How to Pay eBay Shipping With Alternative Payment Methods?

Hey guys,

I was wondering if you could fill me in. In the past when I shipped using Paypal's Shipping, I always had the option of using alternative payment methods (instead of using my available Paypal balance). Lately, when I go to click the "More Funding Options" the only option that appears is to pay with Paypal funds.

Have any of you encountered this recently? Do you know why it's changed or how to get around it? I like to use my rewards cards to earn points since I ship so much any way, but using my Paypal funds just decreases the amount in my account and ticks me off. Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance!

I will check that out next time I go to ship something, but it wouldn't surprise me. Paypal is much safer just taking the funds that you already have in your account rather then letting you print postage using money that will be transferred from a bank account. In the case of credit / debit cards, paypal has to pay visa / mastercard / amex and so on a % fee every time someone uses a card through paypal, so they are losing money on that as well. Even if it is like 1-2% it adds up when you are talking millions of dollars in postage. What you could do is just make sure your paypal balance is $0, transfer the money to your bank account then go to print the postage and it will have to have the option to use a CC / bank acct. Hope this helps!

elchbulle,

I realize the reason that in theory they wouldn't want you to use Debit/Credit card due to fees but that's the same with any store that accept paypal/debit cards any how. If they're going to take away the option then why even have a link that says "More Funding Options".

Also, that's a good idea about trying it with a Zero Paypal balance, but surprisingly it still didn't work. I tried it on my account and it just asked me to add a credit card. When I went to add one, it told me that card was already on file and wouldn't let me use any that were on file. It just sucks because I ship hundreds of dollars worth of stuff a week and I'd like to get some points for it. True, I could pay for it in person at the post office, but that defeats the purpose of printing it at home, not to mention delivery confirmation costs a lot more there.

Oh well. I appreciate your insight!

That is strange, I do the same thing in regards to shipping pretty large volume through paypal, and I know for a fact I've paid with my bank account before, so I assume I could use a card if I wanted to. Maybe call paypal and ask them if there is something you are missing or if they can verify that it's not possible. I'm somewhat interested at this point as well =)
