How often do people get ripped off trading on this site?

No, the percentage of bad trades is very, very small. Look at the CAG trader ratings. Use common sense, trade with well established traders at first, and you should have no problems.

i am crap with ratios, so let me jsut say it's not easy to get screwed on CAG... unless you are a fine naked girl with a bunch of horny guys... then you would litteraly be screwed.

Yeah, if an offer sucks then you don't agree to it.. as simple as that.

In fact, I'd say most of the time both parties are very happy with a transaction, more so than they would've been at EB, GS, eBay, etc.

the sites feedback is inaccurate because there is an overwhelming amount of positive feedback that was not carried over into the new system.
according to site feedback, it's 300-1
The ratings are also missing a lot of old feedback that wasn't converted over with the new system, and there were a lot more positive feedback than negative ones left out from the conversion. So the ratio is actually larger than that.

Edited to add: Damn, punq beat me to it.

I like this idea of trading/borrowing so i like some of you to list which users are the the most trust worthy??

Obviously, me being a noob i would have to send out my game/money first. So which users can i trust..??

list the guys that can be trusted.

Shrike.

I'd say about 500 to 1. However when people do get screwed it often happens to several users at once. The easy way to avoid problems is to trade with users with a number of feedback, in almost every single problem case the problem user had very little or no feedback.

i'd say 10 is a safe number to trust. now personally i wouldn't send $300 worth of stuff to someone with 10 positive feedbacks, but game for game is usually safe. i've got over 20 without a problem. all in all it kicks ass to trade games. lots better than paying ebay and paypal to get a games and money for games. post your list and give it a try.

I too was worried about it..just did a little research, saw for myself all the overwhelming feedback and decided to give it a whirl. Just completed my first trade, have two others in process and everyone has been easy to work with. Just be up front, honest and follow through with responses and you won't have many problems with anyone here.

I think use common sense will help avoid many of the trading problems. And always ask for everything if you are not certain. Don't assume anything then you won't be disappointed when you receive item not of condition you expected. Also, if you don't have any feedback, it might make sense to trade with someone who already has solid feedback. Once you build up your feedback, it'll be easier to trade with other people without much feedback.

Most of my feedback is in the old system, but I like to think I'm fairly reputable.

Just use common sense. Does he have feedback, is the deal too good to be true, or is he ripping you off? Is he a new member or has he been here a while?
ironically there are 4 mods in the top 10 ^^
That's not ironic in the least. Unless you'd like to enlighten me why it is...

ya, most of the trades, mostly bought stuff from people though, i have done here have been great in my experience. I've got so many games after i found this site......haven't even started playing half of them at least.

Ripped off once, but it was hilarious! Almost worth what I lost.

Traded probably close to 20 times. Lost count with the new feedback system.

Anyone who is in the top 20 can be trusted pretty much implicitly. Everyone in the top 20 has numerous numbers of positives, maybe 1-2 neutrals and no negatives.

There's plenty of information in the FAQ about how to work out a successful trade, and I highly suggest looking it over. Should answer most of your questions.

In the rankings, the trader rating is the number of unique CAGs that someone has dealt with, which in my case is 204. The number of trades is also listed, which in my case is 363.

I recommend taking time to look through the FAQ. It'll help, a lot.

And for percentages of bad trades to good one, we're talking about less than one hundreth of a percent, including the new system and the old system. Probably less.

very rarely if you follow those rules - for example:

good trade: lumines for need for speed underground rivals, shipped FC w/ DC both ways

bad trade: Sealed PSP for $85 shipped media

I think this is still a small community and for the most part anyone whos avatar you can remember is like a cousin. Most people here are nice and trustworthy.

I don't make deals with those I feel are sketchy, so I haven't been screwed and don't intend to be screwed by any trader in the future. I've made plenty of details and have been around the trading forum long enough to be able to get a feel of who's trustworthy or not, which is mostly everyone here. The ratio of getting ripped off is very small, like others have mentioned.

You can also contact the people who left feedback for the person you want to deal with. Most people on this forum wouldn't mind to take 5 minutes out of their day to tell you how their transactions went.

I've had one bad experience on CAG and it was taken care of to everyone's satisfaction. This place is slowly overtaking my old trading haunt, www.arstechnica.com (agora classifieds), as my trading community of choice.

The CAG trading community has really matured since I initially registered. It was pretty daunting getting a trade off the ground when I started; in fact, I didn't. The community was smaller and more insular, and there was no feedback system like there is now. You basically had a bloated feedback thread and faith to rely on in those days. There were more bad trades before the current feedback model was in place (judging by the number of ripped off threads there were). Also, the veterans were much more "flamey." I remember getting torn a new hole for trying to show my references from ars as a show of good faith.

Luckily, CheapyD seems to have tamed the wild wild CAG and turned it into a quiet little one horse town.

I have made over 300 trades on gametz, and have never been ripped off, 30 on switchhouse and like 5 on here. Im just that damn good for one reason, and its very simple to follow. If its too good to be true it is. Every time i feel the deal is too much in my favor, i make them send first no question. i think i shot down 15 or so would be rippers using that, 5 or so were mildly reputable and 2 or so were 100+ trade users (all on gametz).

After all that, I can count on my hand the number of trades i have found in my overwhelming favor, too the point where it was too good to be true. Two in over 300 trades. One of which i know was because the other guy was a dumbass, the other was just strange but he sent first...

I've done about 6 or 7 trades on here (although not all of my feedback transferred into the new system), no problems whatsoever, great people to do business with.

There's a FAQ on doing trades? Where is it?

Edited to add: Whoa, I totally never knew there was a place with all the FAQs in one place. I was expecting a sticky in the board.

I do this myself, especially if it's someone with just a handful of FB.

Of particular importance to me is if the trader has ever been paid or sent their half of the trade second. As you obviously don't really have the opportunity to scam someone if you are sending first. I wish the FB system tracked who sent first/paid first.

I'd suggest you deal with traders that have some feedback (5+ or even better 10+) and make sure the FB is for real stuff - not just for them sending a couple free Xbox Live trial codes to some CAGers for example. For example a healthy portion of shrike's massive amount of FB is from him selling games to CAGers (who paid first) for $20 and more. That tells you that shrike can be trusted.

Then once you have 4 or 5 FB yourself you can have the 0 FB traders send first and not worry about being scammed from a hit and run artist.

Of course 0 FB traders aren't obligated to send first, but if they refuse I don't deal with them.

Not all the work the mods do is up front and in view. :D

Yes, the FAQ is that nice little button on the top of the screen that people go "WTF is that doing there?". It's still a work in progress, such as the "Problems With a Transaction" section, though there's a lot of info there that didn't used to be.

I had some trades on the previous version that I forgot to bring over and I have made some trades with the new feedback system and I find that you'll know if you can trust someone or not.

I have never been taken yet and I find a few thing that are important is Delivery Confirmation with any shipment, to talk to the person through the PM system and make sure you can trust them or feel that it is a good deal. If you frequent the boards you will notice the same avatars all the time which is a good indication of a consistant CAG and possible good trader. Like a few others said you do not have to make the trade if you feel it is not in your best interest. You can also do some research on the person as well.

I have yet to have a bad experience with anyone and I look foward to possible trades in the future. CAG is a very friendly community and I'm glad to be a part of it.
