ANYONE, not even Aeris(from FF? WOO HOO). So, I guess I didn't matter, but my money did. Sorry bout the register monkey thing, as I've done that type of job too and people think just cause ya run a register, ya are psychic n know everything bout everything where ya work.

Only side benefit from my job was that I was in the middle of the one mall here and let's just say it was a high traffic area with alot of very nice scenery(not wanting to say it sexist like n say "I got to check out every woman who walked by ALL DAY LONG").

I think I'd go insane if I worked for Gamestop, since you only have a certain number of customer types, but I won't even get into that. Not to mention being PUSHED to get pre-orders and Edge card/GI subscripts, I'm not a quota type worker.
