How do I reformat?

My computer got all messed up , so now I can't play any of my new pc gmes. I want to reformat, but I forgot how to do it. Can anyone help me out? Do u have to use the windows xp cd? or do something when the computer boots up?
 
Easiest way is to create a windows boot disk (W98 works well). Boot from the disk then type format c: Then reboot with the Windows OS CD.

Don't you mean "I never had any clue how to do it"?
 
If you are running Xp you should be able to boot from the cd, you may have to tell the computer to boot form the cd drive, in the bios when you start your computer.

Is it a Dell/Gateway type brand computer?

If so you may need to start with the restore discs that came with the computer then use the supplemental windows Disc.

Back up what you can back up.

Quit installing Bonzai Buddy...he is not your friend.
 
I remember back when i had 98 se i would have to format every 5 or 6 months. I loved my trusty 98 boot disk. I still keep it right next to me in my drawer
 
oy reformating. i got a brand new pc begining of december last year. by the end of december, it crashed, completely and utterly. it could not boot up no matter what. i ended up having to reformat using my raid drivers disk. that sucked so bad. damn virus.
 
You know what really sux? getting a bios virus. A friend of mine got one and it totally fucked it up his whole computer. He ended up getting a whole new computer before he managed to figure out what was wrong.
 
Why do people reformat their pc for everything?

If you haven't you should visit a video card forum so you can laugh at all the people who reformat their pc almost every month or more just cause they think the driver didn't install right.

You should pick up a copy of Symantec Ghost. Format, then configure everything how you want, all the updates, appz, bla bla bla, then image it. If something ever goes wrong, just reimage your computer, and whola you are good to go. It is a must that you save all of your data in one place so you can burn that place to cd and restore even faster!
 
Formatting is fun. I bought a new hard drive a couple months ago, because my other one was failing (and it froze upon start up 3x in a row, so I decided it was time...) so I attached that HD, and installed windows 98 on it. Don't ever install Windows 98 unless you have the drivers-- I now know from experience. I didn't have the drivers for my network card, so I couldn't get online to download any other drivers.

I was completely screwed, until I just decided to suck it up and install XP pro (had the CDs from when I bought them for $25 a year ago through the university discount). Bam. Automatically installed everything, updated the drivers, and my comp was all of a sudden, smoove. Nothing like starting your computer and knowing there's NOTHING on it that shouldn't be.
