How many films on the IMDB Top 250 have you seen?
I'm not even going to do this. The fact that Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz were even on that list is a statement to how shitty it is.

BTW- I did not like the Godfather. IMO, Goodfellas was 100 times better.
With that last statement, you loose all credibility. Though Goodfellas is every good.
Except you know, Shaun of the Dead & Hot Fuzz are GREAT movies
Shaun of the Dead was terrible movie. I didn't even have to watch Hot Fuzz to know it was going to be just as bad.

And JolietJake, I like most good, older movies. Shawshank Redemption, Cool Hand Luke, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, Forest Gump, etc. They're all classic great movies. Some movies from the past 15 years are really good, but most aren't. Anyway, I just didn't take a liking to the Godfather. It didn't make me want to watch it over and over again like Goodfellas did. Maybe I need to re-watch it, I don't know. I'm just saying, it's too over-rated. It's not THAT good.
Except it doesn't matter how many people watch a movie because movies are ranked by the average rating -- which is essentially enjoyment-per-viewer.

If IMDB summed all the ratings (without dividing it by the quantity of ratings) then yes, you'd have a point. But they don't do that because the result would be meaningless.
Except for movies like The Exterminating Angel (8.2) and Napoléon (8.2) which have a high enough rating but not the necessary amount of votes to make the list.

I mean Iron Man (which just came out last month) is #161. That alone should tell you what's the matter with IMDB's list.

Once upon a time, we Whedon fans had Serenity up in IMdb's Top 250. I think some people gave it a 1 just to spite us. Bastards.

Shaun of the Dead is terrible?

ok, good you also say Hot Fuzz is terrible too w/ out seeing it

but whatever, its your opinion

68/250. Thought it would have been more.

I don't quiet agree with that list. #22 Fight Club? I love that movie and its my personal favorite but I wouldn't put it up at #22. Iron Man?
And damn proud of it. Most of the movies on that list are garbage.
Brilliant. You've not seen them, yet they're garbage?

*sigh* This place really is turning into gamefaqs.
But back up for a second -- why should a "best" list be from an artistic standpoint?

Most movies set out to entertain. To be enjoyed. Lists like this, rooted in the general masses' unrefined taste, are just an aggregation of the masses' enjoyment, which IMO, is how any "best movie" list should rank its entries.
A best list implied quality IMO. These types of lists should be called "favorites" or something. Just silly semantics though, so really no biggie.

I just don't like them as the masses have shitty tastes. :p And lists like this just look silly when you have pure entertainment popcorn movies mixed in with award winning films.

But again, no biggie all lists are pointless as at the end of the day only one's personal opinion matters when it comes to things like movies.
I don't understand how anyone can try to discredit IMDB's list. It's based on the feedback of 100's of 1,000's movie watchers. What is a film's quality if not its capability to be as enjoyable as possible to as many people as possible?

IMDB's list is much more accurate than something like Rotten Tomatoes, or any list a single person / small group can create.
Ask yourself, does Ratatouille deserve a higher rating than Finding Nemo and The Incredibles?
Ask yourself, does Ratatouille deserve a higher rating than Finding Nemo and The Incredibles?
probably not, but that helps show which movies can last over time. Now probably in a couple years Ratatouille will be knocked out for something else, while the classics stay. Its not really a best movie list, its a list of the top 250 popular movies that are at least good movies. You'll have classics on there for being classics, and some recent movies that are decent but popular. After that its pretty much a crap shoot on what goes on there and the order.

115 / 250 for me. If I go through what I've picked up in the last twelve months on movies, I think I could go up to 135 / 150 out of that list.
And damn proud of it. Most of the movies on that list are garbage.
And you are full of it... there are a lot of great movies on that list, most people these days are averse to anything B&W and older than 20 years

As for myself 155/250... actually thought beforehand I would reach 200
Ask yourself, does Ratatouille deserve a higher rating than Finding Nemo and The Incredibles?
I thought Ratatouille was a superior movie than Nemo and the Incredibles. But as the saying goes: Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one.
Ask yourself, does Ratatouille deserve a higher rating than Finding Nemo and The Incredibles?
Why does it matter what I think? There's no right or wrong answer.

If I were voting on IMDB, how much I enjoyed the movies, I'd probably rate Ratatouille & Finding Nemo 8 stars out of 10, Incredibles 7 out of 10.

24 that I remember watching all the way through. Add a few more for some that I have seen bits and pieces of.
You people watch way too many movies. Do better things with your time like.....play videogames!
Movies over games any day of the week for me!

I've seen 116, but some really don't deserve to be in the top 250 like Crash and Million Dollar Baby. People ought to rate Ghost Dog higher.

86, maybe I've seen more but foreign titles and tiny little pictures doesn't exactly make it easy on you. I nearly missed Crouching Tiger and City of God. It would be nice if they'd put the English title also.

91 / 250

With the exception of a few of the more recent flicks on the list that I haven't got around to seeing, like American Gangster, I'm seen all the movies on the list I ever care to.
Shaun of the Dead is terrible?

ok, good you also say Hot Fuzz is terrible too w/ out seeing it

Shaun was great comedy fun but Hot Fuzz was shit that had serious pacing problems overflowing with mediocre jokes. Fuzz was the biggest movie disappointment of last year for me.
Ask yourself, does Ratatouille deserve a higher rating than Finding Nemo and The Incredibles?
YES, yes and yes. Nemo is good kids flick that the parents can watch, the Incredibles was sweet and likable but Ratatouille is fucking great for a married 28 year old without kids that likes animation. Sure the kids like Nemo and Incredibles more but Ratatouille is the better movie IMO but neither one of us is right or wrong...

I'm at 110 which is largely due to the fact that all the newer stuff and foriegn stuff is covered.

I'm not watching 1930-1970 movies for anyone.

Bad pacing, bad acting, and more just make it too hard to go backward.
