my game collection never really breaks 20 because a new game will come out and i will trade in 2 or 3 games at a time to help pay for it. well i find myself feeling bad about trading in my games, but afterwards, once i make a new purchase, i find myself feeling fine. i think its cuz i have ocd.

but yeah, how do my fellow CAG'ers feel when they trade in their used games.

I never trade in games, but if I did I would feel robbed ... then again nobody is putting a gun to your head to trade in your games so you shouldn't feel bad at all considering you made a conscience decision to go thru with it.

I used to trade all the time if I felt I didn't have or want to spend the cash on new games... especially if something I REALLY wanted came out... but after reaching an alltime high of 153 games owned at one time (number dropped drastically when I made a string of trades, down to around owning maybe), trading games off despite getting crap trade in value, and trading off games that I TRULY regret (Gitaroo-Man anyone?), as of Jan 1st, I made a resolution to not trade off any more games in my collection, and to just wait it out for price drops...

i will never trade a game i remotly give a crap about..i lost to many good games and stuff in the past i would give my right arm to have back. i mostly purchase titles to be trade fodder to get on some good deals but never again will i trade anything i really care about.

Well, the only time I trade a game is if I really don't like it, so I don't mind at all. Plus, I usually end up making a profit on my trades. I bought Ghosthunter from Gamefly for $15, and I really don't like it, so I'll be trading it in for $25. ;)

Pretty good, I don't ever want to end up like the people who have 10,000 games and flip out when they see a greatest hits, etc. Or the people who must download every anime even though they watch maybe 1% of them. For some reason people like that disgust me more than anything.

I traded in FF3 for SNES and Godzilla 2 for NES for.....MK Trilogy.

Lately I only trade in games that I really dont want at all. The only minor regret I have was trading in the Bouncer for 3 bucks, but no biggie. I usually sell my old games on half.com as that pulls in more money.

Hey now ... don't be disgusted by me :)

I buy lots and watch lots of anime.

I have a lot of games too, and I hate GH / PC / PH titles. I must have the original, but don't hate on me man!

I wouldn't trade in a game unless I'm getting the better of the deal. Most times I trade in stuff that I bought cheap and I get higher value for with a special deal . . . for instance see this thread:

http://cheapassgamer.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=45253

I've also traded a few that I knew I would be able to buy again later for cheaper . . . for instance last year I bought Manhunt PS2 for $40 (on a sale) then I "rented" it to my buddy for a few weeks (he gave me $5). Then, after beating it, I traded it in when its value was $25 but they were giving out plus $5 if you traded in 5 . . . so, I traded it in for $30. I bought the Xbox version 2 months ago for $15 probably could have gotten it for less . . .

If I can't ring some extra dough out of a game, I will sell it on ebay where I usually come out ahead.

But I don't worry about games . . . you can almost always find them again later. Even old-school stuff . . . I sold off a ton of SNES games--like Yoshi's Island (complete sold it for $30something in a rummage-type sale). I recently found the cart at Salvation Army . . . at the register the clerk charged me 27 cents. I don't need to have a pristine collection.

I just started trading with GameRush... I never used to trade before.. I only trade the games that I have played to death...or games that I bought cheap and tried them and realized I would never sit down and play the game much at all.

I figure 3 mediocre games to trade for a new top title is worth it.

People who trade in games to EB for $5 or less each that is what I do not understand.

I pretty much only trade crap games that I only bought with the intention to trade in the first place. I use to trade alot. Sure wish I still had that Super Puzzle Fighter..........................

At one time or another, I owned every Sega system released in the U.S. Along the way, I always traded in my old stuff to get the latest releases (it was hard for a 16-year old to come up with $400 for a new Saturn even with a part-time job!). But out of everything I ever traded, the only thing I remotely have interest in playing again are some of those old Saturn games. Don't let nostalgia get the better of you; if you're comfortable trading in games, go ahead and do it.

If I have a game I'm not interested in anymore, or that I don't like, I will certainly try to trade it or sell it. Obviously I don't want to take a big monetary hit, but then again, trading a game I don't like for one I do is a good deal regardless. If the offer is insulting, I'll say no.

I rarely go back and replay old games anymore. And I don't have room to be keeping everything. In the past I didn't trade in games. This generation, however, I am trying to trade in games as I finish with them, while they still have some value. I do wait for someone to offer a good trade-in promotion, though. So far, I haven't really regretted anything.

I only trade in stuff if its worthless or there is a really good trade-in deal going, like 4 RPGs for Fable. Although looking back on it now haveing played Fable that deal kind of sucked. :whistle2:k

I rarely trade in games out of my collection, but if I do, I make sure to trade away the easy-to-find games that I know I can pick back up later for next to nothing.

I don't do it. I kinda started collecting and it's simply not worth it ninety percent of the time. I'd rather hang on to a game than get three or four bucks for it when I trade it in.

I used to trade in games when I was in middle school and high school, since I didn't have a job. I don't trade games in anymore since now I realize how little the stores give and remember the games I should have kept like MGS GBC.

Or Final Fantasy III in mint condition :/

The trade in value just isn't worth it for something I'll eventually want to play again. If anything, I give them to relatives or outright swap them with friends. There's more value in doing that then selling a game for $10 and watching them mark it up to just under retail.

I never do it because i always feel i will regret it. Like there is this always crazy moment where i be like da,mn i feel like playing pandora tom. only to realize i traded it in and weas like shit. Luckily gamefly had it for cheap but ithat made me learn not to trade in games

Sometimes if it's a game I just didnt enjoy much and it's a particularly good trade in deal I feel really good about getting rid of it. If I'm finished with it and I don't think it's great stuff, the game is more or less clutter on my shelf- might as well get rid of it (assuming it's a place like Gamerush where I can get an asinine amount of credit for games)

Also, trading in the weaker parts of my collection at Gamerush is how I was able to get Paper Mario 2, Burnout 3, Jak 3 and Baten Kaitos (all mint or new condition) with virtually no out of pocket expense- I wouldnt have been able to afford any of those otherwise. So I guess the point of all that was trading games in really came through for me this holiday season and I'm glad I did it.

Most times I wait for EB to run a trade-in promotion before I trade in anything, although I tend to keep most stuff. I'm not one of those people who keep everything they ever bought, and end up with a huge collection of mostly crap. I keep just the good stuff.

I used to trade in games a lot before I got a full time job, and I regretted it so much I ended up re-buying them in the future.

I get a single player game (RPG, Platformer) play through it, beat it, that's that trade it.

Get a game I don't really enjoy, its getting traded the next day.

Get a good multiplayer game, it stays forever (unless I deal the system, i still have NBA JAM TE on my SNES and it is still awesome. Me and my friend played 15 games straight Bringin in the New Years.

i feel like im givin a part of myself away..like my soul, or im prostituting myself...then i realize its FYE and im gettin like double wat i paid for..then i feel like bill gates or sumthing

I use to trade games a lot when I was 8 or 9, but even then I would only trade ones that I didn't enjoy or could actually make a couple bucks on somehow by trading. I guess I was refining my taste in games, getting rid of what I didn't like and keeping what I did. In the last 13 years I have traded in games 1 time, just last week @ EB b/c of their add $10 promo. Even then I only traded 3 crappy, old sports games and ended up with Fatal Frame(xbox) and Aerobiz for about $13 total becuase of it. Trading in games is almost always a bad decision, on the wrong side of borderline stupid, especially when you consider that you can always(99%) make more on eBay.

I make a profit on most games I trade (as most CAGs should), so I feel good about it. But I have a pretty big collection (over 300) and there are still plenty of games I no longer want.

Who gives $25 for Ghosthunter? I got it at Gamefly for $15 as well.

The same way I feel when I sell back my textbooks.... Raped. The only way I will trade a game in is if I get about the same amout of money back that I put into it. For instance, I just traded DOA Ultimate to gamestop and got $22 back. I bought it for $25, so I didn't get screwed too bad by them.

The only time I ever traded in games was when EB was having a deal, where you trade 10 PSX, DC, or N64 games and you get a new console for a discounted price. At the time Xbox was $180 new, so I traded in a ton of games that I regret giving up, including a gold Ocarina of Time, Mario 64, Bomberman 64 (which was a gift from my mother, so I didn't want to part with it), and others. Using this deal, and giving up some of my games (and some my friend donated to me) I walked out with an Xbox and Halo for 24 bucks.

Luckily I'd bought some cheap used games from GameCrazy so I didn't have to give up so many of my own. I abhor giving up my games. I doubt I'll ever trade in again, unless I have extra copies or something.

At first I feel like I'm getting some shelf space and getting rid of shit that I'll never play again. Then, while trading them in, I'm like "Goddamnit, why did I buy these in the first place."

Heh. Looks as though this forum could use an actual EB games employee. Trading in games to EB or anywhere is both good and bad. My initial reaction to trading in games to my store is wow there not gonna give me crap for that. The only time i trade is for deals and new games that i take home beat and trade in asap. I hate most of the crap prices we give people for there games. The even worse thing is we take games, give you around 2 bucks than sell it for 20. On the other hand, trading in games does give you some money towards your newer games and how many companies let you trade in something after you use it? I mean seriously can you like buy socks, wear them as many times as you want, than get money or store credit back for it?

If the socks were useable and people would buy them, I'm sure that someone would do it...
I think trading in games is like shooting yourself in the foot.
Agreed. Why get $3.50 for something that cost me $20 or more? For that little money, it's better to just keep the games on the off chance that you'll ever want to play them again. Heck, I've got games I haven't touched in years still around - crap like A Bug's Life for my N64, or maybe Ikari Warriors 2 for my NES. Even though I might never play those again in my life, the time it would take to go trade those in wouldn't be worth it either.

yea well i'm ocd also probably and i can neveerrrrr give up my games. i never trade in any games and they will have to pry them from my cold dead fingers. and i feel bad for having so many. so its a no win

I always trade them. I do not EVER replay games no matter how good they are. It's better that I get something for them then to have them collect dust.....
