I just got broadband service and I was wondering if people are playing Socom I now that II is out. And is anyone still playing Tribes AA ? I've thought about picking this one up for a while and now that I have a fast internet connection I just might if people are still playing it.

But I really don't want to buy a game that no one is playing anymore. Got Auto Modelista but there never seems to be more than 3 people playing at any given time.

Socom 1 will usually have a fair amount of people on. I don't think that you would ever have any problem hopping in and finding an 8v8.

I don't know about Tribes though.

oh, and I meant that you won't have any problem finding an 8v8 because there will be a lot of them. My guess is there are at least 1000 people on at any given moment

Fact: Poor people love inexpensive games and will play them till the day they die. Since Socom is a Greatest Hit and free to play then I'd suspect that the severs will be overflowing with people until the PS2 gets put out to pasture.

I still play Tribes quite a bit as well. It's very fun, and there's almost always a game going on.

You can beat up on folks like me who only have a 56K connection pretty easily too.

Well, get ready for some fresh meat. I just got both Tribes and Socom I at Gamestop today. I'll try to brush up on some skills first before entering the arena of death but I still expect to get my ass fragged more often than not. This was my experience on the DC unreal and Quake servers a couple of years ago.

Please take pity on an old man, you young whippersnappers!!

if your ganna play socom 1 get the Headset.(side note) how many people can play in an arena on tribes 8??is it 4v4 or FFA?

I think the largest # of players is 16, 8 on each team. But I've not played it in a couple of weeks as I was out of town so I can't remember the exact number.

I'll be back on later this week

EDIT: This post is referring to Tribes AA.

I would counsel against getting SOCOM 1... I went back to play it again until a friend of mine picked up a used copy of 2 (AFF25!), and I'll be damned if I didn't run into a cheater in every third game.

I really hate those people. They ruin a perfectly good game. How is being invincible, or flying, or shooting through walls FUN in a competitive game like this? Not even your teammates like you when you're a cheater.

SOCOM 2, on the other hand, is doing a good job of keeping cheaters out, and is much better for it. But I guess if the $10-$13 difference between a GH SOCOM 1 and a used SOCOM 2 is enough for you to put up with rampant cheating, more power to you.

I think I'll be playing the offline campaigns for a while in Socom I anyway. When I feel more confident I may make the jump to II to start playing online. I have no interest in buying a $30 headset just yet anyway.

I'm still trying to get a handle on the controls for Socom. Havent had much time for much practice. Tribes is just like UT, I'd even say it was the same engine, but it seems much faster. I can play UT pretty well on the PS2 but I still can't get the feel for aiming accurately in Tribes. I may have to break out the USB mouse and keyboard.

I got tribes a couple a days ago because of this topic and its been a decent experience, it just really sucks theirs no voice communication and everything is random

I own Socom and i play tribes whenever my friend comes over. Tribes is really fun and socom i haven't played online in ages but it was pretty huge back then i don't think it would change much. Tribes is still doing well online wise too last we were on had a good amount of servers to go on and what not.
