How do I know if the used GBA game I purchased is Pirated???

I am very hesitant to purchase used GBA games off the internet due to the warnings I have heard about pirated copies for sale. Are the pirated copies usually identical and does the cartridge look the same? How do I know if I purchased a pirated copy?

I recently purchased a new Genesis game off of ebay and something about it seemed funny.
