How I solved my problems with the 360 & Linksys Router
not seeing each other after upgrading to WMP11. This
may not work for everyone but it took me awhile to cobble
together a solution. Attempt at your own risk.

First click START then click on RUN

Enter where it says Open: "services.msc" (without quotes)
Scroll down to SSDP Discovery Service
Right click on it to view its Properties

If it says Startup Type disable then change it to Automatic
then click on the Start button under the Service Status

Exit that dialog box

Scroll down a short ways to Universal Plug And Play Device Host
Right click on it to view its Properties

If it says Startup Type disable then change it to Automatic
then click on the Start button under the Service Status

If you get an error message saying it failed to start
then click on the tab marked Log On and
where it says Log on as: make sure the option
THIS ACCOUNT is selected and then if there is
password marks there ******* remove them and click
apply it should say permission granted and you can
go back and attempt it to start which it should.
Close your dialog boxes

Then restart WMP 11 click on Library then Media Sharing
(be sure you 360 is on) click OK and it should now find
your Xbox 360, select it and click allow then apply then
ok.
You should be golden.
 
I used to be able to connect and stream music using mediaplayerconnect or whatever its called... then i did one of the 360 updates and it stopped working. Eventually i applied the 360s fall update and upgraded to WMP11 which does away with mediaplayerconnect... its able to see the 360 and has a green check mark by it, ive selected the directories and all that but my 360 just cant see the computer for some reason. Its really pissing me off.

then you would also have to uninstall wmp11, and install wmp10? sounds like alot of work if you already have wmp11

Nope, still got WMP11. Just downloaded WMC1.0 and configured it to go. had to uninstall WMC2.0 though, no biggie.
 
I've been able to help 2 other people figure out their problem if you want leave me a note with what's going on and I'll gladly try and help.

I've also found this method to work as well if you're still having problems.

Go to your system blade on your 360 and disconnect 360
from your PC if it is currently finding it but not retrieving the
media files.


Go to your PC and...
Uninstall WMP 11 and WMF 11 Runtime

For the next step you'll need to change your folder views
so that you can see hidden files and system files. Most of
you on here now how to do that so I won't go into that.

Go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM
and delete all the files inside that folder.

Restart your PC / Reinstall WMP 11
Attempt again your media share


So far between my 1st message and this one it has fixed
3 other friends of mines systems that were not seeing the
media or not find the 360. However do so at your own peril
as I am just one person.

Also, these fixes were down with Windows XP Pro & Home
so I do not know if they work also on Windows ME or Vista.
 
Maybe someone could help me.

I'm running WinXP with WMP11. WMP11 sees the 360, has a little green check mark. 360 test fails and won't find the PC. I have the necessary ports open on my router. I can network to other computers on my network.

Any ideas?

Do you have your 360 set up in the DMZ on your router?
I've found this to work. Also if your using Windows Live OneCare
Firewall be sure that you've set it up for UPnP Framework (TCP 2869, UDP 1900)
 
Yup, most of these problems are related to people's firewalls. I'll bet if they were to dissable the Windows Firewall and any other soft firewall then they'd get a connection between the two, but I wouln't recommend it.

OP - you are awesome to actually post a mini-tutorial. Great work, very brave.

Most firewalls have to be tweaked to have to two communicate so I've learned in a whole bunch of trial and error. I am using WLO also so I have OP's settings.

I'm not sure what DMZ is but I have port-forwarded all the ones for the 360.

I got the port #'s from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911728

Is DMZ the same as port-forwarding?

No DMZ lets a specific IP address to access the internet without
any blocks. I've included a photo of where this option is on a
Linksys router admin page. You will need to know your 360's
IP address which you can get from your 360 System Blade.
Enter That IP address where it says DMZ host IP address

how do i get to that screen for my linksys router. Also, the computer that has my media edition isn't the computer that my router is connected too. The media edition computer is my laptop that is located in my room.

Haha, Oh man I'm not gay or anything but I could kiss you! fuck it worked. I already had like everything set up, services and DMZ before I looked at your post but sure enough it was Windows Live One Care Firewall. I had ports open in it but I did this ---->Clicked on Firewall tab....Read the tab lol and click on Firewall Connection Tool----->Then clicked ON Connect my xbox 360 to xp pc. I'm so pissed that this was the only thing I had to do and I thought I knew everything about my pc. Lol thanks again man, you rival xbox support and I can understand you instead of those damn Indian tech people! F^^CK YA!:applause:

You have to log into your Linksys router to get to that screen which
is generally done at 192.168.1.1 (the last two numbers may differ
on your system).

That didn't help me. I still have no idea how to do it.
 
when I went to xbox.com/pcsetup, it directed me to that stupid Zune software. I installed that and it can see my 360, but my 360 can't seem to see my PC.

Now I'm trying to use my Windows Media Player instead, but for the life of me I cannot find the "Media Sharing" option this is mentioned in every single online tutorial. I click the Library tab, but I don't see anything for Media Sharing. And I'm running WMP 11. Anyone know what the deal is???
 
okay, I reinstalled WMP 11, and now the "Media Sharing" option appears. But now I'm hitting the same wall as a lot of people. My PC can see the 360 fine, and it seems to enable sharing for it (green check mark by the 360 icon). But the on the 360, I can never see the PC. I've forwarded all those ports too, using the steps listed here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[ln];308127

In that guide I linked to above, this one step seemed kind of weird to me, but I did it anyway: "7. In the Name or IP address of the computer hosting this service on your network box, type 127.0.0.1. "
 
does windows media center help this process along. I'm about to get my 360 and I'm wondering if there is any work around on just being able to play WMV files

So I'm thinking the 360 issue may be related. It's the same type of thing where my PC can see them, but they can't see me.
 
Since the 360 supports Zune, does it also support the music you download through the Zune's subscription service? Or only music you rip from your own CDs? Sorry, this has probably been covered but I couldn't find it. Thanks.
 
ive never had a problem using media connect..

i tried wm11 once and it didnt work.. perhaps i will try again in the future..

im fine with wm10 for now
 
Whoa, I just took a tip from CAG CokeCola, and everything is working fine now! IF YOU HAVE A DS WiFi USB DONGLE, try disconnecting it. I did, and suddenly my 360 could see the PC! Apparently "Internet Connection Sharing" can cause some conflicts when wireless adaptors are used. Now I just have to find out if there is a way to use my WiFi adaptor as the same time as my 360 online.
