How do you get marker off N64 cartridges?

CAGiversary!
I wanted to know the best, and safest, way to get marker off N64 cartridges. Every once in a while I'll buy a game and it'll have some kid's name all over it. It drives me nuts.

I'll second these. Whoever suggested these in the Yardsale thread is a genius. And if it was you evilmax, sorry to have said whoever.

Probably obvious, but if it's on the label there is no good way to really get the marker off without also taking off the label print.

If it's just on the plastic (and thankfully 95% of the time the previous owner was smart enough to mark just on the plastic) it's usually pretty easy to get off. I just use rubbing alcohol and a little elbow grease myself. Never tried the Mr. Clean erasers but everyone who has seems to swear by them.

The erasers even take marker off of labels without damaging them at all, so you'll never have to worry about taking off label print again!

That's something I'm going to have to try myself to believe :) I'll have to pick one of those up next time I need to try cleaning a label with marker on it.

Rubbing Alcohol will take the marker off the label just fine, but leaves a nice bare white patch as well

Wow, great help guys. Gonna use this on a bunch of game that I have bought that have marks.

Fingernail polish remover (non acetone) also works well for taking ink off the plastic on N64 games - just do not use it on NES games - the plastic turns really, really white!! (never tried it on SNES games though)

I use the cheepest ass everclear i can find in a small squirt bottle. Yeah just sucks to be 21 to get the stuff but it doesn't leave a oil residue like rubbing Alcohol and fingernail polish remover has. Why to do you think it is 70% rubbing Alcohol? Yeah there is some water thrown in with it but the rest is oil so that it is not as harsh on the skin and hands when used. That is why Nintendo back in the day said not to use it on the carts as it left the oily residue. Old Atari 2600 carts when sent in for "repair" i.e. dirty, to Atari were cleaned with a oil like contact cleaner that would help bridge the contacts so the games would work for a year or two but over time would gum up again.
I saw in another post that someone said to use a car metal cleaning paste on contacts that "leaves a protective coating". Give it a few years and that stuff will do the same thing try and use only electrionic cleaning stuff as it is ment for that kinda stuff. Even so read the fine print and see what it says.

My two cents take it or leave it I just want to pass on the word.
