How often do first party memory cards corrupt?

I know it seems like an odd topic, but I've given up on my 16x MadCatz Gamecube Memory Card. Countless numbers of times it has corrupted my data, making me lose all my WWE CAWS, Smash Bros. unlockables and important RPG saves. But my question is, how often do first party memory cards corrupt? I mean, how long can you go without your valuable data deleting itself? I will be getting an official 251 block and would like to know.
