How to ship strategy guides

I got some strategy guides to ship & parcel post costs $9+ for a 2 lb package. This makes selling the guide not even worth the trouble. Can someone tell me a better way to ship guides. Can you use Media Mail or will they possibly reject it? Do you use a different method for international shipping?

Why would they reject books? Yes there is a chance your package being inspect if you use media mail
 
It might get inspected, but it's not a strike against you as it's a book. Also, from what I understand, they can't reject it, but if you get two or three strikes against you (can't remember which), they'll bill you the extra cost. Media mail is usually the cheaper option with heavy objects like books, but if you have a light paperback, first class might be a few cents cheaper (around the
 
For a single guide or 2 thinner guides, I use Priority Mail Flat Rate Envelope and write do not bend on the envelope. $4.75 with free delivery confirmation if you use Paypal shipping or print from Click N Ship
 
#5 bubble mailer with two pieces of cardboard, one on top and one on bottom.

Ship it media mail with "DO NOT BEND" written on front and back of the bubble mailer.

I just started using this and have even used it for a thicker guide but tape the closing.
Great price for weight and you gain the speed, many times for less than media mail!
 
Can you use the flat rate envelope for mailing outside the United States or do you need a different International Flat Rate Envelope? I ask because on USPS.com when I choose Canada it gives that name instead of just Flat Rate Envelope. Edit: The Flat Rate Envelope I have in my hands says domestic use only.
 
Just be careful... "Do Not Bend" tends to mean "Challenge me" with the USPS.. at least in my area.. they folded some 8 x 11 photo's i ordered in half to fit it in the mailbox, and i've had similar experiences with other packages

Make sure the cardboard covers the entire guide or all the corners will get bent/pushed in.

Yup. Had a USPS Guy bend a Bioshock 2 HC guide to fit it into a mail box. I kid you not.

I had them playing hackey sack with my copy of Demon's Souls I sent to someone in MA last year. fuckin' thing took two weeks or more going first class mail to make it to somewhere near Boston, while a second package made it all the way to TN before that one did.:whistle2:#

Then there was the one that went to VA, but took the scenic route by going to NC/SC before being carried by Pony/(Snail) Express back to VA. That one WAS sent Media though.

Yeah, that's been my experience as well.

I always use a stiff cardboard backing for rarer/more valuable guides. I sandwich them between two pieces of stiff cardboard for really rare/valuable guides.

i agree, i write be careful
they see the words DO NOT and i think they take them as a challenge
