How the Wii Stole Christmas, or vice-versa...

Thought I'd share this odd bit of Wiiness with you all.

My wife and I set up the Christmas tree this afternoon. This evening I sat down for some Zelda and after powering on the system, my cursor was jumping ALL OVER the place. I had trouble even getting it to the sensor bar settings to see what on earth was going on. Lo, and behold, while the sun may cause havoc with the Wii, its true enemy is Christmas, or more specifically, tiny, white, Christmas lights.

The pictures are crap, but you get the idea:

A odd sensor bar setting screen
Close proximity of tree to TV/Wii

Just a heads up for you all. :)

Someone in my class was talking about a similar case earlier. He said you can use 2 candles to control the wii from the "sensor bar" without having the controller plugged into the system. Said there was also a video about it on youtube.

It seemed neat but i see the problem this can pose to those with things like these around.

We can't have a thread with the words "steal" and "Wii" in the same mentioning, and not have me involved.

Now can we?

BTW, white lights? C'mon man, live a little! Everyone knows gaudy flickering multicolored lights are what Christmas is all about. Plain Jane white lights make Christmas feel empty and sterile.

I'm actually going through the same thing. My Wii and Christmas Tree are a little further away than yours, but its still giving me a problem.

Thanks for sharing, daroga. The other night I had a lot of trouble with the Wii-mote tracking my firing path in Red Steel, and, come to think of it, I did have the built-in lighting array in my entertainment center on (which uses similar white bulbs). Unfortunately, I was unable to put two and two together until I read your post.

Class, and a cold emptiness left by not having the chasing multi-colored lights on the tree that gives everyone a headache.

Ooh! Blinking lights REALLY ought to do fun stuff to the Wiimote ;)

No problem, glad it could be of assistance! :)

Years ago we had blinking lights on our tree. Recently I feel like I'm going to get a seizure when I stair at them!
