How many of your games do you play all the way through?

I noticed this pattern in my gaming over the last year...between the price drops and availability of games which I'm interested in playing, I probably only finish 20-25% of all the games I purchase. I find if I get stuck, or bored with a level, I put it away and it probably doesn't come off the shelf again soon...

Am I the only one with this problem?

I thought I was the only one with this problem. Being a cheapassgamer I spend more time buying games then playing them. I figure when im old and retire, I'll play them all....
 
I play all of my games for a few weeks after I first get them, but rarely all the way through. For this reason I own maybe 3 RPG's.
 
Not too many. I couldn't even begin to figure out a percentage. I am trying to get better though. Right now I am a good deal into about 4 or 5 games and I am determined not to start another till I beat one or two of them.
 
I used to play my games all the way through or at least try until I became really frustrated. It seems less and less now, because I don't really have time. I like to try out my games within a few days of when I get them, and if it's an RPG and I'm addicted enough I'll get hooked into it, but for the most part they go back on my shelf (I haven't touched windwaker for about 4 months).
 
i mostly wont even look at another game until i beat the one that i am playing

but as far as puzzle, fighting, and racing games....they never get beat because they're too repetitive to me...i dont even bother playing the 1 player modes most of the time on those types of games
 
I will play all my games (as i've done in the past). I have a que of 6 games (Metriod Prime, BoF:DQ, Silent Hill 3, Rygar, Primal, Ico) and i'm currently in the middle of Disgaea.

Oh, and trustcompany, ur avatar is quite the hottie
 
I have found that with my job and the number of games I find on here. I never finish a game. The only game I have finished is Luigi's Mansion because it is so short! I should finish Wario World and Max Payne since they are short as well. That's assuming I ever open them! My backlog of new games has gotten really bad.
 
i have the same problem BUT keep in mind that I'm going to be playing my PS2 GC and x-box until 2006 at the earlest...i don't plan on getting another system for a long time..so i have a long time to go though all the games i'm amassing

Yeah same here, I never buy a new system. Instead, I wait around till the first wave of price drops before I even think about getting a new system. I won't spend more than $200 on a new system.

With that in mind, I'll have plenty of time to go play all the dirt cheap PS2 GH games.
 
I beat most of my games. But not 100% usually. For example Wind Waker, in terms of collecting things I only have about 60%, but since I beat Ganon I have no real incentive to go back. I rarely beat a game 100% unless it gives me something special. That being said, I haven't beaten a game since I beat Breakdown. I just haven't had time.
 
I play as many as possible all the way through. I think I'm going to be one who waits for price cuts in the next generation anyway, unless I effortlessly come across large piles of money between then and now.
 
Well, I have never finished a single game. I came really really close with Super Mario World for SNES, but got stuck in one of the final levels. I'm like a few other folks in that I don't buy new systems at launch, but even so my backlog is incredibly bad--because I still buy new systems eventually. I only have an SNES, N64, Gamecube, and GBA--but I have games for *all* of the systems I have barely touched. I just have a terrible habit of buying cool games when I find them on sale, since I know I may not see them at that price again. I think I bought almost all of my games at the $15-$20 price range--but I have a hard time finding time since my spouse has *zero* interest in games, and in fact dislikes them. Oh well!

I hope no one from a big publisher sees this thread, they are trying to justify shorter games for the very reason that most gamers do not finish a title. I' ve seen various stats putting the rate of completion at less than 30%. Should we be asking for more games that are shorter or just fewer games so that we can get through the ones that we have? This topic is of great interest to me because I'm looking for a job in the industry and would be curious as to what hardcore gamers think about this. It seems like it could be a dangerous road to ask for shorter games as a consumer because a publisher can reduce the amount of content but will more than likely charge the same amount.
To ask a more specific question, who has played Mechassualt for Xbox? Was it long enough and if you made it all the way through was it hard enough? The reason I'm asking is because I'm applying to Day 1 Studios in Chicago and I want to hammer out a proposal and get them to grab the rights from Microsoft (MS bought FASA a couple years ago) to do a Shadowrun game and it would have to be an action/RPG and that means completion time for the player becomes a major issue. Thoughts and ideas anyone?

Maybe I should move this to it's own thread.
 
If it's a game i've been waiting i play through the whole thing, even if it turns out to be cruddy.
 
I have a chronic problem with this...

Since buying my xbox 1 1/2 years ago...and about 30+ games later...I've only finished 3 (halo, POP, and KOTOR)...I'm getting close to finishing Ninja Gaiden now

I'm not sure what I'm going to complete next, but I have plenty to choose from, thanks to CAG!
 
I almost never finish a game completely. Often I'll get to a point (especially in rpg's) where i could just kick the crap out of the last section of the game, but I won't bother to do it ever.

The funny part is some of my friends use the fact that I beat a game to judge how good it is (Chrono Trigger, KOTOR)
 
With time I play all my games through, I am always getting games in a never ending cycle and slowly beating them one at a time.
 
Even if I don't really dig a game to the fullest, I try my hardest to beat it. I think it allows you to more easily comment on the game, and make fewer generalizations. additionally, my game purchases are, unfortunately, few and far between
 
I have this problem myself, but its more like a 60 to 40 ratio with 60 being what I don't have finished. One of the main reason I buy few rpgs, if I get on a winning streak it means jack shit in an rpg, what is 2 or 3 more hours in a 40 + game, but start to havea good streak in an action game and bam done.
 
yea, i used to beat every game i bought, but recently havent had the patience to beat many of my games.

some, like burnout 2 and chronicles of riddick, keep me hooked till the end, then i turn around and beat it on hard and collect everything possible.
but many of them i just get frustrated with, like far cry pissing me off with its checkpoints, and primal while i love the story has an unintuitive and therefor unsatisfying combat system.

i guess it boils down to if im having a blast with it, ill finish it. but most games dont impress me enough nowadays.
 
A few years ago, I beat one game, then, bought another (my gaming stash was very low then, thats probably why). Nowadays, I probably have a 1:3 ratio of the games that I complete.
 
I check my stash the other day. Of the 50 some games I have, I have beaten only 6. Some games I haven't started yet, and others I just need to spend a few hours and complete. Eventually, most of them get beat, unless they are no fun to play, like Murokomo. That game will never sully my XBox again.
 
I've been playing games for over 20 years (yeah, I'm old) and I've finished maybe five games. It really depends on the game, though. Most games start out playable enough, but then become too hard or tricky or repetitive or whatever.

Right now I'm playing Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete on PS1 and having a blast. I'm almost at the end, and there's a stupid puzzle before I get to Foozle, so I'm gonna GameFaqs it and then see if I can finish the game. But most games I lose motivation way before the end.
 
I try to play all the way through but I usually end up buying another one. I then set aside the one I was playing for the new one then the cycle continues. Damn I'm sick :) ...
 
I also find I have the same problem. I try to beat as many games as I can. RGPs are always so time consuming I beat Final Fantasy X just before X-2 came out bought it and have never played it because I just don't feel like getting consumed like that again. The last RPG I really got into was the Wind Walker which I took some vacation days off from work just to finish. Now I trying to finish action titles. I currently playing manhunt but I recently finished Max Payne 2, Indiana Jones, Red Ded Revolver, and Ninja Gaiden. I'm just working my way through a long list of games! CAG has got me some many titles I never even touched yet. I really have no interest in NextGen Consoles because I really think most developers haven't even taken the current consoles to their full potentionals! Manhunt is almost finished and next will be. . .
